what if you think Pemberton is the right option?

Personally I don't think he's ready, managing youth team players is a different kettle of fish to taking charge of adult players. If he gets the job then all the best to him, I sincerely hopes he proves that its easier to do than I think.

Bollocks... McCabe please leave Pemberton with the kids to carry on the good work. We need a proven manager now more than ever, no more appointing from within because even if Pemberton given terms to match any Championship manager he'd still be seen by some as the cheap option and we start in the same fucking place we always do with half the fans against the manager from the start.

Right now I don't care. What a ridiculous day!

I just hope the next man is cheap because I can see another snap decision and 4 managers in a season coming again

No. Please no. We appoint Pemberton and we fuck up the first team, the academy lads and the academy in one fell swoop. A disaster.

I was looking forward to next season I'm not anymore, I have no faith in the board or Kevin McCabe to make a good decision.

Egil Olsen? Those wellies will help him trudge out of the shit he'd find himself in!!

"How about a rookie appointment... say a Scholes or a Giggs...we've sunk low enough to be someones idea of a starter club for management experience."

Speed anyone?

Funnily enough, i'm looking forward to next season even more now. Of course those hopes will be quickly dashed should McCabe line up one of the usual suspects...

Dare I throw Zola into the mix? Absolutely no idea on what kind of wage he'd be on, or how he'd do. But good footballing philosophy. Porbably not enough grit to go with it though?

i was at a 50th birthday over the easter wknd and pembo was there, i didnt really speak to him as i didnt want to bother the bloke, but the host of the party has spoke to him alot about us, and him replacing adams is a no go apparrently. number 1 he apparently doesnt want the job and number 2 the club want him to keep to the youth side.

its poor media chat and obvious favourite from a bookies point of view given our success with fa youth cup and finishing 2nd in the league.

i like the sound of having a dutch manager, just for the accent. i would love someone young, and ambitious, im sick of has been with distinctly average cv's for the 15 or so years they've been in management.

If you want young and ambitious then Karl Robinson's your man. Trouble is he'd cost 'cos he only signed a new three year contract a couple of weeks ago.
He knows the division and has got MK Dons into a strong 5th place with no money.
He has some very good contacts in the game having come up through the Liverpool network and he and number two John Gorman make an excellent team.

It's time to take a punt. Just not any fucker who's been on the managerial merry-go-round. Young and with something to prove would do me. But who? No. Freakin'. Idea.

It'll be Pembo I reckon. Having said that, I have to admit that if we had any chance of getting Di Matteo I'd snap someone's hand off.

Steve McLaren it is then?

Maybe the thinking is that the academy team and the first team will be one and the same thing so it is a cost reduction exercise and Pembo will have to do it all on his tod.

I reckon it will be Pemberton purely for the fact he is the cheap option and that he has experience with the kids. I think we will rely heavily on them next season which I honestly don't think will be a good thing. Chuck a few in yes, and get a couple in and around the first team but lets not put everything on them.

I wouldn't mind seeing Di Matteo at the Lane but I don't think it would interest him, I don't consider us being an attractive name to managers like that. Lets hope it's cleared up soon though.

I think it will be Pembo and although I think he might do a good job, it could be to the detriment of our academy. I would leave him where he is, all things considered.

Calling Pembo the cheap option

We've just sacked a manager with a long term contract and even if he did have a clause (which I doubt), it will have cost some cash to get rid.

Keeping Micky Adams was the cheap option. We didn't go for it.

Anybody who likes a bet should try Houghton, who was sacked from Newcastle. Just been told by good source.

Hughton might not be a bad shout. I don't think he really stamped his personality on Newcastle, rather that he gave some senior players their heads, running the team by a kind of consensus. It was perfect for them in their position at the time but I don't think it would work for us right now. If he's flexible in his approach, who knows? He certainly fits the bill in being reasonably young, ambitious and with a point to prove. I'd give him a go.

Would like Keith Hill or Di Matteo. I expect Pemberton because he's the cheap option. However I learned many years ago never to be surprised at whatever happens with Blades, so I've voted for The PG Tips Monkey :shakehead:

Maybe we should go Jockanese.

Paul Lambert and Billy Davies seem to be getting things right and there are at least 5 managers in the Prem that will have worn plaid. Dalgleish, Fergie, Moyes, Keen, Coyle.

Managers need to have some conviction, steely resolve and be hard b'tards from time to time. Maybe that's why those hardy Haggis bashers are disproportionately successful.

Any suggestions out there?

Derek McInnes has been mentioned elsewhere.

My concern is that McCabe has taken control of the appointment process. Now, going on his modus operadi, there are two factors he uses to choose a manager:

a) is he a Blade or a from Blade background (Warnock / Adams / Blackwell)
b) is he high profile (Robson / Speed)

I worry with that in mind that he won't (forgive the cliche), think a little bit outside of the box.

It would certainly be surprise if the appointment wasn't one of...

- Pembo
- Wilder
- Slade

I wouldn't rule out Di Matteo. I am sure he was in the running for the Brentford job. Maybe old Kevin was on the train to meet Roberto in London... cough
