Bad subs

Substitutions tonight were stupid.

Wilder got it wrong and gifted the game to Derby.

I can understand Clarke coming on to hold the ball up front and win flick ons in attack. But we weren’t playing up front or in attack.

As for Washington...he’s a very fast runner. But he’d be better chasing an electric hare than a ball I think. The lads chosen the wrong vocation. Get him on the dog track down at Owlerton and he’d be very impressive I can tell you!

If we'd finished the match with the same eleven that started it I'm pretty sure it would have finished 1-1.

Nope, not in a million years.

I can see the logic in bringing Coutts on the sure up the midfield (both Fleck and Norwaood were shattered) but the problem is that he plays in the deep lying role and the other two were too tired to get forward. We just dropped deeper and deeper and the forwards had to play as midfielders.
Geyore wi this “tired” bollocks will yer? FFS! Every time summat goes wrong we wheel out the “tired” excuse. They’ve just had 2 weeks off! What are they going to be like next Saturday then after 3 games in a week? Might as well give Wigan the 3 points now then and let them have another rest?

We got it AWFULLY tactically wrong second half. That’s all.

They were certainly a lot fitter team than us. Fleck (who is never good after a break and Norwood who seems to get shattered every game were out on their feet) I was impressed with how Lampard went about changing it to counter us. Pressing certain players and trying to pull the back 3 out of position.

Awful first five minutes, awful second half why do we start so slow and lethargic ? At least first half we got into the game and just about had the best of it but then come out sloppy again second half and gift control to Derby. Most of the midfield looked to be blowing out of their arses in the second half, seems to be a regular occurrence too are we working them too hard in training ?
Where is the replacement for Brooks who could have been on for Duffy who was poor today ? Still this is what you are up against when you continue to sell and bring in cheap replacements. No way we will stop at the top of the league the best we can hope for is finishing above the pigs and maybe nicking a play off spot. We really must do better than this if we want to mount a serious challenge and we must bring in a Duffy alternative and a couple of decent strikers in January to have any chance. Very disappointed tonight, we have pissed a chance away to put a bit of daylight between us and the rest.

Wilder has been getting it wrong more often than he gets it right during games for a while now and it's concerning. It's costing us points on a regular basis.

But the main problem today wasn't the subs. It was the decision to stop trying to win.

Bad subs, we all know better than Chris. Thought at the time tho 2 early these changes, Billy just needed the right ball into the box as Goodman said. With out Billy & duffs it was going 2 get difficult. As I said think Chris & Alan know more than us tho. Oh 4 some cash in Jan, but think that's a long shot.

Johnson should come on ahead of Washington - even up front.

Absolutely pathetic that Woodburn can't get in the squad. Send him fucking back - and learn a lesson from it.

We need to replace Brooks - it's criminal that we didn't. We need a different attacking option.

And maybe we should have one of the staff sat in the stands, watching the game calmly with a good view, and let him suggest substitutions and changes during games. Because Wilder's success rate with in game changes is becoming unacceptable.

Why take Duffy off?

He was bossing it. Lampards face when he came off was one of relief.
The subs didn't cost us the game we had lost our way straight from kick off.( 2ND half ) the changes. We're made to try and pick it up again, it didn't work but at least Wilder tried to wrestle back control.
We often lose our way after halftime something Wilder will be aware of, he hasn't really found the answer yet but he will I'm sure as it costs us points.
We seem to sit off and allow teams to get at us .Could it be the fitness level is not quite there ?

Woodburn is pissing me off.

Had he not been too fucking scared, weak and useless to get on the bench, we'd have that option we need for games like today. But instead, we have nothing. We have to change our shape.

Cheers Ben.

Wonder if he's back at Liverpool already? He might as well be. Fuck him off and bring in a proper first team player in January.

They’ve had 2 fucking weeks off, if they can’t play 90 minutes of professional football after that then fuck knows. Wilder has baffled me tonight.

This again........every Untied player can easily play 90 minutes a match 3 or 4 times a week.

However they all have GPS monitors in their shirts monitoring their energy levels and movement.
Most of the players are expected to play a high tempo/ high energy game.
Assume CW will say that the facts prove that Duffy isnot able to do such high tempo work for the full 90 minutes.

To solve this mystery maybe Radio Sheffield should ask Wilder why Duffy is regularly subbed.

Not a lot, sat in dugout.

Not thi best moment Mr Wilder?
Difficult to criticise you though but it was bloody strange.

If we’d won it would have been a master stroke.

Wilder himself has said in interviews that when we win a match everything he does receives positive feedback
But when we lose everything he does is classes as a mistake.

It’s only 1 match, you can never judge a team properly using just 1 match.

I watched the game with my own eyes without the need for GPS monitors or anything and could clearly see that Freeman and Stevens were shattered and should’ve been subbed off before both Billy and Duffy. It was Freeman’s fatigue that cost us the result as he took an age to get across, to try and cut the cross out for the winner.

Agree and I did state it is difficult to criticise him, but it was strange.

Agree about the full backs needing to be subbed. About 15 mins into the second half, I was hoping that CW was going to bring off Freeman and Stevens, and possibly Mcgoldrick. I'd have swapped them for Stearman, with Bash going on the right (id have played him right back not wing back), Johnson on for Stevens (asked him to get on the front foot and attack whenever he could), and Washington or Coutts on for Goldie. I definately didn't see Sharp and Duffy coming off.

Wilder wins us many games when he gets it right. But I think he got it wrong on this occasion. Mind u, the team coming out for the 2nd half and being like chalk a cheese must have baffled him as well, so I think our leader deserves a bit of slack. Let's put it down to one that got away tonight.

Lesson number one is never learned. Don't sub Duffy until we're winning. Or to put it another way we aint going to win from behind if Duffy isn't on the pitch. As for having Washington on the pitch and Billy off it, well, lets not even go there. Today's game was a tactical abortion.

Oh please stop with the fickle BS. We had them by the bollocks and for some reason let them go. It's frustration because we were so much better than them. The 2nd half was tactical and those tactics don't suit us, we do not grind out a point, we don't know how to so don't fucking try it.

I wish you were our manager. You have the answers for all our problems.
