4: Sunderland are a big club, one of the biggest in England and naturally if you want to raise the prestige of the English top flight then you want the biggest clubs with the more passionate fans and bigger stadiums in it.
5: The return of the Newcastle v Sunderland derby, which will create interest on Sky.
6: Their fans have suffered for a while down in league 1, so I have sympathy for their fans…at least they’re genuine and not glory hunters.

So the reality is that 95% of the nation will prefer Sunderland to win
….but it’s nothing personal against Sheff Utd….they’d be exactly same if Sunderland were playing Burnley in the final.

I dunno, I think there is a bit of a downer on Sheffield United out there. Nobody seemed to bring up the parachute payment thing with Burnley and Leeds as they constantly did with us. Also taking our Blades tinted glasses off…not many people seem to like Chris Wilder much, and our last two abysmal showings in the Prem have in many minds probably tarnished our reputation irreversibly….Also we are favourites for this game.

Outside of that I reckon it would be an even split. Maybe 55-45 in Sunderlands favour because we've been there 3 times in recent history and Sunderland have been away for a while, but don't think the swing will be that big.

Strange winners this year at Wembley with teams breaking their Wembley hoodoo. Mmmhhh... i wonder.....maybe it is our time.
 
We stunk the league out last season, didn't do much better results wise the last season we were there either. Can't expect many neutrals to want us back there. That's first wilder seasons a distant memory.

Would be a story for Sunderland to go up. Fanbase probably deserves it.

But I hope we stuff them.
 
The reality is, outside of the two areas concerned no one really cares who wins.
We all watch the play offs every year and have a favourite but don't really care if they don't make it.
 
I don't care what "neutrals" think. Why should anyone care?
I'm not bothered if nobody likes us or we're perceived to "stink out" the PL.
It's not a personality contest.
I quite like us being disliked. Much better than being everybody's darling!!
 
She's a typical plastic fan.

I think most traditional fans will want us to go up as we finished third over 46 games. Plus we were 14 points clear of them means we deserve it more. Anyway, who gives a fuck what neutrals think. After 60 plus years of supporting the Blades I think I deserve it.

It’s not been given enough publicity but the owners of the PL have brought in a few rules recently to ensure the gap widens.
This is a clever and sneaky way to bring in a closed shop via the back door.

The recent rule changes mean Championship clubs have a much less chance of staying up are, some might say an impossible task.

1: The change from being able to bring on 2 subs from a bench of 5 to being able to use 5 subs from a bench of 7.
In the past the task was for promoted clubs to spend big so the first 11 were high quality and strong, costing about £50 to £100 mill.
However that’s no longer good enough, in order to compete you need 20 players, all at PL quality, this costs £200 to £300 million.

2: The new time added on at the end rule so most matches last 100 minutes.
Weaker promoted teams traditionally use a bit of gamesmanship slowing down the game going down injured, when under pressure.
The PL want a fair open contest with no gamesmanship, sounds good but it just means the better teams stand a greater chance of winning.

3: Next season they are bringing in the goalkeeper must release the ball within 8 seconds otherwise he concedes a corner rule.
This means no longer will we see Burnley’s James Trafford, make a save and fall on the ball taking 30 seconds to eventually release it,
Again this is a tactic for over worked defences to take a breather….but this just gives the better teams a stronger chance of winning.

No one can really contest these rule changes because it will make the game better to watch but it just means the theoretically better team will win.
What’s the next rule change? Teams aren’t allowed to “park the bus”, they must try to attack every 5 minutes otherwise they concede a penalty?

Now clubs like Everton and Wolves no longer fear relegation because they know that if they are relegated they have a 90% chance of being promoted from the Championship because they have such strong squads. Think gaining 100 points in the Championship will become common practice for the relegated clubs.

I'm okay with any rules to put a stop to timewasting tbh, it's one of the scourges of football and it's getting completely out of hand. Sunderland have been on the receiving end of some disgusting timewasting since our demise. Particularly in League 1 it was horrendous. If Sunderland go up (whether this season or in the future), I'm sure we'll be trying "the dark arts" as much as any other struggling team, but it doesn't make it right. The sooner they just make football 35 mins per half (or whatever) and stop the clock when the ball is dead, the better imho.

You're 100% correct about the changes to substitutions making it even more of a closed shop. It just gives the teams with huge budgets an even better chance of collecting the points.
 
The neutrals are wrong about preferring new teams but not in our case. The teams with the best chance of being competitive in the PL are stable parachute teams.The reason is simple: more money and several players already in situ with PL ability. We aren't that club though. Neither are Sunderland, Bristol or Coventry City.
 
Neutrals don't want us back as we're a yo-yo team and we stunk the league out last year.

I couldn't give a toss what neutrals think, they've not got the play-off baggage to deal with that we have.

Personally, I'm not that bothered about being in the PL again, it's overated, bent and were set up to be cannon fodder, but I do want to get rid of the play off curse / hoodoo.

That's all very well but it has to be balanced with redistributive policies. There aren't any. It's all going in one direction: increased inequality.

There's a plethora of other factors making the gap bigger. Additional European places, PL prize money, loss of domestic cup ties, lucrative pre season tours, the flawed academy system allowing big clubs to take players for a song to name but a few. The PL has entered its killing "The goose that laid the golden egg phase". By that I mean the current policies are killing the very factors that made it so attractive in the first place. So many borderline unwatchable games now as the gap is ridiculous.
 
A team whose had 3 seasons in the Premier League in the last 6 years Vs a team whose not played there in 8 years

If I wasn't a blade I'd be hoping Sunderland won
