Matos would make a lot of sense as the Iroegbunham alternative a good age with good pedigree, previous England youth international did well at Oxford last year. Young player with a good background on an upward trajectory would make a lot of sense and it’s the type of signing Brentford and others made a lot of on their way up.

Just watched some footage. Think - a slightly more mobile young Nick Montgomery. Lethal in the challenge - offers very little with the ball. Could be useful in certain scenarios, but not overly excited about him.

If we're signing Chong to play RW, Mee for CB, then it probably will be Matos as the final loanee.

I'm not sure if we'll make any signings beyond that?

We'll have 2 GKs, 2 RBs, 4 CBs, 2 LBs, 2 DMs, 4 CMs, 1 LW, 2 RWs, 4 CFs (2 that can also play off LW).

If this was to happen, id expect a relatively modest transfer fee for a permanent deal, with a low buy back option for Chelsea and a high percentage sell on clause inserted. I think that wpuld work for both clubs and its looks better on Chelsea's balance sheet re the FFP stuff.

The sticking point to the above scenario and why it might go down the loan option after all, would be the lads wages. Chelsea will have him on a very inflated contract even as a youngster (remember Jamal Blackman and his contract level) and he might have to compromise on his wages if he wants to have a permanent move, otherwise its probably a loan and Utd paying a percentage of his wage only.

As for the lad himself, I know sod all about him so can't say whether it would be a good signing or not imo, but we are definitely light still in the defensive midfielder area. As evidenced by 3 league games so far. So, for that reason, im in.

I can see Godfrey being used as a defensive midfield player if we sign Mee.

The question for United would be if we wanted to go with two holding players could you put him next to a Soumare, Peck or Blaster and let Matos do the hard graft and let his midfield partner be the progressive player.

This lad is an out and out DCM of the midfielders we currently have fit an available only Soumare is definitely capable of doing that job maybe Peck but it’ll looks like at present he’s struggling to get to grips with what Selles wants out of a holding midfielder. Hamer and O’Hare can’t play that role and Davies is at this point a player only in theory he’ll be back at some point but his track record suggests he’ll only be fit for 4/5 games before being out again.

Blaster might be able to he might not we clearly think we need another body there if the Iroegbunham interest was legit.
