As touched on by a number of people above, Basham is one of the few remaining of a dying breed and I think we would be fortunate to see many more, if any, come through the doors at Bramall Lane.
From the minute he came into the club, he understood the club and it's fanbase... he was proud to represent the club and is one of the few to hold old fashioned values, whilst conducting himself as a fine modern professional at the same time.
You don't get many players in modern football who you can call upon to play in any position, at any given point of a game. Not only would he do it, but he would do it to the best of his ability and leave everything out on the pitch.
I am devestated for his injury, but if there is any saving grace and it isn't much of one considering the circumstances... but at least he didn't have to endure some of the performances on the pitch during the second half of the season, because he wouldn't have liked it. The likes of Souza, Slimane and co aren't fit to lace his boots.... they don't hold the values, the character and the passion that he does. Basham doesn't know defeat and he doesn't roll over.......
June see him 10 years a blade and with that comes another dying breed... I don't think we will see many more blades (if any) at the club for that period of time. He may well be the last testimonial that we see at the club.... perhaps a fitting one would be an unorthodox joint testimonial with his good friend Billy Sharp. Let them both Captain and choose their own XI's and make it a fantastic, sell out day at BDTBL... one that two legends will remember and get the credit they deserve.
Sad day for the club! Cheers Bash!
