Banging the ball upfield....

Who started this trend of 6-yard box twatting about? And why? I recall Arsenal struggling with it 2-3 years ago. Sooner that football comes up with another trend, like maybe driving at defenders, through balls and an entertaining style, the better.

Next time I see Olsen pass it a few feet to the right back who passes it to the left back, who panics with the opposition bearing down on us, I am going to boo very very loudly.
It is all foreign manager based, you had the possession passing based football of Barca under Pep Guardiola that became the blueprint for success based on quality players and results. The downside to this is parts of it then flow down the Premier League, I agree with you the 6 yard box stuff is dangerous at the best of times.

It becomes too predictable too when there is only the option out is hoofing it up field. We should always have 2 short to mid passing options available with ultimately the hoofing as an emergency. We should have players that are positionally aware thinking 3 or 4 plays ahead, if they aren't getting the ball they should be thinking of their next move to be either available for the short pass or pulling a defender out of the way by making a run etc.

The main downside is this is Sheff United the red and white wizards and all that so panic at the back hoof it up front and smash it into the box will just be fine. We haven't had a brick outhouse that can hold up the ball or manage to win a header for a while in a 4-4-2 big striker little striker. I still will be a blade after this side has gone and we are still complaining about the current. It's the blades way

I think we need to mix it up a bit, we’re so predictable and play the short pass even when the opposition are pressing high up the pitch in anticipation.
I appreciate it’s about ball retention and not just relying on winning the second ball from the keepers kick, but I do think it’s telling that a lot of our chances are created when Stevens or Baldock end up passing it back to Olsen and he, in desperation just ’boots it’ up field and all of a sudden we find ourselves through on goal ! 🤣

It is like a disease that has affected every level of the game, from Champions League football to under 10s.

Everyone is trying to play out from the back at all times, ignoring pressing or their own inability to pass and dribble. outside the best teams, for every 3 times you get out of your own half, the opposition take it off you, or you give it to them, twice.

I was in nets Saturday and 3 times in the 1st 15 mins the defence lost the ball just outside the area. I said at half time “if you get in trouble, just get rid. Guardiola won’t start crying”.

in the professional game, the idiocy of us trying it against WBA was there for all to see.

Nothing wrong with playing out from the back. Just mix it up a bit, and recognise the limits of your own competence.

I propose we re-sign Leon.
He could take advantage of a trebuchet like punt.
