Play with the heart and the resiliance we've shown in the past two games and I don't see why we shouldn't be in the top two come April. Sharp will get all the headlines but our defence performed very well today especially when it was 10 v 11. No team's going to run away with it this year. Another solid performance v Wigan and more of us might start believing.

1. Great transfer window
2. Fans make it loud and hostile every home game

Tick those two boxes then it's not impossible.

2. People in the South Stand think I'm a nutter already. Maybe they are correct. I don't think I can keep it up Ricky. I'm looking for a transfer somewhere more violent.

Not impossible but we have to go Leeds, WBA, Norwich, Villa, Pigsville. I put Pigsville on the list because they are now Champion league contenders again. Hold our own in those games and maybe, just maybe.

Kop?

You would need to headbut a police horse to gain rights of entry tho...

Was the best I've heard the Kop all year - after the Basham red, don't know if everyone only showed up at half time

Leeds have rescued themselves late on in a few games and Norwich have performed miracles in the last few minutes of some of their games.

I know that teams that go up tend to get these late goals when things aren't going well in a particular game, but when teams rely on these last second goals almost every week you have to wonder why they aren't putting their games to bed earlier

We've seen the same at United, especially under Warnock, we'd struggle during the game but the never say die attitude got us numerous last minute goals, but it doesn't happen every week and it doesn't happen continuously.
If you don't nail down the wins before the last minute the chances are you won't win, except for in a freak set of circumstances over a short period of time
Norwich and Leeds both losing today has thrown it all wide open again and also shows that they can be beaten

One thing I have noticed about the SS is that you can't gain easy access to the pitch like you can from the Kop. I used to like a wander down pitch side to "have a word" in my early days, but in the SS I'd be stuffed by a well patrolled wall. Fucking Trump.

Anybodys league this season the top two keep changing all the time, to be honest I am keeping a closer eye on 7th etc than 1 and 2.

We are 6 points clear of 7th and only 4 points of 2nd with a game at Norwich in a couple of weeks . Win that it's down to a point

Pinchy sits on the Kop and by all accounts doesn't stop for 90 minutes!

Don’t think we’ll be challenging top 2 , play off challengers yes .. we’ve still got some tough away days to come .. nothing to fear though so who knows .. get behind the lads and enjoy the ride

It will only take a win at Wigan on New Year's Day for the ice to melt a little bit more.

After posting some absurd things a few days ago about the top 2 auto spots being gone already (with 20 odd games to go) I sense a little thaw of opinion, but understandably, no-one want to pop up yet and say..."eeh! I'm such a negative geezer with no concept of how football actually works".

Before today I thought the play offs would be a big ask, but with this 6 point gap to 7th place, it's looking more hopeful.

if our manager gets this season's squad to 6th or above to me that is equal in comparison with any other Sheffield United manager in history

Don't ever lose sight of the fact that 90 % of the division has stronger squads than us ( on paper at least) even Blackburn have splashed big money on brereton ( who looked toss today )

Weird thing is, we're not that confident of closing a 4 point gap to Norwich, but are worried about Brum etc closing a 6+ point gap on us!

Can’t make my mind up if Derby beating Norwich is a good or bad result for us.

Made me laugh.....because I was thinking exactly the same.
Suppose a draw (sharing just 2 points) would have been the best result.

Opened up a gap between 6th and 7th and reigned in Norwich
Pretty good
Norwich let in goals .They've conceded 10 in last 3 home games . We go there soon with our forwards on fire could be above them in 3 weeks

There's only Leeds and West Brom who have even debatably looked better than us, and even against Leeds it was pretty even. Leeds have looked cracking in other games I've seen them in though.

I struggle to see past those two for the autos but that just means there's less pressure on us lot. Carry on like we have these last two games and I don't see why we can't make a go of it.

Go on. Admit it. You've been reading Owlstalk again, haven't you?

There was Middlesbrough as well, admittedly that was before the Norwood revolution though.

If top 2 is seriously on then we need to show we can go to places like Norwich, West Brom and Leeds and win. The play-offs are very seriously on, however.

Think if we have any serious intentions of the play-offs the last two home games were two that we definitely should have been expecting to win and we have done which is a huge positive sign.

Continuing to take points off those around us will be the difference this year and it will be the same for most teams.

I think the reason for our understandable caution/pessimism regarding the autos is that the higher in the league you go, the more significant any gap is.

In mid-table a 4 point gap is easily surmountable given the teams around you will most likely be in patchy form. At the top it's way more likely that the team just above you is winning consistently, meaning you have to match or better their results over a longer period of time in order to make up the difference, and then maintain that form to keep the spot. It's a much tougher ask.

If one team had to win that game I'd prefer it wasn't Norwich. Only if you'd given up on the autos and were hoping for top six would you prefer a Norwich win
