Worth remembering that in the first 10 minutes before the red we were pressing well from the front and in midfield cutting off passing lanes then unleashing Burke to pressure the keeper after we’d forced the ball back to him and we nearly caught them out several times with this I think over the course of 90 mins we’d have gotten some joy out of this alone had we been allowed to continue with 11.

whos scoring for us to win? That would require attacking and it’s evident that we dont do that at the moment.

Honestly, doesnt even deserve an answer. But context. We had 10 men. So yes your correct certainly didn’t have much of one tonight. In order to attack we would have had to had chuck caution to the wind and have gone on to take an absolute dicking. As for the wolves game, poor defending cost us. Nothing to do with strikers need to change the midfield around, and stop shit crosses into crowded boxes.

absolutely agree midfield is where the improvement needs to come not our strikers. We create nothing so we will score nothing. Strikers have no service. Predictable + basic style of football. You can be cautious with 10 men without hitting long balls and being wasteful in possession. Very poor today and to suggest otherwise is laughable

To add, the trend of over playing out wide when level and then going far to direct when chasing a game is something I have noticed. 2nd game of 38 far to early to worry. But not to early to improve.

If I was the club I would be asking for video images showing they checked Watkins was onside for the red card... Just like they showed live for our penalty where they checked every single aspect of all build up to it

we are playing well in good spells & there are positives to take out of both games. but for God sake i wish utd could kill off a game. its almost every week we fluff golden chances

Honestly no need for over reactions tonight, with 11 men we win that game, missing the penalty was the nail in the coffin. We really need a creative spark, the only flair we have in the team is out injured, which results in us relying on scoring from crosses and we all know how poor we have been at that. We have no plan b without a Duffy/Freeman type player. If moose wasn’t injured we should be in for Buendia rather than a striker.

Looking back at the game I think that basham should have scored but went down when he felt a touch

Thanks Roy,

As the season progresses You will see Villa take up Their rightful bottom three position...Bye bye Villa

let’s remember they shouldn’t be in this league this season so I’m sure justice will eventually be delivered this season

I've been pondering over my thoughts and to be honest, avoiding the overall whirlwind of the initial reaction and any hysteria that might have brought about.

I'll start by saying, it's really hard to read too much into that, or how we're shaping up for the season, on the basis of that game.

Now, in true forum fashion, I'm going to fully contradict that by reading loads into everything. Humour me.

First of 11 v 11, we get something from that. Villa were poor, but equally, we were solid. I'm full of admiration for how well we defended for so long. I posted a few times in the last couple of days that I just wanted us to be 'at it', Wilder's phrase. We were, and I believe, that tempo and organisation with 11 and we get something.

First point, IMO, not a sending off - Ramsdale is getting there. Shit decision, ruins the rest of the game.

Second point, good penalty save, poorish penalty. Never looked confident of scoring.

Our defending and solidarity, fantastic. Baldock, O'Connell, Berge, Basham, Ampadu, Enda, Fleck, Lunny all well drilled and at it. No time, energy or outlet to enable them to play enough, but truly brilliant defensive effort.

Burke, ran his knackers off. In another game where he's able to be a forward threat, I think he'll be useful to have around.

Berge, was class in his role and came into his own tonight. We now have real competition and depth in that position and are spoilt for choice. So composed.

Egan - that decision has fucked us. Like I say, I don't think it is a red. Now, we're without him for 3 further games, unless we appeal. By that point, worse case scenario, we've lost the first 5. If that were to happen, I would still genuinely believe that played 5, lost 5 isn't a reflection of how well equipped we are. We'd need a run with a settled side to show what we're about. In Ampadu, we have some quality cover now and I thought he did well when he came on.

Ramsdale - IMO, Henderson gets to that goal. I can't help comparing, I think Henderson has more natural spring and gets there and makes the save. This is no Ramsdale bashing, just my opinion on that goal.

Lunny - I'm not onto bashing the lad here, and I'm not on that bandwagon, there's no scapegoating to be had, or at least not based on owt of substance. All summer, the talk has been of will he sign a new contract, can we afford to keep him but I actually wonder whether we ought to be able to afford to upgrade his position. He was effectively a £600k signing from Oxford, in League One. We saw his purple patch last season, but he is not yet a consistent performer at this level, and wasn't even so at the level below. I wonder whether a consistent, high performer at the level below could even be considered to be an upgrade - i.e. Swift.

Upfront - tonight shows again that we are woefully short. It was never going to be a strikers game with 10 men of course, but we lack that pace to open the game up even a tad and give us an outlet for the 10 men, beyond Burke's willing, once he was knackered. Burke ran and ran, but then the second most mobile option from the bench was McBurnie. We ideally need to two forwards, with Moose out for the foreseeable, but I doubt that will happen.

Targets - in dream land, one RCM and two forwards. Ideally, I'd hope for one midfielder and one forward by the end of the window. In reality? Who knows what we'll get done. Goals remain our main issue.

In conclusion, it's too early to judge owt for certain yet, unless you're me writing this, and then Lunny is wank, Henderson's better than Ramsdale, we need three signings and we're shit up top. 😉

Just to make you feel 1% better - its just the 1 game ban for Egan.

Bizarrely, that actually does. Cheers. I'm just keen for a settled side, with some additions, so that we can show others (and panicked voices amongst our own) what we can do. Over to Ampadu or Jags to come in then.

Why do we get the ball down the wings and then pass it about between Baldock, Bash and Lunny. Why not put a cross in first time instead of letting the opposition get organised? So predictable and we do it time and time again. Other than that, I thought it was never a red and we were good enough for a point.

SuperSonicBlade89

First of all... the red card. I understand why it's a red, but was he REALLY denying a scoring opportunity? They were both neck and neck contesting a 50/50 ball both pulling each other's shirts. So why did Watkins not get a card too albeit a yellow? Plus Ramsdale was coming out to clear it.

I agree. Watkins and Egan in a race for the ball.

Problem was Watkins held him back first and Egan just reacted back pulling his shirt for about 2 seconds then having a tussle. If Egan had just gone down backwards it would have been our free kick.

Problem with Villa players they are another team that goes down too easily at the slightest touch. Second half Basham lightly touched the side of a Target and he went flying forwards and they got a free kick. Bunch of jessie's.

All irrelevant if we'd shown some ambition pre-season as Watkins would/could have been at the opposite end of the pitch.

What do you expect when they have Tom Daley sorry Grealish playing for them.According to a retired prem ref it was never a red card because refs can only show a red card for denying a scoring opportunity if the attacker is in possession of the ball.At no time had Watkins had possession of the ball they were both chasing the ball tugging at each others shirt. If Egan was to do a Grealish and fall down he would have had a free kick but we are to honest. What a dick that ref was but not has bad as the blind ref we had the last time we went there, thank God we only go there once a year,I dread to think what the next ref will come up with when we are there next year.

So you think we will be going there next season but in which division. 😉
