According to today's Star Adkins says we 'grossly underestimate McEverly's contribution'....' he's on the training pitch every day'.. oh and he's got a left foot which helps !

Seems to be a pattern developing here, I'm beginning to think we should attend training sessions not games ? Doesn't bode very well for contract negotiations and player recruitment this summer does it?

Seeing as mceverly has just shoved Adkins cock straight in his mouth you'd expect him to return the favour, apparently it's all coming together now there's fuck all to play for...thanks lads...

Not sure why we don't understand McEveley's contribution, he scores well on our Player Ratings most week since he picked up his game after a poor start to the season. Very good player with some limitations but as ever it's about blending players within the team and playing them with partners and in positions which suit their strengths and cover their weaknesses. At least Adkins doesn't play him out of position!!

He's been one of our better, more consistent players for the majority of the season.

I think he's poor at left back, and had a poor start to the season but has picked it up and been consistently good since.

It's a ridiculous headline and opening paragraph for an article that's generally just a standard positive article. Hardly a confrontation with fans as James Shield, on a slow news day, suggests.

Here are the quotes:

"People might not love Jay or whatever but I’ve made him captain for a reason,” Adkins said. “He’s out there every single day on the training ground and having a left-footed player really helps.

“It means, like Bash, he can bring the ball out and play a diagonal ball. If you have a right footed player, then it can nullify that option. Jay has been playing really well and he gives us that.”

“The (back) three have all got different qualities, different attributes and, importantly, the balance of a left footed player in there and a right footed player too,” he added.”

And that's it.

At left back, he's dog shit.
At centre-back, he's wank.

But at left center-back, he's not so bad.

Realistically, we're probably looking at another season with him, which I'm very sceptical of. I just fear we'll see the McEveley of old as soon as his name is on that dotted line. 1 year deal with somebody either new or from the academy pushing him hard for his place.

Having said that, if Adkins does want 4-4-2 next season then I'd think very hard about saying goodbye to Mr. Mac.

Reading comments from people saying that they're happy to retain McEveley for next season makes me realise how far we truly have fallen. Persevere with players like him expect nothing more than the results we've been getting. He's dreadful and needs shipping. I'll never forget the farcical 5-5 draw away at Swindon in the play-offs when their lad marched straight through our defence to score. McEveley came across and was so easily brushed aside it was embarrassing, but also inevitable.

Thought he played well on Saturday apart from s few dodgy touched earlier on

For me he's "steady". I noticed a couple of times on Saturday we had made 5 or 6 fast paced passes then it goes to McEverley and he stops the ball rolling with his studs. He does this quite often, maybe too often. I don't think he has the ability to play a first time ball.

McEveley has been terrible at times, especially early in the season, but judge players on each performance, not hark back to previous games, or an opinion set in stone.
He has, by and large, been really good since December, and I would imagine, will be offered a new deal.

My only critisism of him recently, is he starts game sloppy, then improves as it goes on, you never see those barnstorming runs towards the Bramall lane end, it`s always second half attacking the Kop.

A decent League One player.

Amazing how players who have under performed for the majority of their time at the club suddenly find a bit of form ahead of their contracts running out

There is a danger of applying that to simply the mentality of the players, worried they won't get a new deal. We have to also bear in mind that these players have in the latter portion of the season been playing in a new system potentially better for them, and arguably playing in a better environment following the reductions in the squad. Take McEveley as an example here. Is he just playing better now because he's motivated by a potential new contract, or is it due to him being part of a central three in defence alongside a much better unit that now includes Baptiste?

Mac is probably one of a handful of experienced players Adkins feels he needs to support a young team.
He does disappoint at times but if Adkins feels he is one of a few he needs to retain, that's alright with me.
As I have said before we have to trust him.!!

Hes been our best defender this season ,not saying much I know but its there. However its en vogue to say hes crap and blame everything on him ,because he handled a ball at White Hart Lane and Adkins made him his captain.

Billy Sharp must be shit then too.

Sharp's fine.

Outside of him I'm not too sure how many of the others you'd be justifiably able to make that point about. Which of course is the issue.

I'd sooner JMac was released but it's clear Adkins is managing expectations.

No one applied that to that Goalkeeper Jagielka either!

so 2 spots next season where we can bring in new players are going to be filled by renewing McEveleys deal and signing Hammond.

I despair.

Looks like 8th to 12th place again then.
4 spots , goalkeeper and Mr Adkins unless sunjihi pulls his finger out

You must have missed seeing him play in January to November 2015.

If we ever and I mean ever want to get promotion from this league we can't be having players like McEveley here, it really can't be any more simpler for me. Thank you Jay and good luck with the rest of your career is what I'd say.

3rd spot will be Flynn . If these guys are willing to take drastic pay cuts to stop at the lane , then sign all 3 IMO.

McEveley and Flynn would be plying there trade lower down if not . I know using that logic shows the standard of player we would be keeping , but it's a squad game , and Adkins needs players who will be committed and can be trusted.

Also footy is a confidence , mental attidue sport and all 3 can be a asset as part of a squad .

Adkins doesn't do himself any favours in his press interviews written or verbal , as there is no Adkins love in at BDTBL with supporters . However the latest article on McEveley which has got some people's backs up , has a sprinkle of press mischief.

So much this.

What do players have to do to show that they aren't good enough?

We're supposed to be going for promotion. Even when he has a decent game like on Saturday, he still has a couple of hilariously awful moments.
