Everyone on here criticising Hammond, (which is fair enough), but is there a single person on this forum that would seriously turn down £10k a week - assuming he'll be on something like this.

I'm not looking to defend the guy, but surely the fault here lies with the who ever wrote/agreed to the contract.

I've not heard of many times when a player has the final say in whether to remain at a club or not, isn't it always the club that usually has the final say?

On another note, lets all take a moment to thank God Sammon didn't have something similar written into his contract ;)

I might have been right, it was a plan all along?

For some reason I'm convinced that we will have a clear out and this is all part of the master plan as is not going up [this season].

Well here is the thing, how much is he worth? How much does he need?

He's done this for one reason only, a middle finger at the club and it's fans because of the feelings towards him and Adkins from the end of last season. He could easily have found a player coach role on similar money.

I hope he sleeps well at night and tells his grandchildren in the future of this proud two year chapter In his life.

Personnaly I find his behaviour totally disgraceful.

He also hasn't enough faith in his own ability to get a contract elsewhere.

Hes done it for a quarter of a million other reasons actually.

Do you really think many in any walk of life have a conscience these days?
His pillow is stuffed with a fresh 5K per week that he will proudly pass on to them with the story of how he gained it.
No player coach roll at this level will pay anywhere near that.

He's still only 33, not that old. He could've got a contract elsewhere on at least 2.5k p/w. He still has a decent reputation.
He'll already be absolutely made financially. I hope that extra 2k p/w or so is worth it, as he rots away all season and wastes the last year of his playing career in a place where he's hated. As said though, he knows he's past it, he won't have any faith in anyone else giving him a contract, so he's decided to give us the middle finger and accept what's coming to him.

Until we know the full facts we cant really comment. Does anyone know the full facts? Or are we assuming?
Shields will know.

I think the full facts are not private, we all know the situation.

Mercenary twat cashes in on a contract offer made by a now departed bigger twat with a club that he has no shown no affinity or respect for.

Dean Hammond's loyalties lie with himself and his family. He might be able to get an offer elsewhere, but he'd rather be considering other offers whilst he's got a wage coming in every month.

Who on here would quit their job and then look for a new one? Who on here would turn down a salary if it was available to them?

Don't blame him one bit, the blame lies with who negotiated the contract. It's like blaming West Ham for the Olympic stadium deal, it's the idiots that gave them the deal that are to blame.

You really think he has done this to piss us off? Who the hell take a load of agro for a year to piss thousands of people off?

It's all about the money, if he could get a similar deal elsewhere he would have been long gone.

I would consider turning it down, actually, if I knew that all my colleagues and customers hated me to the point where my every moment at work would be a living hell that would eventually poison every other aspect of my life. Life's too short for that shit unless you've got the skin of a rhino.

Classic case of the tail wagging the dog
For a number of years my friend Mystic Meg has seen brown envelopes but is not sure why they should be connected with the Blades Way

He must be pissed off that he had no part to play at Leicester, missing out on the big pay day.

He's a shithouse and no mistake, but at 5k a week if that's true, I'd use him as a hatchet man to protect the midfield... Put him on if things get choppy, put a few into the stands take the yellows.. Know what I mean..

That's if we get stuck with him.....which isn't likely..

Yesterday, I was surprised and shocked to see that United had given him the decision on the further year. However, whatever the money he's now a United player on our books and if he isn't transferred I don't see any reason why he can't be a decent squad player next year. He's no better or worse than Doyle and if he hadn't been signed as our key man and then become associated so closely to the Adkins omnishambles, all this vitriol wouldn't be outpouring.

Wilder has made an amazing statement of intent with both the released list and the transfer list. I think he'll be lucky to get rid of all 7 on the transfer list and then it's about how those players react. If Hammond really is the amazing professional we've heard about, perhaps he can find a way back into the managers plans.

As for Hammond's morals in this, I must be a very bad man because if someone offered me the same, I'd snap it up in his shoes.

This is a concern, not a criticism I like Wilder. But all that's happened is that we have got rid of a lot of football players and the squad we beloved a year ago was good enough with a couple of additions is no more. A good manager signs good players economically and gets the best out of existing ones. Clough got them playing in his first year. Adkins failed miserably on both counts. Now they are gone or transfer listed, not all but many.

Some of the released and transfer listed players have played well for us, not consistently, but at times very well including in big matches; Kennedy, Flynn,Harris, Freeman for example and Coutts is a good player in my view.

But the suggestion is none has the potential to succeed under Wilder, plus all the others. Fine, OK. I just hope we're not throwing the baby out with the bath water that's all. They all are crocked or have bad attitude do they? It's going to be a tough ask to find and mould into a winning formula the players we need to supplement the ones we have left, we need to hope for th best.
The frenzy for the cull feels horribly at times like a lynch mob

I don't think Hammond will be here come August, from his perspective I can't blame him for taking the option. If he is looking to leave (which I'm sure he is after the last game and his mate Adkins sacking) much better to negotiate with other clubs from a position of strength i.e a £5k p/w contract which they then have to match or beat rather than no contract and they have him over a barrel and can offer peanuts. Despite his performances I think he's an honest player, it's just time has caught up with him (and his legs). He's probably as frustrated as we are and didn't envisage his career ending this way. Great start by CW, onwards and upwards.

To be fair to Hammond, he could look better with a younger midfield next to him. It doesn't really help when he's got a combination of Woolford, Coutts and Flynn alongside him. Not saying he is going to be a key player, but like you say, could add something to the squad.

No. He's a fucking cunt. You can't defend him by saying £5k per week blah blah blah... Family blahdy blah.
He's on £5,000 a week and taking this piss out of us. He will be attacked and hounded out of this club and rightly so. He could've always just got a job like the rest of us if he wanted a steady income whilst looking for a new club.

But how could his family have survived without another season of 5k per week?

If he would've gone somewhere on only 2 or 3k per week their lives would've been miserable.

Please, just think of his children.

Apparently it's 5k p/w for one year.

If so, then it could've been worse.
I seriously doubt that.

If it is, and when no club comes in for him, he will get his £250k and paid off in full. Be worth it !!

But as I say, unless he has taken a 60 odd percent pay cut, I seriously doubt it.
