as I said its do able , but we need some luck
others have to be like bournemouth huddersfield and peterborough and get a bit jittery

Then only way we will go up is the autos. Seasons over if we are into the play offs

Bit negative Swiss, my advice to you is stay in bed until May. Grow a beard like JL, some sort of dirty bed hair type protest at our failure to win at Wembley since memories exist.

Borrowed from BM ;)

Hope springs eternal but the gaps were smaller then as against now

"1st March 2011 league table

1 Brighton P31 pts 62
2 Bournemouth P33 pts 58
3 Huddersfield P33 pts 56
4 Peterborough P32 pts 53
5 Southampton P31 pts 52
6 MK Dons P34 pts 52

Southampton went up in 2nd with 92 points !
Wonder if their fans thought they could go up when they were 6 points behind although they did have 2 games in hand but it does show that 92 points could be achievable with a good run !"

You can't even compare us now and Southampton in the table you have posted. It was in Southampton's hands for a start, we need to hope Preston and MK drop 8 more points than us and Swindon drop 6 more.

It ain't impossible, but if we do get automatic it'll be a minor miracle in my opinion.

The four teams above us are all winning, they have room for an odd bad game here and there.
We've put ourselves into a position where every defeat is a cataclysmic disaster.
So no, I don't think we will do it, in fact I think the gap between us and the top two will widen due to their consistency and our stupidity

Mathematically its more than possible, in the real world its very very unlikely.

We should focus our efforts on securing a top-6 spot and the playoffs before anything.

We're 40-1 to win the league, 1-25 to make the Play Offs and 2-1 to be promoted in any fashion. But I can't find our odds of finishing in the top two anywhere.

I tend to trust the bookies to rate our chances objectively, but they don't want to stick their necks out on our auto chances, it seems. Has anyone spotted any odds? Or could they be calculated from the odds that are available?

I'm with Swiss on this. We won't make auto's (although it is possible technically) and we just don't do play offs. Understand the added threat this season, but the glourious feeling (apparently) of winning at Wembley on a hot, sunny day in a play off final is not the Blades Way.

I still have re occuring nightmares of David bloody Hopkins scoring!

all things come to an and , our losing in play offs will one day , maybe in May

just because we have lost doesnt mea its our only option

different manager , squad , ethic , but hey ho
I bet Preston are thinking the same!

Interesting question, United are full of confidence, and we seem to have the ability to win even when not playing that well i.e. Rochdale.

The answer to the question depends upon how much the top teams panic when they lose a game and see others closing in.

Who will bottle it................... MK Dons, Preston and Swindon have in the past couple of seasons, Bristol City? well we may have to wait and see.

The next couple of games will be interesting.

I keep reading on top 6 messageboards City look to be up, not many City fans think that, I most certainly do not.

But, then again, I don't think you will make it, just a tad too much to do for auto, come Play off's though, your recent cup pedigree will stand you in good stead.
.

Agreed - if we were in Bristol City's position not one fan would think we were up. We're probably better coming off the rails than we are trying to hang on to one of the auto spots

Below are the positions of the clubs to be played by the main parties until the end of the season. On paper we have the easiest run in.They all have to play each other so that's 3 guaranteed games where 1 or 2 of them will drop points. Swindon and Preston also have to play Bristol. We have strengthened considerably in Jan, are on a run of form, might get another striker on loan and have just sent a decent player to play against all 3 sides before the end of the season (we'll see if that backfires on us!).

Based on that, put me down for automatic!

Stead plays for Bradford not us:cool:

whats nice about ours is we have a lot of games v mid table sides , in march when they wont have anything to go for, the others average is between sides at the top and sides at the bottom with a lot to play for

I'd venture all the teams in mid table have something to play for in March, they could all achieve the last play off spot.

Or even the last relegation spot if they let things slide.

Me to. Wouldn't mind but we wiped the floor with Palace a few weeks earlier at BDTBL. Tracey watched that all the way, decided it wasn't going in then decided he was wrong!

We did the double and Bassett warned you never beat a team 3 times on the trot

The next poll should be whether Blades think we will make the play offs or not.....

Unless You're Burnley v Blades

Yes, amazing how things can change less than a fortnight. At this rate, Bristol C will top 100 pts. Preston will join them and we'll have more than a few squeaky bum moments as the locals line up to fuck our chances.

It was in our hands. I now believe it isn't.

Flakey , how things change with 3 points for a win after losing a couple of games . The teams behind are now closing in on us , and its now down to how we react , and how much we panic , or not panic , is the big question mark.

Clough and Co , players have now got to show they are focussed , got the balls and bottle to see this through , when times past we fall at the last hurdle.

The playoffs are still in our hands mate, whether we can keep it that way is another matter.

Yeah, Perhaps I should rewrite and include us in the 'bottling it' list.

Particularly as I don't buy the Clough excuse of tired legs, two games a week answer. These are professional footballers/atheletes who are being asked to give 100% committment and energy for 3 hours a week.

God, I remember the days when top class footballers worked all week including Saturday mornings before going off to play for their teams.
