The number of players we need to sign suggests it will be very difficult to hit the ground running next season. I think we’ll struggle early on and could find ourselves in a battle at the bottom?

There's a good chance this is going to happen. The signs aren't good. Wilder's clearly got to build a brand new squad from nothing, then come the autumn is we're mired at the bottom end of the table his future will be in doubt. Then a new manager could come in, inheriting a squad he probably doesn't want and then have to start again from scratch. With nothing. All this because of poor planning and not having learnt the lessons of our recent past. All so depressingly predictable.

What we need is a new formation, new tactics and new ideas. We've gone stale.

4-2-3-1 to make us tight and solid again, then move to a 4-1-3-2 once the confidence sets in. Perhaps rotate between home and away. 4-1-3-2 at home, 4-2-3-1 away.

I'm fed up of this crap 3-5-2. It's boring and it doesn't work anymore as everyone knows how to shut it down.

An added bonus of going to a 4 is that we don't need to replace quite so many CB's immediately. In my eyes we've got three that will be perfectly fine at our level next season (working on the assumption that we re-up Egan but sell Anel). Bring in someone experienced if (and only if) we're going to have a serious crack at immediate promotion (a loan would work here if you can't get someone on a 2 year deal tops), and then 1-2 younger players for succession planning, who we wouldn't necessarily want to give many minutes to this season but could plug a gap in a crisis

Don't worry. CWAK have an exciting and innovative new formation which is set to take the Championship by storm...

If we start signing loanees alongside McBurnie and Co, we are going to have to rebuild every year, especially we go up. Get rid of the high earners, bar Blaster and Hamer, build the team around them whilst bringing in the best youngsters we can pluck from league one and championship plus a couple of loanees like McAtee

Supposedly we are now looking for wingers. So would at least be a formation tweak somewhere.

He'll be alright in the Championship next season. He clearly wasn't good enough to make the step up, but he never threw the towel in and did actually try - which is more than I can say about some.

It's weird that some people get so annoyed at players who just aren't good enough for the level they're playing at. Save your ire for the likes of Anel and Souza, who were the first to down tools and blame their team mates for their own shortcomings.
I tend to agree but think we all expected more and thought Trusty would make the step up..

International ✅
On Arsenal's books ✅
Birmingham's POTY ✅
Athletic and 6ft3 build ✅

I think he'll be fine in the Championship.

He was fine in a mid table Birmingham side, so in a team expected to finish higher and have more possession, I'm sure he'll be fine.
No, he’s irredeemably shit and will be playing in the County Senior League next season. Experts have told us so on this very thread. And I’m talking REAL experts, not the pretend sort who have spent a lifetime working in the professional game. Our experts know what they are talking about, we should all listen to them, and it is very unfair for us to think they are clueless wank pigeons.

CWP. The new ITK?

The guy needs a chance, he’s a great guy, he’s intelligent and needs a good year with is in the champ.

Jack Robinson was nowhere near as bad as Trusty this season, especially considering the biggest problem that particular season was the lack of goals scored, the goals conceded was just a regular bottom 4 side compared to an attack that only scored 20 goals all season.

People can try and brush over this all they want, Trusty was one of the worst defenders in a team that conceded 104 goals. He's been absolutely diabolical and 2 respectable performances against liverpool doesn't change that.

Jack Robinson was also being directly compared with Jack O'Connell, whereas trusty is being compared with anyone with the most rudimentary defensive instincts, aerial presence, ability to talk and organise and an ability to do anything on the ball other than punt it down the line like a cheap 1990s division 2 full back.

A chance? He's played 32 games and we've not exactly been demanding he perform like Vidic.

People go on about what he might be like in future, but he's not even a wilder type player because he's utterly horrific on the ball and has the competitive spirit and fight of a wet sponge

It does though, doesn’t it. It demonstrates that there is something in a developing young player to work with.
I think it’s just he isn’t PL level, getting destroyed by elite Wingers happens to championship defenders even the good ones.

We all know he’s not been amazing but he won’t come up against anything like he has done this season next.

Hardest game for him be against Hull winger that’s about as hard as it gets for him. That would have been his easiest game this season.

What like a cheap and limited defender putting in a shift in a cup match where the team just sits in with a low block?

Its basic and again, it was a solid shift but lets not go overboard and say he was putting in jagielka levels of defending. He was alright, in a game where he didn't have to worry about playing an offside trap, players running in behind or showing any sort of quality on the ball. The second game he was playing as a left wing back yet didn't go over the half way line, we'd found the smallest possible job for him to do and for once he didn't look an absolute joker. Wasn't exactly holding it together single handedly for us either, he did nothing that a defender from the arse end of the championship would occasionally be capable of and 32 games is more than enough opportunity to occasionally do something respectable.

Sorry but thats what I've seen, I think he's absolutely atrocious. If birmingham offered half a million I'd rip their arm off

People on here are also disrespecting the championship by looking at it through a lens of a team that had MGW and/or Illiman for two years.

You really think a cavalier attitude to next season of 'ah, he'll be alright for that league' is what this club needs right now? It needs standards and a purposeful building of a team because the disgraceful lack of due diligence and planning last summer led to the biggest and most drawn out public humiliation in this clubs modern history.

Think people get annoyed mate, When we throw 5 mill down the shitter on a bag of shite!!

It's not cavalier to expect him to repeat at least his performance 22/23 season where he was the best player for a team in that league.

For example he was rated 6.92 average on whoscored in a lower ranked team where Sander was 6.95 and iliman 7.24 with Tommy Doyle who most would have killed for being 6.78 rated and in a team that won most weeks.

He clearly has got enough ability to perform in the championship based of past performances, there's definitely a championship level player in there at the least.
I think he's been poor this year and unless he improves dramatically would be the first out the door if we went up but some of these posts are flippant beyond belief

Player of the season for a team near the bottom, hasn't finished above 17th for about 5 years and all he was doing was clearing the ball in a team playing with a low block?

Regardless of any interpretations about that particular season, its undeniable fact that this is a player who's absolutely nowhere near as good as Jack Robinson, a player who I'm more than happy to go with next season but lets not pretend he's maldini either. 104 goals and he's one of our worst defenders, have people actually been watching these matches and not seen the basics that he's pathetically failed at, basics that Jack Robinson has done with ease compared to this lump.

Defensively, he's as bad as anything I've seen. Someone called him intelligent earlier which blew me away because Auston Trusty is the defensive equivalent of Oli Burke.
Don't care about his personality off the pitch, when he's in a red n white shirt he plays like there is absolutely nothing between the ears.

I'll die on this hill, he is fucking wank
