Apparently we spent over £6m this season

I thought Northampton were beyond broke? We certainly didn't spend a fortune. Everyone just assumes we paid a bomb for our best players. We didn't, he just got bargains' and used his budget well.

He's just made some figures up. Fuck Oxford, who gives a shit what some prick on an Oxford board thinks? They drove out a manager who could have probably taken them to the championship and they're still pretending it's a good thing because otherwise it would mean they're stupid twats for hounding him out.

He is intimating we bought players for 6 and a bit million rather than it being the wages
I thought pre season we could shell out 2m and probably werent far off , but theres no way of ever knowing with undisclosed fees and some are staged payments based on appearances which complicate getting figures

Ok in that case, its much easier to work out. Statement from Wilder was that we have not paid any more than 300k for a single player this season.

My quick research this morning, i found that Hussey was bought for a "nominal" fee, most were free transfers but we paid "undisclosed" fees for 8 players. If we assume the worst case to be 300k for each of those 8 players, thats a total of 2.4 Million.

If we are more conservative, then i'd suggest that the total is between 1-1.5 Million

Again, that doesn't include any money recouped from player sales.

I'd also suggest that our Revenue to Spending (on Playing staff) ratio is much better than the likes of Oxford.

We've spent the last 6 years down here with the highest budget and shit managers

Now i'd guess we have the cheapest squad and manager we've had in that time and we've HMS pissed the league

We didn't have the highest budget in either of the seasons where Clough was manager either.
Budget is a budget, it's still down to the manager to use it wisely. On each season, expectations were that we were to get promoted, and regardless of what anyone says, the budget we had was always big enough to remain competitive.
This season, wilder has proven that if you get the right players it's attainable. Not sure if it's the cheapest or not, but it's certainly a lot less than Adkins had. He had a budget bigger than all bar Wilsons first season by my reckoning. What a bollocks he made of it.

What a load bollocks, I bet we spent as much paying Adkins, Woolford and Hammond off as on the team that won promotion.

It's difficult to quantify.
I keep saying it, but that Academy costs serious money to run.
Lots of full time coaches, admin staff, Physio's, and top medical facilities. Add to that we have a lot of junior pros compared to many clubs, and certainly more than all other clubs in L1.
Question is, is that budget kept separate or added to the first team budget? If separate, then you have to weigh off whether fees raised for DCL and Ramsdale are used to fund the academy or first team.

Reason I say this, is I read folk saying we have sold x, and bought y so it's paid for them. But I consider if those fees are just covering academy costs for another season.

Absolutely! Wilder has no doubt been hampered (along with every manager) budget wise based on the payments made to former managers in "Compensation"

It's probably safe to say anyone who does not think the job Wilder has done in the last two seasons has been anything short of superb, is either an idiot, or an Oxford fan. The guy quoting those figures is probably both. Regardless of budgets, Wilder has been brilliant in the last couple of seasons!!

Its never simple working fees out
some will be a straight forward fee ,some will have add ons
we might pay 330k for one
then get one for 150k , but might have stage payments on achievement basis
also we never find out how much we pay for loan players
some will come free some might come with a signing on fee , we never find out
but as you stated with Adams and DCL moving on wed probably have a slight plus balance on nett spend
especially on other players we moved on that we get some money for ie brayford did we get a signing on fee for him

Whatever the figures are Wilders probably not spent nett anything of note , or outside what weve earnt from sales
Cant see us getting big fees for any players who could leave next season
wont get irate threads over future stars going as cant think of one as its a team effort thats won us this title

Yeah you're right, its trying to simplify something which is quite complicated and will contain staged payments etc

Just a bit of fun for a sunday morning at work and having my xls spreadsheet open looks like i'm working.

What kind of budget can we expect for next season ,I would guess income increases enough to cover losses ( at least partially ) so money the owners have been pumping into cover those could be diverted into the playing budget or is that over simplifying things ?

what is shining through is McCabes not pocketing any incoming money but allowing CW to spend it
its been minimal but sufficient , out of necessity this season as income streams are poor
but next season with a lot more income streams we can up the budget significantly

plus the rewards on going up again are mind blowing

For 25 players in the squad? I think that would be way too High, but here
- Average weekly wage £5800
- Total Wages £7.54M
-Total £8.245 M

Weekly Wage range £4000-£15000 with a mean of £5000

Looking at that i think its way too high, perhaps under Clough or Adkins, we'd be in this range, but with the likes of Hussey, Freeman, Wright, Brooks, Scougal, Reed, McNulty I just can't see them being on wages of 4k a week, similarly i can't see Billy, EEL, Fleck and Moore (as top earners) being on 10-15k either.
i did this spreadsheet (hope it uploads) earlier in the year when i was bored

slightly different way of guessing but roughly agree with swiss blade

excluding transfer fees and based on players who qualify for fair play assessment i think player wage bill for this season is about £5 million
