Anyone still deluded over Berge?

I said at the time of signing him, we didn’t need him we were playing well, when he arrived Wilder tried to shoe horn him in and it’s never worked since.
Does anyone actually know HIS preferred position?
Yeah, bench

He is our best player.
He is the most comfortable on the ball.
The problem IS - he needs playing higher up the pitch, feeding the forwards.
Why he is hanging around our defensive midfield is a complete mystery to me. Wilder played him there too !
Totally wasted position for a man of his ability on the ball. He could create openings for himself and forwards if he was given a more attacking role.
What a load of shite

All the scouts and coaches are wrong. All the professional football people are wrong.

Sander iz crap coz I saw him in't game not trying ard enuf.
Who don’t they come in and put money where their mouths are then?

He's being fouled not tackled. And Townsend could have broken his ankle with a very late challenge 2nd half. Didn't even get a free kick.
Remember when we played Palace and won 1 nil the other year? We battered Zaha all game, the next games against us he tore us a new arsehole. I can't see Sander doing the same against Brum and WBA, he hasn't got it in him.

yet but not 2 minutes ago against Donny in Pre-season he was The Messiah..

He's not been great - but ahead of him in the cull I'd have Verrips/ Robinson/ Fleck/ Burke and McBurnie

5 players at 2 million each would sort it all out.

Yet no-one signed him 2 years ago and noone has signed him this summer when surely if teams would have given us our money back we would have sold? This notion we are waiting for a 30+ million bid is nonsense.

I don't see how his value has increased at all and it seems other clubs agree or he would have left.

That was one of the rare times I saw him apart from his pathetic karate kick ckearance on the 3rd.

As for the him being fouled...he was shoved off the ball 3 or 4 times by much stronger players and then looked at the ref and almost looked like he was about to cry as he lay on the floor. Needs to toughen up physically and mentally. Complete soft touch.

Amusing some still saying he's an attacking midfielder. Some saying he's Norwoods position but seems most now are saying the same as me...he's not very effective in any position.

Good players raise the game of others around them and don't always need other good players to help them stand out. This notion that he is held back by other poor players is laughable as if everyone else was that bad surely he'd stand out but he looks as tame/gutless as the rest.

Been a lump since his home debut when he gave the ball away on the edge of our area and gifted Bournemouth a goal. 6' 5" but jumps 5' 2". (Witness his pathetic attempts to deal with dopey Kyle Bartley at throw-ins. His attempted marking for the 4th goal was laughable). 6' 5" but gets pushed around like a bag of washing. Athletic? Manages to patrol the 5yds either side of the touchline with ease (irony intended).
To think we backheeled Duffy and bought this complete liability for £20m. His value now must be zero, so can't see us getting shut. Wilder made some terrible signings in the Prem, but I think this is at the top of the tree, along with Brewster....
Never been a fan if I'm honest. Could've got a lot better from the championship.
I'd rather have had Besic!

You can’t expect 1 player to carry 2 / 3 others who haven’t got the bollocks to take the game to the opposition. The entirety of the midfield surrendered yesterday & all of them need dropping. It’s inexcusable to not even attempt to win the ball, track back or try and impose yourself on the game.

Berge isn’t the sole problem.

His current value has not changed, its always been and will always be, what someone is willing to pay
Yes, but it would help us decide on what to do next, and how harshly we should judge him.

If we’re judging him as a young prospect, who nobody would want anyway, then we’d give him time.

if we view him as a £20m plus footballer, we should get rid to the highest higher as we’ve had our pants removed, and that type of money is desperately needed elsewhere.

Here we go again - it’s the others fault. What is Berge’s contribution, as our highest valued asset? (Or even if he was free)

He's never on the ball. Shite as they are, Norwood and Fleck do actually show up for a pass. Sorry to labour a point, but contrast this with the way Duffy always wanted the ball, and could hold on to it under pressure, and wanted to try something different to get it to Sharp etc.

'Emperor's New Clothes', 'None so blind as those that wont see' etc. All apply to Berge and his acolytes.

Football is a collective effort. If you’re expecting 1 player to dominate an opposition midfield, then expect to lose 100% of the time. Doesn’t matter what Berges value is, he can’t be expected to dominate an entire opposition midfield on his own. Xavi would look dogshit alongside this iteration of Norwood, Fleck & Osborn.

He looks genuinely lost at the moment. He's been better than this before, not much, but better.

As already said, he needs an attacking role, but can we carry a player too nesh to defend?

To be brutally honest the midfield improved dramatically when Freeman came on, looked to move and play the ball faster, not only did Freeman go past his man, it seemed to be his first thought, not lay off an easy pass, in ten minutes Freeman made the midfield play.

It always sticks in my mind that in that abject home defeat to Palace last season the only time we played well was when Berge went off and Osborn came on. He at least had energy.

Not much he can do if his midfield counterparts are allergic to the ball

He can’t. But he didn’t perform in his first season, when he was surrounded by players who’d got us challenging for Europe.

What was his excuse then?

Berge is often described as a Rolls Royce player, he is actually proving that, in so much he is looking like a luxury, we don't need a Rolls we need a couple of 4x4 diesel pickups!

The Championship Pogba, bags of ability but consistently fails to deliver it.

In his defence, the ball being lumped over his head all the time doesn’t allow him to get on the ball as often as he’d like.

Never been impressed since day one and never understood the adulation, he's slow in body and thought, gets dispossessed too easily and gives the ball away far too often.
Norwood love him or loath him at least kicked us on to another level when he arrived which is more than you can say for this big lump.

His midfiel counterparts were absolutely fine until his arrival. The midfield hasn’t been the same since.

Yet somehow the onus is on the others to drag Berge’s performances up.

Why the blind faith that it’s the others letting Berge down, and not the reverse?

You are right 100% correct, however football is also a physical game, a game that can turn or be affected by not just a goal but a tackle, WBA strolled through our midfield, there are 2 tackles that stick out last night, Freeman on his backside still managed in part with a bit of luck to beat 2 players, late on Norwood did a sliding tackle when he looked to leave a bit of follow through on their player
Football is about attitude, we don't have any leaders on the pitch, Freeman & Osborn have more will and fight than Berge does, Freeman & Osborn have the ability to drag Fleck and Norwood with them, with Berge everything is pedestrian
