If we need to replace our player of the season, we'll have to spread our budget incredibly thin.

100k a player tops, I'm sure we can find that sort in League 2...
The fact that Robinson is player of the year deservedly is humbling tbh
He’s average puts the effort in but average
The worst thing we did last summer was neglect a defensive overhaul - budget dictated that - but that was our biggest priority

Our immediate priority is a season in the Championship, and by all accounts (stats/Brum fans) Trusty is a decent Championship defender, so whether or not he is good enough for the Premier League is a bit of a moot point right now. We've struggled and will struggle to recruit for LCB* and we've got two competent ones for the Championship, so I'd worry more about CB and RCB for next season assuming Anel is sold and there's uncertainty around Egan's fitness/contract situation.

* Actually I'd use this coming season to transition to 4 at the back but bearing in mind how difficult Jokanovic found it it would take a brave man to attempt it

Got to ask yourself how he was decent last season at Birmingham yet is rated as shite here?

a) He is playing against much better players than he was at Birmingham and our fan base do not appreciate the gulf in talent
b) Our fan base are the most pessimistic, negative bunch in the whole 92

The PL was too much of a step up for him, but he has shown he can cope with the Champ already, so provided his confidence isn't completely shot to pieces, I would back him as a squad player next season.

That doesn't mean we still don't need to strengthen the defence hugely. Assuming Egan comes back fully fit, and JLT sticks around we still need at least 2 CBs, and 2 new full backs (left and right).

I think given another year in the Championship Trusty could make the grade up to the PL especially if better players are with him too in defence because it needs an entire defensive unit to be up to standard.

I still think there's a decent player in there.

Reads like he's played his last game for us. I'll be surprised if he goes. Not because l think CWAK have seen potential, just that we spent money on him so would be surprised if we try to cash out so quickly.
Some parallels with the Claude Davis signing in 2006?

If a promoted/bottom 6 PL club offers what we paid, I think we'd take it.

He’s a poor defender ( granted surrounded by other ones ) but he has the positional sense of a Battling Top ( one for the older ones ) he absolutely all over the place . Hardly dominant in the air & add to that his distribution is crap and I’m struggling to find any pluses ?? .
I think we only signed him off the back of being a rare left sided central defender , another success by the recruitment dept

Many highs? Someone at the club needs to have a word, he's been awful.
The many highs bit. I am absolutely astonished.

Some people just have no sense about when it might be wise to shut the fuck up.

Absolutely horrific defender and in line with most of our team he seems like a bit of a plank. He certainly plays like it

A 6 foot 3 defender with no presence or defensive instincts whatsoever. He’s so bad defensively that half the time we forget the fact he is absolutely useless on the ball

Stranger things have happened but not very many…

Facing up an opponent, I’ve seen few look as bad. I hope it’s a question of confidence rather than raw ability. That would give him a glimmer.

While we struggle with awful defenders next season, best to start wondering where our 50/60 goals are going to come from to offset the defensive gaffes

Think he’s looked better in the middle of the 3.

He is pacey and decent in the air. In the championship that can put you up fairly high up on good defenders in the league.

Playing alongside Anel who hasn’t tried since September and Robbo who we love but we all understand he’s terrible isn’t an easy gig.

Why would a promoted/bottom 6 PL club sign Trusty after his performances this season? That makes absolutely no sense.

Maybe a top six, promotion chasing Championship team. Stoke appear to be willing to splash the cash this summer and give promotion a go.

Personally I'd keep him. He's a proven, reliable Championship defender, and we'll need those.

I feel sorry for Trusty. He got thrown in the deep end when the team's confidence was already shot. He kept getting played put of position at left back, which teams kept targetting as they realised that Larouci had been a weak link and our left side had no protection in midfield. On top of that there was no guidance or leadership coming from anyone at the back to help him. By the end of the season his confidence was so shot he was scared to tackle in case he made a mistake.

Trusty was poor this season, but so was Egan, so was Anel, so was Larouci, so was Lowe, and so was Bogle defensively. It's almost like looking at three dog turds on your grass and proclaiming one worse than the other. They're all crap at the end of the day. Trusty also wasn't helped by Anel, who threw in the towel and stopped trying as soon as the first goal went in.

I'd rather have Trusty next season than Anel. Trusty's issues were down to lack of confidence, Anel's was down to a bad attitude.

He'll be alright in the Championship next season. He clearly wasn't good enough to make the step up, but he never threw the towel in and did actually try - which is more than I can say about some.

It's weird that some people get so annoyed at players who just aren't good enough for the level they're playing at. Save your ire for the likes of Anel and Souza, who were the first to down tools and blame their team mates for their own shortcomings.

As a back up, probably yes, given the number of players we potentially need.

Unless someone comes in with mega-bucks in the next couple of weeks, signing enough players to keep the retained players out of the squad is nigh on impossible

I’ve not seen that decent player yet, but as you say a year in the championship where he knows the level should help reset him
