Anyone else have that strange feeling?...

Of course - it used to be the Cup Winners cup so if the winner was already in Europe the runner up would be granted the place.
Now it is the Europa League they can line the pockets of all the top flight teams so that it rewards money and not achievement.

Isn't it a far greater achievement that a team from the third tier gets to the final of a knock out competition - where there is no room for error and they have to play more rounds in the competition to start with - like Bradford did - than a team finishing 7th or 8th in the Prem?

Incorrect I am afraid. In the CWC, the FA Cup runners up qualified for it if the winner qualified for the European Cup. The League Cup winner qualified for the UEFA Cup and if the League Cup winner qualified for either the EC or the CWC (or if the winner was not a top division team), the place went, then as now, the next ranking team in the top division.

I still think the Footballing Gods owe us Blades one for singing Brian Clough's name so loud at his last game in charge that it brought tears to his eyes. Wonder if Nigel was there that day? Probably not but I'm sure has seen the pictures and is fully aware of it.

we might just do it all depends on how they set out in the first leg, confident that we can get a result of some kind at home we just need a draw or dare i say it win at WHL. Then if you want to dream further liverpool make it past chelsea play like crap in the final we embarrass them gerrard cries and we lift the trophy.

I would absolutely do an uncontrolled love wee at BDTBL in two weeks time if we got to a cup final. As said above. We've never seen the Blades get to a final before. Promotion will come (eventually). The lift and belief even if we lost the final would be something else.

Everybody loves a smart arse :)

Kenilworth, over to you.....

Already posted about them sitting in a tree, Blood
Leave that sort of obvious filth to someone with less wit.

I prefer to point out the slightly obscure and somewhat contrived inferences in people's posts - something that stretches the brain just a tad, without being overly taxing.

Agree, should stress if there was any seriousness in this I wouldn't have commented.....I blame Swiss...for almost everything that manifests itself as contentious, it's the price he pays for being between jobs ;)

Never underestimate the power of Sheffield United.

Don't want to sound a pain in the arse, but even getting to the final , or even winning the cup , would not mask the biggest disappointment of not getting promotion. The cup runs are great , but are a nice to have . The bread and butter stuff is getting out of shit league 1.

Mr Clough and the players concentration and aim has to be the league.

UTB

If we got promotion I would celebrate with a few beers and be as happy as Larry. If we won a cup, especialy as a 3rd division side, I would soil my pants with 6 different bodily fluids and be as happy as Larry balls deep in Rachael Riley.

With your vast football knowledge I had assumed that you were a bit older than me but seeing that you were born after 1971, I was wrong!

My formative years were 1978-90 when we were relegated 3 times and promoted 4 times - i.,e. we changed division less than once every 2 years. Interesting times - the only season when we were in neither serious promtion contention or relegation danger were 82-3 and 86-7.

Kane picking up a nice niggly 3 week injury this saturday would be beneficial

Your right you,re post on punctuation is true , from days of yore your average yorkie has rotated them , a yaw on the you,re front your right to point it out .Some say its a yawn , yet you,re not afraid to prove your point,

Hammy tweak please

That we'll go on and beat spurs... the odds are against us but i think we could actually do it...

One can dream eyh

I think we will score a goal but doubt we will win over the two legs.

I've got a feeling in my bones that United will pull this off over the two legs, so much that I'm even thinking of having a sneaky little bet on it!

Trouble is I'm so unlucky whenever I put money on owt, but then again maybe that's more to do with the longshots I pick!

2 legs is what will kill us off. One night of magic at The Lane as we had against Southampton would be more than possible against Spurs, but over 2 legs their quality should see them through. I'm not expecting a pasting, though. We will definitely score at home, and maybe away. I can't see them getting more than 2 in either game.
