Gone Elsewhere Antonee Robinson

With him being represented by the same Agency as Duffy and Lundstram. I can see them trying to steer him away from us due to our no bullshit approach to Agent and Wage demands.

Everton now. I'm calling Burnley are next.

If it's a race to sign him, then surely we won? Because we had our bid accepted first. 🤔

If he's hanging on trying to get a better deal for himself, or if the club are hanging on trying to get a better deal for themselves (the administrators I should say) then that's a different matter. I don't think Chris plays them games though - so they'd better make their minds up quick. I know it must be a difficult decision, wondering whether to sign for a top end Premier League club with a realistic chance of qualifying for Europe, or Everton.

My guess is Robinson will obviously know genuine interest and probably have a clear preference of where he want to go. Gut says that may be us, we seem to have been leading the charge for the longest.

However his agent is simply earning his coin by doing what agents are meant to do and get him the best deal possible. If this means falsifying interest or making us aware of genuine interest then theres not a lot we can do.

We represent a great opportunity, particularly for Wing Backs and can't really see a better fit for a young player. However we'll also have a view of wages we can and are prepared to offer.

Due to his release clause we are on a level playing field from a bid perspective and everything is on personal terms. He'll make a decision that's right for him, my feeling is if he goes elsewhere and ends up 2nd choice then probably not the right player for us. If he goes elsewhere gets more money and is a 1st choice then you'd have to say he's made the right decision!

What will be will be!

If the lad can command 50k a week then good luck to him. I don’t think that paper is a reliable source but I’ll play the game for arguments sake.

If we have agreed the fee and offered terms then that’s our bit done. If he’s the right sort of character for us and recognises a good thing he will sign and happy days. If he goes somewhere else for money then no problem, good luck to him and we’ll get someone that wants to have a good career.

50k a week for a Championship wing back is crazy. I wouldn’t want to see us pay him that but if it’s his going rate fair enough, good luck lad.

League 1 wing back now.

On one hand, when you factor in the very low transfer fee and whatever signing on there will be, it's actually still a very good deal for capable back-up. On the other (and particularly in our case), it can't be good for team morale when the young back-up LB is picking up more than most (if not all) of the first team.

Edit to say, if we wanted to challenge for his signature still, I suppose we could do it with a hefty signing on fee and then bonuses based on appearances. But that all feels a little Football Manager, so I'm not sure how that works in the real world!

Mental from Fulham if true, not even a positron they're in desperate need for. Crazy money and I'd imagine more than double any offer we've made

We agreed a fee a while ago now, and like past transfers that have ended up going public we (to date) haven’t managed to get this one over the line.
In the past, the longer it goes on it increases the likelihood he goes elsewhere. Whether the delay in completing is just down to the state of Wigan being in receivership, or whether it’s due to the player or his agent looking at other options we don’t know for sure.
It’s frustrating for us, and probably more so for Wilder.
What we do know is that we have the space in the squad for several new players following the release of a fair few and the likely sale of Lundstram, and desperately need an injection of creativity in the final third. The problem is that the break between the seasons is short and with the speed of our transfers we are unlikely to see many complete until very close to or just after the start of the season.
I’m hopeful we get this lad, but I have concerns it’s going to end up with a bidding war on wages....and we don’t play those games.

Our best hope is that Paul Cook holds some sway with him, the lad is settled up north, and that he has a level head and can see what’s best for his career in the short term. Working with Wilder could well put him firmly in the spotlight for greater things.
