Well I never thought i'd see the day when they could afford to sign players we can only dream of.
Will you be wanting my season ticket renewal next season Mr McCawber ...... sorry I meant McCabe.
Thanks for the embarrasment

Sky ensures the Blackpools of this world can afford such luxuries whilst we feed on scraps & Leeds rejects.

I've been a fan of McCabe and I've defended him recently but patience is now wearing thin.

Last year, same thing: Spurs recall Walker hours before deadline.

This year, two defenders on 'season long' loans: the shite one we can't get shut of, the one who has been the only shining light in a horror show for the back five all season? Recalled at the last.

What is Birch employed to do? Why is that clause in the Bartley deal just like the Walker one? Why do we continually get shafted by other clubs?

I've been pretty confident of staying up despite our crap season so far. For the first time, I'm now worried ...

Wigan? Barnsley? Reading? Bradford?

Any fecker in the Prem has multiples more income than we do. Nothing new here.

Wednesday have made far more signings than us. Could well be a Sheffield derby again next year, in league 1 not the championship.

we are 2/1 to go down, that looks quite generous if we don't get a decent loan signing in soon.

All true but I don't understand the Blackpool comparison. There have been plenty of minnows suckling on the giant Premier League tit while we've been in the poor house. Nothing new whatsoever.

i think it is just the fact they are the shitty run-down seaside town done good that riles people. Good luck to em i say, they've had a chance and taken it

Whats the odds on Irvine being sacked by the end of the season, put your money on that instead

Because all but a few seasons ago Blackpool were where we are and and vice versa.
We used to have Beattie in our team but now Blackpool have him. We can't get Reid on loan as he has gone to Blackpool.
Blackpool is where you go to build sandcastles and have your chips nicked off you by seagulls.
How the FUCK has it been allowed to happen that we are now behind Blackpool in the queue for players.
This club I love is being turned into a fucking laughing stock. We are a joke of a club and we had the chance to be a top ten premier league club on a permanent basis.
We are a long way off from being as big as Blackpool in the football world.
You talk about Minnows ..... we aspire to be a fucking Minnow !!!

Hang on, you'd "got your club back" after a 2-2 home draw against 10 men recently, has it buggered off again??

Well isn't that where we should be looking for inspiration then?

Playing football in the right way, no fear, not spending big with a big named manager who spunks money, but getting the right blend of players in who want to play football.

Lets be fair, when Blackpool scooped Charlie Adam, nobody wanted him, sure we were rumoured to want him, but Rangers didn't get the best out of him by leaving him on the wing so let him go for 500k.

Blackpool got lucky in many ways, but you've got to take your hat off to them for doing what they've done in recent years.

Don't get mad about it, just get inspired that its not about the big transfers and wage budgets.

huzzah.. someone has finally figured it out.. you don't need to spend big money.. you just have to buy decent players at cheap prices.. something we are historically pathetic at.. so you 'can' be a premiership outfit if you get good players and a good system and inspired management.. we aren't dreaming at all in these aspirations

>Charlie Adam, nobody wanted him
we were looking at him.. someone wouldn't stump up the cash.. eh Kev??

Its fair to say that we lost our way, looking for PL loanees and expensive wingers, strikers etc, when if we looked in the right places there were players.

As for Charlie Adam, I remember we were "linked" with him, but (a) Did we ever look at him properly (b) did the manager at that time want him/ did he fit in with our plans (c) was the money available.

Just to think, Ian Holloway was available when we employed Blackwell......

The really joke is that anyone thought we'd be getting Reid back at all. People on here were talking as if it were a done deal last week, laughable.

Not exactly true, he was still with Leicester when Blackwell replaced Robson but would have been available in the Summer. Having said that, nobody wanted to touch Holloway with a bargepole 2 years ago and that's why he spent a year on the sidelines. Luckily for him, he spent that time travelling around, watching football training methods etc and had a re-think of his whole footballing philosophy and the rest is history.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks, they've lost 6 of the last 7 and I'm not sure BT is the right kind of signing for them. If he hits the ground running they may get away with it but if he doesn't, I can see him causing a few problems there.

I believe from a friend of a friend that he was joining us as late as last Saturday, Blackpool panicked a bit when clubs stepped up the bids for Adam.

He needs to start for them like he did at Stoke. If he plays like he did when he finished with them, or as he did in Scotland, they're in trouble.

I can understand we were in for him, but he was always going to get snapped up. there were loads of posts along the lines of "Britton out, Reid in. Great bit of business" as if they were born yesterday and haven't ever seen us stagger through a window before.

Yep. Holloway plays with a front three and BT will only be interested in playing the No.1 role down the middle. That means DJ Campbell moving out wide which my mates say is when he struggles. I also can't see BT putting in the effort Holloway's players do and as we know from his time with us, when he's not scoring, he doesn't add much else (yes, you all know who you are !). I'm just not convinced he'll fit into their style and considering they've also brought two other strikers in and have Reid to fit in somewhere, as I say, trouble ahead if he doesn't hit the ground running.

That's it though, there weren't loads of clubs in for him. As I say, I've been told that he was ours up until Blackpool's late interest.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. I guess me thinking we had no hope in hell of getting him isn't correct, just because we didn't end up getting him. I just don't understand how fans, United fans in particular can be so euphoric and triumphant over something that hasn't happened yet.

It was the same with O'Driscoll. There were pages and pages of posts about how rosey everything was, so I posted "Imagine the crushing futility and despair on here when we inevitably don't get him" and lo and behold.

Again, I'm not claiming to have been correct, just because we didn't get him doesn't mean it was inevitable we never would.
