Anyone else worried?

Doyle - Flawed.. He gives more to the team than fans give him credit for. Either that or the majority of United fans are just that thick.
Has a tendency to go to ground too easily when trying to win possession and also picks up too many needless bookings. However, provides solidity in the middle of the park and is very good at doing the simple defensive midfield work ("water carrier"?).

Flynn - One of our better players last season. Unfortunately, wingers are renowned for their pace and trickery with their ability to get to the byline and get in great crosses. Flynn has got many great things about his game, again that go unnoticed.
In a team lacking pace and dynamism, Flynn's lack of pace and dynamism stands out and overshadows his workrate. I think he'd be better at full back.

Hill - I don't like Hill. BUT, he stepped up last season both at LB & CB when required and he played really well. Particularly when Collins was out.
I don't like Hill at full back, particularly when it's McMahon at right back. As a centre half he reads the game well and leads the line. He is the epitome of the model pro.

Ironside - Seriously? You're going to knock a 19yr old who has played 12 times?
I want Ironside to succeed but he needs to start working on instinct. He'll either score 10 next season or none and I do think a spell on loan somewhere would benefit him.

For some reason known only to DW (senior) was that many players were played out of position with wingers playing on the opposite side of the pitch.

The result was that they then cut inside to favour their best foot and crowded out the penalty area, I hope the new DW plays them on the wing they are meant to be on, so that the play will be spread wide and open up some space in the area so that the striker(s) and the opposite winger can do their job in a bit more space.

With regard to Porter, he won the long ball so many times last season, but he had no one to lay it off to. - He definitely has to have a pairing.

Im not worried atm.
Only about lack of strikers. However i think we will end up with a further 2 before Sept.

Probably 1 perm & 1 loanee.

I'm not knocking him, I'm saying porter is better.

At the moment the lad is nowhere near good enough. It is not 'knocking' to acknowledge that. Some of you with exaggerated expectations of a young man yet to score a goal in an adult league (and not many in youth football) might be well advised to dampen your enthusiasm a little.

Now here's a fucking shock

I was at Raith Rovers and McFadzean was on the Right with Murphy on the Left so maybe the managers know best ?!?!

Fact: Not many Blades were begrudging Porter when he popped up to score an important goal in the play-off semi final against Stevenage to send us to Wembley, what happened after that is irrelevant. At the same time due to some unknown chip on the shoulder by a good few fans not many were singing his praises and it might as well have gone in off the refs harris.

I don't dislike Porter I think he does a decent enough job in what he does best. Just because he doesn't bang in 20 a season blades fans haven't taken to him but he can score goals and equally he can make them. United's style of play at times hasn't suited him and I have felt sorry for him at times when his main role has been to get on the end of anything that is lofted up the pitch.

We need more than Porter but from what I am aware Weir is addressing this and is in negotiations with a couple of strikers.

For those who haven't been to the friendlies who have the chip on the shoulder about Porter you may be surprised to know that he hasn't done bad in all fairness. He's been given a clean slate by Weir and he is trying to take it and lets be fair the goals have helped him in doing so. Inject a bit of confidence in him and let him have a proper bite at the cherry and I feel theres 10+ goals in him easy. What with our natural wide players as well this year this will only suit porter who likes to get his head on things.

Worry about Cresswell if anything not Porter!

Not worried about Porter, the lad as the ability to score in this leauge, but he never really got a proper run in the team, seems to get overshadowed.
Just have to look at Morgans first game in charge to see what Porter can offer, the question is can he be consistent enough.

Reading the argument I can definitely see both sides to it.

I don't think wingers on opposite sides is a bad idea, but for it to be effective you need overlapping full backs to create the space for them to exploit. With two more defensive minded full backs like we have, I think it's better to have them on their 'correct' side.

If you see a full back make an overlapping run, the defender either leaves him creating space down the wing for him to exploit and either cross or carry it into the box, or he follows him giving you one less man to beat to get into the middle of the pitch where being on the 'wrong' wing helps for a cross or shot. In today's game this is the better option for me so for us to do this we need to look at bringing in better full backs, or at least encouraging the ones we have not to panic if they go past the halfway line.

Nothing from the games against these "mighty scottish sides" means a great deal at all. The manager is merely understanding his squad and the options he has available.

If we had lost 5-0 in all three games, that would mean just as much. Nothing.

It would mean our defence is shit and none of our players could score. 3 x 5-nil loses mean everything.
