If the club is planning on being 'sustainable' (whatever that means) then the plan has to be to always have expenditure be below income. Unless there's going to be investment, a new owner, borrowing against capital assets then I'm struggling to see how having players under contract at the wages required to get players good enough to challenge next season is possible in Y3 - obviously promotion changes everything
Depends on who gets sold.

Very unlikely. But 2 or 3 of them might be reaching their optimum value around then.
I know, was being a bit flippant. Sustainability outside getting promoted before the parachute payments run out is producing/signing players and selling them at huge mark ups. Incredibly difficult to pull off so getting promoted has to be the priority

It is not easy, but the number of people here that think we should not even try is absurd

I agree. I think we are a couple of years away from potentially being able to bring in some decent fees. But that’s going to be a fortuitous one off, certainly not something that can be relied upon for the long term, and no realistic chance of ever being able to rely on it to any remotely sensible degree until we can upgrade the academy to Cat 1.

I'd prefer he sold up but if he doesn't, he's got 2 years to get a staff in place who can consistently find value players, nurture and improve them and then sell them on. The current structure relies too heavily on individual exceptionalism.

Certainly difficult to see how building and then funding another site can be paid for from current revenue forecasts

I heard a worrying rumour of this being the case.

That we will be selling players to fund this. I hope it’s not true.

I don't think the midfield enforcer is a priority but for that sort of defensive option in there I'd go for McNair, who although mainly for CB could split positional duties between there and midfield

Lewis Travis is also one I'd consider, probably going to leave Blackburn and he's the sort of leader Wilder will want and the sort we'll need considering who we'll be losing. He's good in all defensive aspects, a bit of a shithouse and is a tidy if unspectacular footballer. Like McNair, can play RCB too
I think Ipswich will sign Travis permanently

Somewhere where they play with wingers?
Not convinced he's championship quality but yeah that could help him. I remember watching one of the youth games a few years back where he caught my eye in a more attacking role but tbh I was slightly confused by people raving about him before Wilder rightly dropped him

We need to be realistic, we cannot expect Arblaster and Brookes to play every game, they will have drops in form and will also require some games off for a rest, our signings have to reflect this. We need a physical presence for those hard Tuesday mid winter away games and to see games out if others a flagging. No disrespect but we can't be bringing on a Norwood or Osbourne to do this.
