If he leaves
When he is sacked
Who shall we have next.

Now is not the time boys & girls.

Yes the season has been a frustration.
Yes we should be putting teams like Yeovil to the Sword.
Yes we should be at least challenging for a top 2 spot.

BUT, and like the wife's its a big but, WE HAVE NO DIVINE RIGHT TO EXPECT OUR CLUB TO BE PROMOTED BY CHRISTMAS JUST COS WE ARE SUFC !

Let us not forget that NC inherited a club and a squad that was frankly on its arse due to years of mismanagement. That kind of tidy up job was never gonna happen overnight.

Factor in the utterly dominant campaign that Bristol City have had, and that they will be worthy champions, we were effectively fighting for one Auto spot. A tall order.

Have faith. Assuming we do get over the line to make the play offs, lets just wait and see if we can go on to that elusive Wembley win. I think / pray this might just be our year !!

It really is time to get behind the management and the players in this final push. Any negativity will NOT help. Being positive and supportive will. I know its not always easy.

If it doesn't happen, feel free to have a moan.

But cut it the fuck out for the time being eh.. !!!!!

Now is not the time boys & girls.

Correct, a couple of months ago (at least) was the time, but we're stuck with him now. Hopefully the board got it right and my opinions on Clough are wrong.

OK, I'll bite.

Firstly, nobody expects us to be 'promoted by Christmas'.

Also why is it unreasonable to expect us to be utterly dominant like Bristol City have been? Everyone seems to forget they finished much much lower than us last season, yet they smashed the league this season. I don't see it unreasonable that a 'bigger' club with more support should expect to do the same. In fact, it's even more reasonable to expect us to be AT LEAST challenging for the automatic spots alongside the League one juggernauts which are Preston, Swindon and MK Dons.

I also find the notion of 'let's be positive and get behind the lads' making the team somehow perform to a better standard just as ridiculous as suggesting negativity puts dampeners on the team. How often, particularly in the early season, were the blades dreadful in the first half, booed off and half time then put in a better second half performance. Who's to say the booing didn't make the difference?

I think delusional blind faith is as damaging as negativity. Just as those people at the start of the season slated me and others for suggesting we hadn't recruited as well as Bristol City. Some fans will claim their team is the best without properly assessing it and watching with rose-tinted glasses.

In some ways I harbour hope that we actually don't get promoted. Seems daft, and I don't properly mean it but let me explain.... This has been the most depressing season in memory. Filled with so much hope last May, we have ended up a boring, disjointed one-dimensional side. Promotion seasons are meant to be fun. You look back in years to come and say 'oh what a season that was'. Considering that if we fluke promotion this year, we would be light years away from getting out of the championship (in the right direction) I'd rather we waited here until we had a proper promotion season, where we smash teams every week and play free-flowing football. Let's face it, the 90 point season was so much more enjoyable than this year whether we end up promoted or not!

So Ye, if we lose to Bradford in going to boo. They've got nothing to play for, they're a shocking team and I live and work in Bradford. So quite frankly, I'll be fecking livid.

You know that when he is sacked and we get a new manager certain posters on here will crawl from under their stones and state our much improved style, form and results were all due to the foundations Clough put in place, much in the same way they explain Derby County's upturn in fortunes with McClaren.
Load of bollocks he had five seasons at Derby and only managed to get them in the top ten of the championship once, Clough is average at best if he is still with us next season it will be a disaster for the club. Lets hope we have a new young dynamic manager in place well before next season, the thought of us with Clough still scratching about in league one and the pigs going for a play off spot to the Premiership next season are truly frightening.

Unbelievable. If we go up this season it will mean we have won at Wembley. It will mean I have watched us win at Wembley with my old man and thousands of other Blades. It will mean we have watched our team lift a trophy at Wembley. That hasn't happened for nearly a century. It might never happen again in our lifetimes. Clearly we'll all look back on that and think, what a miserable way to go up. Typical Sheffield negativity if ever I saw it. Words fail me.

..maybe hang on a bit and see whether Nigel fail's to get us promoted?
Plenty of time to drive him out if that scenario occurs...

Just reflect where we were when David Weir departed. If Last season Cloughie had given us mid table security without the FA Cup semi final and then this season given us a play off spot with a league cup semi final appearance I am sure most on here would've been delighted with that.

He is now suffering from being a victim of his early success.

I actually don't think that's the problem.

The problem is, win lose or draw, the football is generally sh1te.

Season ticket renewed so I must be a glutton for it ;)

One day we WILL win at Wembley ... ;)

Well the 90 point season was my favourite season in my life apart from the 05/06 season. I will look back on that more fondly than this season regardless of outcome.

Wouldn't Nigel be happier back at Burton, where he had his most successful time ?;). We could do a straight swap for their manager JFH who seems to have settled into management well.

It's funny that when fans express doubts about our performance this season, the stock reply is usually:

WE HAVE NO DIVINE RIGHT TO EXPECT OUR CLUB TO BE PROMOTED BY CHRISTMAS JUST COS WE ARE SUFC !

No one, absolutely no one who supports United has an illusions about our 'divine right'. Quite the opposite. On Saturday 20k of us delusionals will once again attend. There won't be anybody in the stadium whose fucking grandfather has seen us win owt. So let's drop this 'just because we're United' bollocks.

We have every reason to expect promotion this season based on crowds, resources, money spent, infrastructure, size of squad, academy, catchment area, investment etc.

Nothing to do with any 'divine right'.

Oh, and

Factor in the utterly dominant campaign that Bristol City have had, and that they will be worthy champions, we were effectively fighting for one Auto spot. A tall order.

Hasn't stopped Preston pushing them all the way. Or were they 'utterly dominant' as well?

United could have done what Bristol have done. United should have done what Bristol have done.

The problem is Boss that we have a number of spoilt impatient fans who want success now or they will jump up and down like children. Clough is building and is only 18 months into a 3 year plan ,which everyone agreed was the best idea no matter what. Everytime we lose or even draw a game the same old faces come out with Clough out ,we are a joke ,get somebody else in who has won a couple of games in a row ,it is pathetic. They all disappeared up their arse for a week when we beat Donny and Barnsley ,but unfortunately whoever is in charge they will pipe up about sacking the manager everytime things don't suit them. Its not just us its most other clubs too ,even some Arsenal fans want Wenger out ffs. It is a sign of the times with forums and phone ins ,a little power goes a long way and the ones who want change wont let it go , just bleat on and on so it appears they are in the majority Look at the post above ,he wants a manager who has taken over a winning established team from a good manager and had just over half a season plus a season in the Belgian second division where he lost as many as he won. He drew at home to Carlisle last night surely a sacking offence at the Lane ?
It really is a joke ,why not get behind the manager and the team as we go into the play offs although apparently some don't even want us to go up. I honestly do wish 'fans' like that would go elsewhere.

I would give him another year even if we don't go up this year. As Sitwell says it is a three year plan and I don't think 18 months then change again and everyone out is the way forward
Has he made mistakes no doubt. Is he frustrating with chopping and changing the team, yes

But I would guess that outside the automatic promotion places in the football leagues a fair number of fans are disgruntled with there managers for not getting them there instantly.

New playing surface next year for our little dwarfs to zip the ball about round the giant ogres of league one, or the championship hopefully, more points gained at the lane and up we will go.

Bottom line is lets give him a chance to rectify the errors and deficiencies in the squad not rip up the whole plan and playing squad and start again. It doesn't tend to work

that's looking like a big IF atm mate.. that's what these people are worried about

When you look at our recent history in the last 21 years we have had as many seasons in the sun as Barnsley ........................ YES fucking Barnsley. Anyone aged less than 25 would not remember United in the top flight except for one season with Colin, yet we still get the usual suspects saying be patient we are a work in progress blah blah same owd same owd. It might be ok to say that to fans aged 10 year old but when you talk to fans who have more than 50 years supporting United it is a bit of a joke to say be patient isn't fifty odd fucking years long enough to wait to see United win something other than division four, PHUCK ME ! Maybe we should install comfy chairs on the south stand so a certain section could sit close to Nigel and relax while they watch the world pass us by.

Some will also look at his record at Derby in the Championship and come to the conclusion that maybe he can't cut it. 5 years with seemingly little progress and how long have we been waiting for success through how many managers.

I want success now but then I have been waiting for decades! ;)

Notwithstanding these thoughts, he should be given until December at the very least if we don't go up, and a full season if we do.

NC has my backing, yes it's been a topsy-turvy season so far but I do believe he and the team will pull it off this season but that has to include the fans, we have to carry on and play our part, next season in the championship he then has to build a team to compete, I am sure some of our players are worried that if we are promoted they will be out the door.

That's not the point. I know it's a big IF but he basically said he would prefer a defeat at Wembley, as to win there and gain promotion would not be satisfying, as it has not come off the back of a spectacular free scoring season. Seriously if some fans have that mentality what's the point in supporting a football team?

The other post says 50 years ,so are we only prepared to give clough 3% of that time ? in which he has taken a losing team destined for disaster to top half of the table and 2 semi finals whilst culling ,replacing and rebuilding the club ? This has been our problem Basset and Warnock were allowed patience and time to build the team they wanted and we blossomed ,Clough should be given the same. As for Derby ,much of his time there was a firefight after players were sold off time and again ,it is unfair to compare.

Many of my family are Derby fans, they say that mclaren has to be the luckiest manager in football. When Clough was sacked Derby were playing fairly well and had it not been forest who beat them he would have stayed. I honestly could scream at all these people who feel that 1 and a half seasons is plenty of "time" to build a team, this has been an incredibly frustrating season I know but after the last decade of changing manager and it always going from bad to worse I for one would like to see a manager given real time to build something

There might be some truth in the players mind and mentality . How many of the players if we are in the championship or still in league 1 , would find a better club than SUFC if shown the door by the club , and moved on to pastures new .With the training facilities , ground , salaries - None of them IMO.

Bassett went out and bought about ten new players in the close season of the relegation from division two and had them up and running, dominating the league on day one. Then he kept the spine of the team all the way through divison two and into the premier league. There's no comparison to be made with him in terms of having to be patient. Bristol City have just done what Bassett did. To compare what Clough is doing to what Bassett achieved in division three just isn't justifiable.

Warnock, granted, was a model of how to build a good team over a long period.

It really isn't a settled issue about whether Clough is building anything at all. We have a massive squad but appear to have gone backwards in many ways.

I'm in the '50+ years' of watching the Blades. More importantly to me is my dad's in his nineties, he'll be at BDTBL on Saturday as per usual and he says 'keep backing Nigel'

If he can remain patient then so can I.
