Ampadu

Agree, he has to get a look in ahead of Robinson.

I like Jack, seems like a decent kid and clearly Wilder rates him but he is becoming a bit of a liability at times.

That being said he played well after conceding the penalty today. We got a bit lucky, but he did his bit to keep us in the game.

It's this obsession with balance which is the problem. It's obvious that Ampadu should play there. If Egan stays fit and unsuspended then he's just going to be on our bench. I'm sure that not beneficial for anyone.

I still think Enda and Lowe should be the first choice but Robinson is not a premier league standard player.

It's a shame what happened to Lowe first half, having to resort to bringing on Robinson (who I think is a liability). Either we need to go with Enda again if Lowe is ok, or try something else with Ampadu in there.

I've no idea why we've brought him in tbh. Seems to be wilder just wanted cover for Egan. Wilder's obsession with 'rigidity'.

Jack Robinson prevented a cross in the second half, where there were 2 strikers queuing up to finish..

Our precious and incredibly lucky point was gone if that great bit of defending hadn't occurred....
You’re absolutely right, but it’s also his job to do that.

I do like Robinson’s qualities and he’s obviously so committed but you do feel he’s going to drop a bollock at any time. The decision to punch the ball today was horrific.

95% of defenders from league 1 up would have dealt with that and they also might not have tried to play basket ball in our area

Not sure Enda is tje answer to any question at the minute...his legs look to have gone

Osborne was signed as a left wing back and that’s his best position. Can we recall Luke Freeman? If so we should go with:-

LCB - Stevens, Robinson as backup
LWB - Osborne/Lowe open competition
LCM - Fleck, Freeman as backup

I thought Robinson played quite well. He defended a couple of crosses very well late in the second half.

He gave away the penalty but I assume he was trying to pull RLC down by the shoulder. It wasn’t quite a McEverly handball.

Robinson just doesn’t have the propensity to get forward like JOC does. I think Ampadu would naturally want to get forward, but he isn’t left footed. Stevens would also know how/when to push on if he was LCB.

There is a consensus that our ‘system’ makes us more than the sum of our parts. Yet we seem to be giving up so much of that system to accommodate Robinson.

Robinson is a liability, I think. Seems to make at least one big error, each game.

Problem with Robinson is the difference between a good day and a bad day is so huge.

If JOC has a bad day, we can still get a clean sheet, his passes might be crap or he might give away a few corners needlessly.

If Robinson has a bad day, you're looking at penalties, red cards, goals conceded.

When he's playing well he offers a lot, he gets in reasonable positions and can play some great balls in, but when his mind wanders he makes you wish we hadn't bought him.

A few harsh comments on here. Robinson was brought in as left sided back up. Players make mistakes, but it's not as though United are shipping loads of goals. Ampadu can play centre or right of the defence, so covering Egan or Bash. He will be required at some point this season.

Because a season is 38 games, not 5?
Of course he wanted cover for Egan (and Basham), because there wasn't any of the required standard.
Also can play midfield, which is also light.

Wilder is annoying me a bit in this way, cos he is all about balance hence Stevens starting at LCB over Ampadu. Yet Lunny is allowed to start at LCM. Can't have it both ways our Chris

Robinson doesn't get forward well enough and his long throws are a complete waste of time as no one seems to attack them. He is fairly solid defensively but he needs to offer us more going forward.

I'd like to try Ampadu in that position.

He was signed as a central midfielder.

Osborn has settled there post-restart, and while he may have subbed on in midfield early on, his early stints where he started were at LWB – all 5 of his 5 cup appearances were at LWB. He was our only other option in that position other than Stevens and was signed initially to be first backup for there, and second add to the midfield options. It was in fact Freeman’s injury right at the point Fleck was out that created the opening, as Wilder had said that Freeman had been due to start.

Wilder when he signed: “Ben is an intelligent footballer, he plays a number of positions and has got that attitude that he will slot in wherever.”
