This is a concern, not a criticism I like Wilder. But all that's happened is that we have got rid of a lot of football players and the squad we beloved a year ago was good enough with a couple of additions is no more. A good manager signs good players economically and gets the best out of existing ones. Clough got them playing in his first year. Adkins failed miserably on both counts. Now they are gone or transfer listed, not all but many.
I think if anything the actions of Wilder with the list and how he's addressed those left in contract should dispel the often-voiced myth that Clough left us with a good enough set of players that only needed a couple of additions. Were that true Wilder would have reversed the actions started by Adkins to move on swathes of the squad left him.
