I've always said that ours is the fiercest inner city rivalry in England. Seriously what else comes close? Villa v Brum maybe? .
Interesting that so many Wednesday fans have watched him manage in the Kaiserslautern derby. They really are cultured fans aren't they.
Rivalry is usually bigger when you have 2 clubs of similiar stature who have similiar support, similiar histories etc.
The thing that makes the Sheffield rivalry special is that neither club has been able to dominate the other for any period.
This is different to Birmingham.
Villa have always been the much bigger club. The last time Birmingham City has bigger support was in 1975. Also there are 3 clubs in Birmingham so surely that would water down the AV- BC rivalry. Where do West Brom come into it?
In Manchester the red half have been so superior to the blue half for so long
That many Man Utd fans now say their biggest rivalry and most hostile match is Manchester United versus Liverpool.
I think the problem with the really big clubs is that they have non local admirers attending matches not diehard supporters. Also you get football tourists attending those games. So it’s much more difficult to get the hostility you find in the Steel City derbies.
I think they talking about their 1990s meander into Europe. They lost.Interesting that so many Wednesday fans have watched him manage in the Kaiserslautern derby. They really are cultured fans aren't they.
Also find it quite funny that they're all judging his ability as a manager with statements like 'has managed in front of 74k'. It seems attendances ARE important again after all.
They're fucking mental.
True, good points. If his quite telling how neither Sheffield side stays on top for long, something I tried repeatedly reminding Pigs about during our league 1 excile. Of course they were having none of it. Also a reason why us Blades should stay grounded.
Regarding West Brom by the way, I thougt they're main rivalry is with Wolves?
as can Carlisle united v Hartlepools but thats hardly a local derbyChesterfield v Mansfield can be quite tasty![]()
Piping the GCB at the start of the game, whilst being loud and impressive to hear, it can be a little staged some times. But you can always tell at the end of the GCB as to how the crowd is going to be with the roar after the 'Oooo' of the GCB.
That would be great! But not going to happenI just hope to God that Kop remains standing after the big "Oooo"
It's not that big of an ask to stand for 90 minutes for the biggest game of the season.
That would be great! But not going to happen

Trust me if that were the case the old fella in front of us would’ve been banned a long time agoNot in an era where you can get banned for farting the wrong way.

a good read until I got to this........
“What I will say about the Wednesday fans that day is just how terrific they were to Mel. As he walked round Wembley, they all stood and applauded. It must have been a very poignant moment for Mel and his family.”
brought a tear to my eye first and then my thoughts passed to what the S6 scroats wanted to do with those stickers at Friday's game.
Is it just a case of society has got worse?
