After years of reading this forum, finally felt my time is up and needed to post. I’m in my 30s but have never felt younger when it comes to supporting this club. I wake up in the morning and google ‘Sheffield United”. I watch re-runs of Blades games on YouTube when I feel slightly down. We’ve been in a higher league in the time I’ve been supporting, however nothing comes close to this.
We have a rag tag bunch of personalities. A future star in goal, no nonsense-make-great-decisions defenders in Egan and O’Connell. Wing backs that bring so much energy and skill. Norwood runs the operation, Fleck dives it and Duffy orchestrates. McGoldrick brings style and class and Billy makes you feel fortunate that he grew up following our team.
But the one man that personifies it all is Basham. A one man wrecking mission that’s one part genius, one part octopus, final part disaster waiting-to-happen and 100% Sheffield United. He’s not perfect, we’re not perfect but Jesus, he’s a huge part of our identity.
Wilder will deservedly be remembered for generations but it’s folk like Bash that separate us from the footballing elite, and reminds us of what football is really about.
