Just a thought.....we could already have a central defender in McBurnie, the trick is to find a decent forward to take his place.
Just my take IIYB, but for me McBurnie would be too "emotional" for a CH, he'd give away shit loads of pens. Plus I don't think he's quick enough.

I'll give you that he's excellent on headed clearances though.

Is it possible Wilder wants to build his own squad and certain players don't fit into his mindset ?
If that is the case (and why wouldn't it be, every manager wants to build his own team), then I would do two things,
Move on the players the manager doesn't want, and in Wilders case give him a longer contract for him to build his team and see where it takes us. I f we let Wilder go after his eighteen month contract ends we end up getting a new manager who wants to build "his" team and do it goes on. Stability is what works not continually changing managers and players.

I will never be able to wrap my head around people suggesting that McBurnie would make a decent defender, which I can only assume is because he's half decent at heading away set pieces. Let me categorically state (agreeing with you here I think LM) that McBurnie is not, and will never be, a centre half at anything above Sunday league level. He lacks the defensive positional awareness, acceleration, reactions, tackling and physicality required.

Everything points to losing Ndiaye, which isn’t only at the Prince’s door.

Everything seems to have been planned around him, and his departure meltdown is with no plan B. That is at the Prince’s door.

Ndiaye should’ve been told before preseason, here’s a fat contract, you’ve got a week to think it over, stay or go, but choose quickly so we can plan without you.

Instead we’re back tracking and feeling the effects still after half the season, thereby creating our own set of issues.

Or we should have had Archer ready to go in case Ndiaye left instead of letting things drift until the end of August, and having to start Osula and Little Bennie for 3 matches.

Sounds great in hindsight but the #1 goal of this summer was to keep him. Take it or leave it offers when you don't hold the control will just drive him out and that is not what we wanted.

Agree mate - but be careful, you'll be called a PIG ,or something else insulting, because you don't clap like fk and have the audacity to criticise what`s in front of our faces.

Imagine how we look to others who are looking in at us - another high profile (in Utd terms) player being moving on - this time, with 2 years left on his contract , we cant even use the excuse that we have to cash in because his contract is up.

I think there’s a strong argument that we need to crack on with building the core for the next squad a group of players that the club and manager envisage being stalwarts for the next 3-5 years and hopefully longer if things go well.

If Anel’s sale facilitates that then fair enough but it can’t be like the summer where it’s a like for like situation of two big sales two big signings (not counting Archer as that outlay is contingent on staying up). We have too many old and out of contract players for that.

There’s a difference between what we want and what we need.

Want - Ndiaye to stay and build around him.

Need - A back up plan going into preseason in case the want doesn’t happen.

We’ve put all our eggs into the want basket so that we’ve neglected the need. That’s down to Ndiaye fucking is about.

Hence the need to say here’s your deadline son, as we need to plan for you either being here or not.

And as LM rightly pointed out , the emotional stability to perform well when under pressure which is most of the time if you are a central defender for SUFC .

Isn't Anel under contract until 2027?

If so, we decide whether he leaves or not, it doesn't matter what his dad says.

To say we got him for 4 million in instalments, would be an interesting move for him not to be sold for that price.

If they were in for Dragusin they clearly have money to spend on a CB, because he was expensive

So there could be hope for a decent fee, but 17m seems fanciful

If we can get anywhere near that, we should not waste this opportunity, this month

He could be replaced for considerably less, and we lack other assets we can bring similar money in for

we will and should accept it if its 17m i think with the interest in mepham and holgate it certainly looks like were willing to sell

Holgate can't get into championship team and Mepham has started 2 out of 20 games this season..

If we get 17 mill for Anel (think will end up lower than that) we should be targeting players of better quality than those 2!

Given he seems to want to leave, hasn’t been playing well and there’s a near certain chance we will be back in the Championship next season (and his value will reduce), if they are offering £17m I’d take it, ensuring we have some sell on clauses etc. in there.

The key of course is using that money to bring in a replacement and maybe another player, with that money and it not just disappearing into the ether.

Credit to Princey where credits due

He may not be rolling in cash but he's been pretty good at allowing sales to be reinvested into new signings.

Both small centre backs who aren’t great in the air. Crap scouting to be sure.
