  2. Boro would go second in Championship with victory

  4. Black Cats four points outside play-offs in 12th
  5. Get involved #bbcefl"
Ive heard of games being 6 pointers but...........:eek:UTB

I was listening to BBC Radio Stoke when we played them.

The old fart commentating spent the entirety after his substitution calling Osborn Doyle, despite one being right footed and the other one left.

I've evaded paying the TV Licence for 7 years

You don't feel that this has contributed to the declining standards of the BBC then through lowered income ?

It costs 44p per day for a BBC licence.

This also pays for Radio Sheffield sports, five live and more.

Yet people seem happy to shell out far more for Sky/Netflix/Disney and all the free adverts.

Shame I say.

Ask someone who lives in the USA or similar, most would give their right arm for a service like the BBC.

The BBC is a national treasure like the NHS.

No, plenty of other channels manage to produce better content without a model that involves freeloading from the general public.

Cool...I currently don't watch the BBC and I get to pay nothing. Seems like a better deal

This also pays for Radio Sheffield sports, five live and more.

What an unfortunate waste.

I don't watch any of those.

I beg to differ, if you tried to impose a TV tax on the Americans, you'd have a second Boston Tea Party on your hands.

It's a national broadcaster. Russia, China and North Korea have those as well.

You think that's bad, on Sky the other night, the commentator spent the second half calling Osborn, Lowe and Lowe, Osborn. That's despite one being, you know...and the other being, you know...

Shit, unobservant commentators come in all shapes and sizes.

He also called us Sheffield throughout and when Stoke scored he said 'And Stoke take the lead'

Always fucks me off immensely when it's decided that we absolutely must have Lineker, Shearer and the rest of the gormless gaggle of free loading twats all simply having to travel away to the world cups and Euros, staying in top hotels no doubt and being treated very very well, and paid a lot of money to commentate on the games and come up with nothing insightful that the average fan couldn't already see for themselves. All paid for no doubt by the BBC fee payers. Obviously they couldn't possibly stay in the UK and commentate from London could they...nah they have to be there swanning it up and having a nice little jolly up. And...who in all that his holy, thought Gary Lineker was worth nearly £2m a year a few years ago for doing MOTD....feckin hell no wonder the BBC is fucked and getting worse. Personally I object to paying anything to the BBC. Set of free loading wankers.

BBC being advert free is not really true either. It is in this country but watched from abroad it’s full of adverts. They sell content like any other commercial provider- I don’t see why they are any different any more

Yeah, that’s because they don’t pay the licence fee abroad. I’d have thought that was fairly obvious, but apparently not.

I think the comparison between the NHS and the BBC is an interesting one though. They’re both laudable ideas and should be the envy of the world, but they’re both run so incredibly poorly that they’re money pits that offer ever-diminishing levels of service to those who pay for their existence.

Missing my point. Of course it’s because they don’t pay a licence fee abroad. My point is they are a full blooded commercial entity like any other, not some charitable body for altruistic public goo, so should stand on their own two feet like any other and not be propped up by the public.

They’re not, though. BBC Studios and BBC Global News Limited are separately-operated commercial entities.

Having worked for the BBC I’m only too aware of their shortcomings, but let’s at least be accurate in how we’re slagging them off. It’s not like there’s a dearth of opportunity for legitimate criticism.

There's a good enough story floating around today tbf.

Not slagging them off. Just saying I don’t understand why they can’t stand on their own feet without subsidy in this day and age. To claim they’re not a commercial entity already is clearly nonsense but you know far more than me.

In all honesty, yes I do, because I was party to the fair trading rules that the BBC had to follow when dealing with third parties, including their commercial subsidiaries.

That argument about whether they could stand on their own two feet without subsidy is a separate one, and doesn’t make the public arm of the BBC a commercial entity, whether you like it or not.

I'd subscribe to BBC films and dramas and possibly some radio shows, but I'd rather evade the state propaganda shows which I resent being forced to pay for. Britbox is a good alternative. I also resent the ridiculous salaries a lot of the 'stars' are on. Largely for shows I have zero interest in.

The NHS has been deliberately hollowed our and destroyed by the worst elements in society (often promoted by the BBC) and it's absolutely essential it is saved and returned to its founding principles. I see no comparison.

I live in the USA and I certainly would not give any appendage for a service kike the BBC. You don't have to pay for Disney+, or Netflix etc and won't get fined if you don't. As for a National treasure, its the people who make the programs that make it good and they could do just as good a job by using advertising money. ITV and Sky produce damn good shows. Just cause the Beeb have been around for a hundred years, slight exageration, doesn't give them the right to not move into the 21st century and stop livong off their past glories. Time, past time, toend the tv license ffs.
