Baxter - Tests positive for banned substance

I'm always reminded of the Captain Pugwash rumours which (rumour has it) were started deliberately to see if they'd take off. They did and an urban myth was born, without a trace of truth or evidence.

Fairy Nuff.

I wasn't aware of the statements about him being ill. Have they been made? If so that is an about turn as I think his name was mentioned publicly by Clough as a possible for the second leg. Of course so was the Beard's so this could all be fun and games.

At the moment it is all speculation.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

On a practical note though how would the information leak? These are private medical and professional matters. Details known to a handful of people (I'd like to think).
I'd have to go through the audioboos but that is what Clough said after the first leg (could have been a Giddings interview I heard in the car).

I'm not sure he was asked or said anything after the second leg about Baxter but there again he was too busy having a go at Buchan about him not asking about John Brayford.

I don't know the full testing process but they test after games and can call on players at home. If they find something positive, they would have to inform the club. I imagine this then becomes gossip and then someone inside the club mentions it to someone outside the club and hey presto it's on Twitter. I don't know if the FA can insist someone doesn't play before a disciplinary hearing. If he was training, players would be asking "why aren't you in the squad". If he was told to stay away, people would be asking "what's up with Baxter". If he was ill, surely someone would have said "what's up with him". It's the wrong time of year for Beattie Flu.

The reason I'm concerned is the person who was specific about what was found in the sample is someone I believe is ITK on Mad.

This is a general comment / question, but am I the only one that just assumes there'll be tons of footballers on cocaine? It's all part of the trendy, high flying lifestyle a lot of them like to portray. Same with bankers and other members of society's "elite" classes.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry dabbles these days. The stuff is bloody everywhere, making egos throb across the land, across age groups and across social classes.

Listened back to the Andy Giddings interview and Clough did say it was a bug, so maybe it's a simple as that.

Many professions have random drug tests , I know my lads are in the RAF ,and there are severe repercussions . I don't know if football is the same but I would have thought so. If the rumours are right he has been very stupid at an important time. Personally Im not really bothered about footballers private lives , I just see the football and he has let us down badly on the pitch this season. I think it should be Utds job to punish him if they are non enhancing drugs ,but the FA and the media wank themselves off at stuff like this ,look at Paddy. I hope he hasn't done anything wrong as his career is just nosediving and careering out of control. Fingers crossed.

Heard he failed a drugs test off an ex-player (from this season) so there does seem to be truth to this rumour

I know for a fact that an ex United player, now playing non league is a coke head, how? I've seen him take it and heard him ordering it. Not while at United though I have to say.

I say again for emphasis that this is a general assumption, I'm not saying that this is what Jose has been up to, but it would neither surprise me, or really bother me, if that's what some of our players got up to in their own time, as long as they don't harm anyone else while they're on it. Plenty will find drugs as something to spend their excess cash on once they have all the cars, houses and clothes they want.

Of course this behaviour is rife amongst footballers who live in an unreal world. I only last week mentioned on a thread that there are 140 ex professional footballers serving time at present and 120 of them are banged up on drug offences.

My comment on that was how nonsensical it is to hold footballers up as "role models" which so many of them will never ever be. That false "value" did for Ched though once the bandwagon got going.

If Jose has been so stupid to indulge Surely the club will context it according to what goes on in society and football in general where recreational drug usage is rife.

OK, Soz shorehamview
Easy association to make.
Don't I feel stupid now
Don't worry, I get plenty of Twitter alerts because of this clown. Derek French can't get it through his head that there just might be two people with similar user names. But it's definitely not me. I rarely post on there.

Seem to think I have read on 1 of the forums someone saying baxter and bash won't be here next
season. Thought it was a load of rubbish but perhaps not, unfortunately can't find the post

Just found it on bm under wishlist , but how come bashams played if true

I thought the same, really hope it isn't true in either case, for their sakes more than anything.

Also, regarding Basham... Hasn't his Wife/Girlfriend had their first child this season? Doesn't strike me as the type to indulge in such controversial situations.

Are you sure you're not thinking of Murphy?

Good to get insight but worrying that MB is confiding in people outside of the club.

If it is true than another player who had loads of potential when breaking into the game who sadly lost his way in the game.

Basham's kid was born a couple of months before Murphy's if I remember correctly.

Yep Clough used it as a reason for his unsure performances early in the season.

I wonder what's gone on with Basham if we're not going to see him again. The interview he gave after Swindon made it seem he was quite committed here and Clough seems to rate him as one of the first names on the teamsheet.
