I take a very benign view. If he's come high up the list of who we want, United will have to explore a number of things. Does he want to come? How much will he cost? What will we have to sort out with his current club? Will he get a work permit? If he's high up our list, we're probably still exploring those things. Or, he might not be on our list.

Perhaps we can play our home matches in Belgium ? Would that bring this tedious thread to an end ?

Excellent suggestion. Of course, any player moving to a French Club would need to qualify for a French Work Permit. For which, of course there are detailed rules & criteria. But, we knew that right.....

I had a DM "Chat" with two football journalists/fans from Kerala, India in the week. I can't really say I got much sense out of them. But, they were both really excited because they felt Sheffield United's money was going to be invested in Kerala United & used to power up their success. I tried to take them down the path of - was there a worry about changing the club's name, colours, town, etc & that their best players would just be moved on when they didn't want them to go. But, tbh, didn't get past the Rupee signs racking up in their eyes. Might put the feelers out to France in the near future.

Honestly SEB, I think I we weren’t aware of this and now they’re aware it’s stopped them in their tracks. I genuinely believe they assumed he would qualify and were ignorant to the need for an endorsement.

As for everyone saying we can find a way around the rules if you really want to, that's how you end up with points deductions and transfer bans. We're the very model of a club that won't get away with it.

It’s only a hunch but we seemed full steam ahead and then nothing. We haven’t reached out to Howe or Jankanovic either so I think we believed we had our preferred candidate.
Just as many on here were surprised that we just can’t do it, just as we’re the press, I think those making up the shortlist may have not seen it as an issue until it became clear it was.
Just a hunch mind.

It’s definitely a possibility. The optimist in me hopes the delay is because we’ve reached out to the relevant authorities to request making an exceptional request case, and it’s under review.

Rather than risk winding them up by appointing him whilst they are in the middle of a tight run in.

I’m not concerned about a lack of appointment yet, but that said it would be nice to give the new manager 4/5 games to assess the team and squad before he has to make any summer signings...
