Bad subs

I’ve not read the thread because I’m pissed and pissed off. We don’t have any decent subs to bring on to replace the usual top 3 so no subs we make can ever be bad. Poor squad is more appropriate.

I think we have decent players on the bench but not bring you back into a game players.

Leon gets his head on stuff unlike the rest of the team, Washington is quick and can get in positions others can't but to chuck them on and expect them to get straight in is unrealistic considering the game time they've had.

Chucking them under the bus really.

Johnson or Woodburn for Bash would have maybe been something when Wilder went for the kitchen sink sub, creative and pacey, but Woodburn is nowhere at the moment.

Surprised a few on Twitter are that impressed with Derby, incredibly average despite having such talent in their team.

What the fuck was said at half time?

They had more chances against us than any other team. They have runners and get men forward and break quickly. 2nd half Duffy could not be arsed and they ptessed Norwood. The wing backs did not get forward and Derby controlled it.

For all those lauding the 1st half they still created more than us. Did Carson have a save to make...maybe McGoldrick at the end?

Agreed. Derby have spent a bit but its not the first time I've seen them this season, and I believe that they are a pretty average team. I'd fully expect them to be turned over by WBA and Boro in their next 2 fixtures.

A real opportunity missed tonight. I'm rarely confident of a win away from home, but I was confident that we'd have enough to win today.

This problem of slow starts after half-time is worrying. Around where I sit in the South Stand, we've been saying since last season that it's as if they a cup of cocoa at half-time. These dozy starts are happening week in week out. Perversely, it could be a problem that we're invariably so dominant up to half-time, that we end up just carrying on doing the same things. The opposition, though, is forced to come out with a new game plan, and it takes us a while to get to grips with what they've changed.

As for the subs, this is not one of the gaffer's strong points. Almost without exception, our changes come too late i.e. are delayed a good 10 or 15 minutes after momentum has been ceded to the opposition hen it is very hard to get it back. And, invariably, our substitutions result in us completely losing our shape and our play often becomes a mess.

I'm just so pleased we don't have any fickle fans. That would be awful.

Oh please stop with the fickle BS. We had them by the bollocks and for some reason let them go. It's frustration because we were so much better than them. The 2nd half was tactical and those tactics don't suit us, we do not grind out a point, we don't know how to so don't fucking try it.

I’m sorry mate I have to disagree, I think Leon is done (happens to every player at some point), Washington - I don’t know really. But if Duffy’s off, the lots off with us. IMO we have no replacement striker or No.10.

We don’t have any forwards that will make a chance for themselves and that’s not their fault, when Duffy has a 6/10 game instead of an 8/10 it takes a huge part of our game away. We shouldn’t be that reliant on one player but we are and will continue to be at least until January.

It’s not worth panicking about though as I’d take 4 wins out of every 5 for the rest of the season.

Whereas im just as pleased that we have terrific fans who won't have anything negative said about our beautiful brave boys (and management) - even if they have contrived to shoot themselves in the foot....

Life must be all peachy for some people who can't accept any criticism, even if it is deserved from time to time. If you are late back from the pub one evening and the missus has a go at you, do you tell her she is fickle cos you painted the fence last week? Fkin ridiculous. Still your clearly the Bigger Blade pal so that's what counts (shakes head in bewilderment).

Personally I work on the basis that i will praise people when they do well, and be more critical if they have let themselves down. Try it sometime, it's quite liberating.

Leon does need to show that he's got more about him than hold up sooner rather than later. Still think Washington could be a player but you're right about Duffy really, he's had a bad game tonight, and he's not really been at his best much this season really, but we still look better with him on.

January needs to be Duffy competition. If that's all we get, I'd be fine with it.

We gifted it them, they have talent that will take advantage of shit defending. They didn’t have many clear cut chances at all but it helps to have players who want to shoot, something we seem to be incredibly apprehensive about at times.

Duffy wasn't playing particularly well, with or without the ball. And I understand why you take Sharp rather than McGoldrick off, because McGoldrick is the best forward we have at dropping deep and linking between midfield and attack. It might have been a game for Ben Woodburn to show what he can do but I don't know what's happened to him.

Whilst I agree that Duffy wasn't having his best game, when he is on the pitch we look dangerous & he never hides & is always showing for the ball, we really have no-one like him & think that needs to be addressed asap, he, or a similar type of player is crucial to how we play. Even when he isn't on top form he is always looking to create, but it is the other side of his game, his off the ball defensive work, that lets him down & is I think the reason CW takes him off.

I can see the sense in taking Duffy off as he looked tired, wasn't having the best game and was a bit sloppy. Bringing Coutts on made sense as they had begun to win the midfield battle. I just don't think we have the attacking players in the squad good enough to win games like this. Who are we bringing on? Washington, not scored since February. Clarke, not scored this season. No Woodburn even on the bench. It needs addressing somehow in January. If only we'd tried with Marriott.

Unlike a lot on here (it seems) I thought it was a mistake at the time to take off Duffy.

He wasn't at his best I agree, but he is capable of doing the unexpected and he plays in the hole which basically means that they had to be very wary of him. We took him off and they instantly had that threat disappear, which meant they could then push onto us more. We should have kept him on the pitch, bad game for him or not.

Even they scored with 15 to go, and we had taken off Sharp and Duffy, did anyone really believe that we were gunna make something happen and equalise? No me neither. We were a busted flush then and we hadn't got anyone left on the pitch to create anything against a team that was not going to give us any space until the final whistle. The forward lads didn't have a sniff of any service from our midfield tonight apart from Flecks run which led to our goal.

I think he’s actually been decent this season, but another playmaker is an essential transfer in January no matter where we are in the league. The Coutts for Duffy change just doesn’t work when we need a spark and are chasing a game.

Nope, not in a million years.

I can see the logic in bringing Coutts on the sure up the midfield (both Fleck and Norwaood were shattered) but the problem is that he plays in the deep lying role and the other two were too tired to get forward. We just dropped deeper and deeper and the forwards had to play as midfielders.
