I hear you chips, but isn't this sort of thread like the first cuckoo of spring? We have the "I'm not renewing" calls but then it all fades away. I fully expect most of the undecided to renew and probably some of the "no's" to renew too.
Only time will tell but I shall certainly not be having a ST if Blackwell is at the helm. I think Grumpy may be right and McCabe sees him as a man to complete a longer term project but if this is so then I think it will prove to be a very costly mistake.

I shall be renewing mine on the Kop, and I'll also be getting one for Small SV. This isn't because I have faith in any manager or chairman, it's simply because I can afford it, and I want to go.

I'm surprised at how many are saying they won't or may not renew. Unless you can't afford it or your circumstances make it difficult (e.g. live too far away, work weekends etc) then I don't see how you can decide not to bother if you are a Blade. I'm not a massive KB fan but I was a Blade before he came & will be after he's gone (God willing!).

Blade 4 life!

with all due respect deano, that is complete bollocks. part of going to be a football match is to entertained. why should people pay good money to watch useless twats like jordan stewart shank balls around a pitch for 90 minutes? we pay 20 quid a game, he picks up about 3 grand per game!

the product on offer is dire, at times this season i have been dreading going to home games because it is so boring.

That's partly true - but it's not just about entertainment. If so, we'd all support ManUre or Arsenal. It's about loyalty, meeting up with the lads, a few beers. It's about the hope for better in future. And things can only get better (there's a song here....) if enough people back the team.

that's true alco. only problem is the entertainment begins when you go in the pub and ends abruptly at 3pm!

That's about 90% of the reason why i go to any game.

I will be renewing next season and my daughter will be getting her 1st ST so she will make up for one of you deserters ;-)

Its a way of life and although I may moan a lot I will be there while ever health permits.

Another thing as well ... lets show the pigs how to sell ST's without all the begging !

Blade 4 life!

It's a free country and people have their choice. I don't buy anything just because I can afford it. Not many can claim to be a bigger Blade than me, ive followed them everywhere and take in about 34 league games a season on average.

The fact that i'm contemplating non-renewal makes absolutely no difference to my allegiance. The subject of Sheffield United takes up about 70% of my thoughts and 90% of my conversations. I went to an away game at Watford a few years back recovering from flu and a back injury so I don't see how deciding not to put any more money into greedy players' pockets makes me any less of a Blade.

It's called principles and I need the money more than the club does. Simple as that!

No, wont be renewing...bought tickets this year, have been to one game...the quality of football has been appalling! save my money for something else this year..

Despite several Blades agreeing with my point of view, others have quite fairly and admirably voiced their opinions about those of us reluctant to renew our season tickets. The basis of this opinion has mainly been on the grounds of ‘you should buy one if you’re a true Blade and can afford it.’ I’m not so sure it’s as simple as that but I will accept it as another point of view. But let’s consider the following;

1 – Trevor Birch has recently announced that the playing staff budget will be cut once again in the summer as part of the ‘re-profiling.’

2 – The current match-day atmosphere at the Lane is dire, sadly.

3 – A large section of the support (a sizeable minority) are strongly against the manager making the whole Blades experience a little tainted.

4 – The football on offer lacks any real method and is often improvised, if I’m being kind.

5 – There is no sign of any talent coming into the team from either the academy or our overseas clubs any time soon. This has been all but fully admitted by the club.

6 – We have had enough loan players to make a staring eleven and subs this season.

7 – We’re floundering outside the playoffs with a team supposedly over the ideal budget!

Despite all this I’m expected to forget all the disappointments and renew for the umpteenth year running because “it’s the right thing to do as a Blade.” A slightly unbalanced argument for me but fair enough.....................

Bearing in mind all of the above, what are my incentives to renew??? I’m looking for a kind fellow Blade to persuade me here. Come on, sell it to me..........Do the job that the club are so far failing to do and generate a good marketing angle to get my enthusiasm back into it!

  :(

If you can afford it do it.

The manager and the players will be long gone before you will. If you were around in Haslam's/Sirell's time would you have re-newed? I still went to The Lane because they are my team.

The times were bad then and will be again at some point because these things can/may happen and someone has to be at the bottom of the league. I not suggesting that we will be at the bottom next season and will state now that we won't be. I'm just pointing out that some teams have to be there, just the nature of playing in a league system.

If you can't afford it then thats a different matter but not renewing because it is boring is not a good excuse. We just need to hang in there. Who knows we might be pushing for the play-offs again next season?

Come on Dunc, get the chin up club going.

And with equal due respect that is complete & utter sh!te. I go because I'm a Blade. If we win I enjoy it whatever we play like. I'd rather we played good football of course and when we do it's a bonus. I also meet up with family/friends for a drink which adds to the occasion. I'm lucky that I can afford the ST for me & my lad and as long as I can, & my health is ok, I'll continue to renew.

Lou ... the vigour in which you are defending your decision not to renew ... makes me think you have a tinge of guilt about it and you will in fact renew as the deadline approaches ;)

Cos next season might just be the season we seal promotion at BDTBL by beating Leeds 5-0 and the following home game we send the Piggies crashing out of the division with a 7-0 victory. And that's after we put Man U, Arsenal and West Ham out of the cup (before getting beat by Chesterfield!)

It might just happen - and how bad would you feel if you weren't there to be part of it?

To be a Blade is to live in hope not expectation - Maybe - just maybe - next season will be the one we remember till our dying days.

Lou's the one who's "not that type of girl", but after a nice meal and a couple of bottles of wine....;)

It's not so much a tinge of guilt although I know what you're getting at. It's more a tinge of wanting to have the motivation to spend £400 on what is sometimes nothing but dross. I love the club dearly but I feel like I'm one of many football supporters who are getting mugged week in, week out.

Of coure I want to renew but I don't see why I should. I never rule out changing my mind but I am also very stubborn and generally when I say I'm not going to do something I don't. That is what is eating away at me. I feel very strongly about it and at the moment don't think I will renew now or closer to the deadline. The small part of me that wants to is being crushed under the weight of the larger part.

I am not one of these supporters who spouts off a sack load of complaints about United and then calls them the greatest team in the world when they win. I don't have a short memory like some supporters do.

It would take more than a couple of bottles of wine to get me excited about the Blades at the moment I can tell you. Incidently, do you have any ethanol? That might do the trick!

So if I'm not that type of girl.......does that make you the village bike? ;)

I won't be as easy to sway as you think. The 'guilty' part of me (going with Chingo's expression) is looking for someone to persuade me it's worth doing, because the club aren't forcing the issue that's for sure!

Well clearly you ARE that type of girl Lou, we just need to agree on how much you need down you to get started....

To get in bed with the United season ticket renewal?.......................

How many rounds can you afford? :D

As things stand it's a No for me, I will pick and choose which games to attend. If Blackwell goes however it will change to a quite possibly.

I agree with you in principle because I'm the same, but I believe football has changed so much these days that you can't begrudge people expecting value for their money.

While the staff at the club are earning so much, I think people have every right to expect entertainment aswell as success.

I think you have to reconcile the fact that there are 92 clubs in the leagues, and all their fans have the same hopes and expectations. It is inevitable in competition that some will win, some will lose, some will play poorly, some will play like Brazil.

Aside from the general cost issue and the players wages which I don't agree with, the simple fact above has been part of any competitive sport since time began.

What you need is stronger regulation, a wage cap, the FA to grow some bollocks and SKY and all the rest of the propaganda brigade to sod off elsewhere. Until then we'll get the razzmatazz, inflated wages, inflated ticket prices, 4 clubs winning everything and 88 clubs bankrupting themselves chasing an unobtainable dream.

That's the thing that depresses me, not SUFC. :)

Sensible post and exactly how I feel.

Spot on Bramley. It will go pop one day though trust me. It will all go back to how it used to be again because this can't be sustained forever and we're starting to see the beginning of the collapse now.

I think something will change in the next........4 to 5 years. It's coming, I can see it.

Something has to give.

I see the PL didn't implement the playoff thing, it amazes me that they daren't stop the top 4's status quo. Where's the competition?!

Totally agree on both counts, the game is ruining itself at the moment. I think it needs the salary cap to be introduced for it to find it's feet again.

I prefer going to away games and havent been able to go to as many this season, so will save money by not getting a season ticket, can go to more away games and pick and choose which home games i go to, it aint like we will sell out for many.
