It is all foreign manager based, you had the possession passing based football of Barca under Pep Guardiola that became the blueprint for success based on quality players and results. The downside to this is parts of it then flow down the Premier League, I agree with you the 6 yard box stuff is dangerous at the best of times.Who started this trend of 6-yard box twatting about? And why? I recall Arsenal struggling with it 2-3 years ago. Sooner that football comes up with another trend, like maybe driving at defenders, through balls and an entertaining style, the better.
Next time I see Olsen pass it a few feet to the right back who passes it to the left back, who panics with the opposition bearing down on us, I am going to boo very very loudly.
It becomes too predictable too when there is only the option out is hoofing it up field. We should always have 2 short to mid passing options available with ultimately the hoofing as an emergency. We should have players that are positionally aware thinking 3 or 4 plays ahead, if they aren't getting the ball they should be thinking of their next move to be either available for the short pass or pulling a defender out of the way by making a run etc.
The main downside is this is Sheff United the red and white wizards and all that so panic at the back hoof it up front and smash it into the box will just be fine. We haven't had a brick outhouse that can hold up the ball or manage to win a header for a while in a 4-4-2 big striker little striker. I still will be a blade after this side has gone and we are still complaining about the current. It's the blades way
