Another 40 positive Covid cases in PL !

I watched The Big Match at weekend from 1975, Alfie Conn was playing for Spurs and got kicked from pillar to post by Leicester. He just got up had a few stern words with someone, if that was one of today's players he'd be down 45 minutes.
 



The infection rate is very high, which makes sense, however given that there are 500 named squad players in the premier league, at this rate virtually all will have contracted it pretty soon.

I accept all cases are individual but I am 50 and felt off it for two days, when I had it last month. Given symptoms are linked to general health, the recovery rate for the majority of footballers should be better than average.

In a few weeks it will probably be a non issue, they’ll just ride this storm as best they can. The enforced FA Cup break helps too.
 
The first thing cancelled will be the Euros. Not the other way around.

U-50s not getting vaccine to 2022. There's no way there will be full stadiums but I assume there will be crowds next season.
 
If the Club came out and said the cancelling the season would ruin it financially, how many of you would still be desperate to end it?
 
On Tonights press conference Chris Whity said we will probably have to have restrictions every winter as cases spike to protect the NHS. He has just killed the Xmas party season and many hospitality venues who make the money in December that keeps them going until the summer will now fold.

Football will now also have to seriously consider moving to a summer season, March to October, as it seems inevitable we will be excluded from grounds, Or have seriously reduced capacity, every November to February. I remember my Grandad telling me about how they used to have games on Xmas day.. I think we will now be telling our own grandchildren about how there used to be games on Boxing Day In the same way.

That's not accurate.
If you're paying higher wages, it's because you have additional funding outside to what everybody else has.

TV money contributes as a greater % to the players salaries at this club, than your Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester, Spurs, Wolves etc.


That's why Parachute payments are so important, the sides at the lower end of the table are more reliant on the TV money than others....
Especially those who haven't been in the league for a prolonged period.

He didn't. He said there may possibly be restrictions this Winter.

The conditions of the bubbles which PL sides are in, make Covid much easier to spread.
These people are not going to be vaccinated in the next 12 months anyway, and probably never, so spreading it this way is actually safer for the wider public.


It's when the players break their bubble rules, that the problem begins.

I bet they will be vaccinated within the next few weeks as private medical companies buy up does of the vaccine as well

That's an interesting point. If it was null and voided there may be a much stronger case for sacking Wilder - at present next season in the Championship is inevitable, but if there was a fresh start, faith in CW to keep us in the Prem will be diminished where a new face might do a better job. I doubt it'll happen though and I think I'd rather keep CW and go through this again than lose him.

I sincerely hope you are wrong. I don't see why, after the country has been vaccinated and we are on top of any required annual boosters, that football (or any other event with mass gatherings) cannot return to normal. While the risk may not go away, if the risk is very low due to vaccines, it should be accepted by society, as he alluded to.

Though the vaccine neither prevents you from catching Covid or spreading it.
It merely gives your immune system a boost hopefully preventing you from ending up in intensive care.

I imagine there are plenty of them more than willing to take it if it means their mullti-million pound livelihoods are maintained.

I've had Covid and I didnt go into intensive care and I didnt have the vaccine I think it does a bit more than what you have said. Problem is no one knows for sure if you spread it or not but its being seen as the answer so it probably does do more than you think.

(btw it was touch and go at one point I wouldnt wish Covid on anyone it is horrid)

Even so still benefit players.

It will eventually just become like the flu. Except all ages will be vaccinated until it gets to a point where our bodies cope with it but might take years. Its why I think War of the Worlds has got a lot going for it. No bloody alien would survive on planet earth with all the germs our bodies can cope with :)

Not really. All Premier League footballers are being tested regularly. We aren’t testing the whole country. The majority of testing is still for people who are actually displaying symptoms. So it’s not really a fair comparison.
 
A matter of time before professional sport across the board is suspended. Too many positive tests now resulting in games off, this is piling up fixtures to breaking point plus some players are suffering from long covid. If the Euros are going to go ahead this summer I can't see this season finishing.
