There are none so blind as those who will not see.

We’re at the point where wilder has returned the club to the point he found it. Fans divided, no love for the team, hate the board, players either cant be arsed or are looking for the quickest way out. Those of us that have been around a while have seen it all before.

Wilder’s legacy won’t be the amazing run to the premier league, it’ll be turning us into the world’s biggest pub team.
You may be right , you may be wrong ? - but Wilders legacy will always be the 2017 - 2019/20 seasons .

What he did was unbelievable totally unbelievable. The proudest I have been to be a Blade since 1970 - 75 .

Wilder is and will always be a legend - maybe he is past it 🥱 but his legacy is undisputed- surely

It has been mentioned that Brookes was inconsistent last season.
Well, can anyone tell who was consistent last season?? Consistently good i mean!!

Sam Mcallum is the only one who vaguely comes to mind.

Agreed although might be a generation thing, the scary thing is those that have now just reached legal drinking age were 8 years old when Wilder first became our manager. 10 years is a long time in football and especially because of the Covid era which feels like a lifetime ago people do forget. But like anything there has to be a handover plan otherwise you end up appointing people like David Weir and Kevin Blackwell etc

The thing with this for me is have we just done it with no replacement lined up...wilder keeps banging on about experience..does this rule clearly out at barnsley ...don't rate chong myself he,s had one good game derby away..hope it's not a loan it just weakens us long term...do we have a plan? I don't know..it's just a fuckin farce at minute.

Mate Norwich fan and ex pro messaged me last night
apparently the consensus over there is we are mad and they don’t get why we let him go they just don’t understand it - he’s been unbelievable so far
It can only be assumed that we had to sell by the end of June( rather than wait for a better offer) due to the large drop in income for this season and to provide additional cashflow for the club

It's a sale you make when you have no other choice, it has to be done or bills won't get paid.

All the other noises about why it happened are bollocks, unless the manager just didn't like the individual and was happy to see him go

That would only be relevant if we absolutely needed to bring funds in during the financial year where we had parachute payments as opposed to the one where we didn't. Which would be completely backwards and never the actual case.

I don’t think anyone can reasonably say otherwise.

But as for the here and now, the near future, I’ve got some concerns but also would say a lot of these concerns are wider than whoever is the manager

I get that the point is you sell to a mid table rival ??
There were more clubs interested three premier league clubs just seems the club got a good offer and wanted him out quick or the players agent did

A combo of needing the money and the manager wanting rid woukd make that acceptable?

And wage demands which meant that it was sensible to cash in now
It's the same argument as Ndiaye. Wage demands aren't a thing until the contract expires so the choice is what is more valuable, the player for the season + the compensation for him leaving due to him coming through the academy or the cash now? Also, if United actually wanted him they'd have paid him with a view to selling him for a larger fee next summer.

The "he wanted paying so we had to sell him stuff" isn't a reason on it's own, otherwise players would move every summer.

United have decided Norwich have overpaid for him, and that he's not going to improve, despite showing huge improvement last season and being the only route to starting attacks. We'll see 🤷‍♂️

I'd disagree on that because we have to meet financial restrictions this season, so it doesn't make sense to break the pay structure when we can also cash in now

The worst thing about it is that we’ve seemingly replaced him yet another youth loan player, so we’ll spend the season improving a player we can’t afford and end up next summer with another gap in the first 11 we won’t have the funds to upgrade.

If Norwich can afford to pay him what he wanted then so could we. The only reasons to sell him is that we needed the cash before financial year end and/or the manager doesn’t rate him. He was one of our better players last season, he’s an academy product and local lad and we don’t have an issue paying over the top wages for the likes of Hamer. O’Hare, Campbell, McGuiness, Chong. Matos or Cannon, but won’t do the same for One Of Our Own(tm)?

So the choice becomes:

Sell now, bank the money but (at least in my opinion) downgrade at the position and remove the only athletic attacker

Keep on the same contract and have an above average Championship attacker (who has improved substantially already), but lose for a small fee next summer but retain the value he adds this season

Sign to a new deal, on a wage less than Hamer and O'Hare with a view that if his improvement continues, the fee would be 50% or more higher next summer, plus the value of this seasons performances

I think the 1st option makes sense if the admission is that this season is one of consolidation only, or the club thinks £9m is a huge overpay.

I think the club have decided they don't like him, either as a player, a person or both and have decided £9m is a huge overpay for him and they can replace him through a committee of Chong, Seriki, Donovan and a free agent yet to be signed.

I disagree but, we'll find out 🤷‍♂️

It’s only an overpay if you can replace him for less. I don’t see anyone buying a player with similar ability or potential for less than £9m.

If I was United, and a team like Norwich who are funded on their continued ability to improve players and sell for a huge profit wanted your your PL level athlete, good technically 22yo who needs refinement for £9m, I'd think "they see a £20m+ player here, are we getting mugged off?"

Unless there's an acceptance that United lack the patience , imagination and coaching ability to improve him?

For all the bleating and woe is us losing Mussaba, Gassama and Bannan, this is merely because they had the need enforced upon them.

We’ve had it by a thousand cuts many times over. Can’t remember many stories of outrageous sales by them. Plenty of hanging on and not selling because they thought they were bigger than they are. Pretty sure they could have cashed in on David Hirst at one point with Man U even interested. Went in the end diminished by injuries rather than for a big fee.

We’ve had Deane/Fjortoft, the two Kyles, the summer of Sander/Iliman, David Brooks, André Brooks and there will be others.

But the lights are still on and the begging bowls are not out.

We’ll still be competitive even if we have to have something old and something borrowed this year.

I think that's a post more about player trading and accepting your place in the hierarchy than whether the Brooks sale was financially required, desirable to the club/manager or both.

The issue is, was this specific sale the right financial move for the club? We're there other options? What does losing this player mean for the upcoming season etc

If you offer a new deal on affordable terms and they won't sign you cash in once they reach the last two years - unless the offer is ridiculous. In this case a couple of million. It's as simple as that. Why the club keeps letting its biggest assets enter the last two years of their deals is another, more serious matter. If you don't restock your shelves you run out of assets to sell. I don't see much restocking going on.

We needed around ten players in for this season. The management made it abundantly clear they wanted them in early to monster them ready for the opening games so last year's fitness issues weren't repeated. So far we have one with less than a month to go before the opener and several pre season games already gone.

I think the question I'd like to know is, does this cover everything we need or do we need to sell anyone else?
I guess that we don't have to sell anyone, but its whether selling others like Peck or Hamer will be sensible to maximise the money we can bring in for them

Episode 1,000 of "understaff your off field operations and find it almost impossible to do anything quickly or focus on more than one thing at once"

As fans. We don't know the calculation.

It an hour's job for Bettis to do a spreadsheet based on wages, value, income, ffp rules.
Show which combinations can stay if Player X leaves, and what budget is left for incomings.

Then it's a simple take your pick for Wilder.
