his disciplinary record looks shite: 10 yellows and 1 red last season

Similar to Harry's then? ;)

Only an opinion, but I find the the sides struggling at the bottom of the league tend to pick up more cards, not necessarily because the refs pick on teams at the bottom, but simply because they find themselves under more pressure due to their predicament, give more fouls away etc and this reflects on this disciplinary record. Notts County being a case in point

There are not enough hours in the day to list all the star players that have been recruited from the lower leagues, non-league too, who have gone on to thrive at higher levels, including the very top.

That Donny lad Brian Deane didn't do too badly. What happened to Scunthorpe's promising youngster Kevin Keegan? Did Chester's Ian Rush ever progress?

Agree completely with your points. In every team there is stand out players, just because notts county was nearly relegated shouldn't mean we under estimate the ability of their players.

Livingston finished mid table in Scottish Championship but Scougall has been an instant success since joining.

The difference between scouggs and the notts county players are age, and scouggs has time to get even better where as the notts county players in question have not, so don't start comparing them to rushy, keegan and deane, its nothing like that situation.

So lets all write him off again before hes even signed.

So again. Who are people realistically expecting us to sign? Were a League 1 club. Messi wont be signing anytime soon & i put more faith in NC to make the right calls than someone on a Football forum.

Jesus wept.

It's about getting the right players at the right price to get us out of Division 3 . This is irrespective of which division they are currently playing in. NC has more knowing and ability than any of us to spot the player. Lee Williamson, Henderson and Lowton got relegated with us but higher placed teams still wanted them

How do you know that Sheehan and JCR cannot improve ? Are you saying age is a barrier to learning ?

1.I'm not writing anybody off and
2.I'm not saying anyone's crap
I'm definately willing to give any of our players a chance, always will do.The point i was trying to make though is someone at scouggs age as got alot BETTER chance of improving over a late 20 's player and a 30 odd year old player.Pinchy was trying to make out like these two have got a chance,at their age,of being a deane, rush or a keegan.no chance.

As for players who i'd like, coady, rowe, assombalonga and woods from shrewsbury ,who is actually very versatile but mainly played right back last year, any of them would do.

The one thing i will agree with you on, is that cloughy knows more than all of us,but at the end of the day it is a football forum where you voice opinions, and this is mine.

Alan Sheehan has been Notts County's best player every single time I've seen us play them in the past couple of seasons. WOuld definitely be a good signing IMO.

Rickie lambert was 27 when he signed for Southampton in league 1... He's off to Brazil now

I'll give you that one s2 although lambert played his youth at liverpool so he was never going to be shite was he.

This is another one of them scenario's where the english player has had to take a backward step before going forward because have a guess who wants him back at the ripe old age of 32.

Having said all that, lambert is not england quality, hodgson said he was building for the future, lambert is 32 and this will be is one and only world cup, fact. Also he propably won't even get on the pitch, never mind start so what a waste of a spot when we are supposed to be buiding for the future ,beggers belief really.

Tony Book was a non league player for Bath City. Aged 30 years, Plymouth's manager Malcolm Allison signed him and Book made his first football league appearance. Two years later Malcolm Allison (who moved to Man City to work with Joe Mercer) persuaded Mercer to sign Book. Book was a month away from turning 32 when he made his 1st division debut. He became the club captain, lifted the League championship trophy in 1968, the FA Cup in 1969, the League Cup and the Cup Winners Cup in 1970. He won the Footballer of the year in 1969.He carried on playing in the 1st division until the age of 39

No disrespect silent and good look up by the way but what relevance does this have to this day and age, players are a lot quicker and fitter nowadays,no relevance whatsoever. Thanks anyway encyclopedic one.

Yes there are. Type faster. No sloping off to the toilet, or sneaking away from the computer to watch Storage Hunters. Jump to it Pinchers, you've got 24 hours! :D

There might be absolutly nothing in this, but Alan Sheehan has just posted on twitter that he has signed for a new club and cant wait to get started tomorrow when it's announced andnour very own K.Freeman has retweeted it.

Could be on the way here from Bradford?

He might be going to the same team Freeman is?

They know each other from Notts County I'd have thought.

Really hope not, he's not what we need and doesn't appear to have impressed at Bradford City. He's not better than what we have. You can tell we're desperate since we're now mentioning Alan Sheehan potentially signing!

Live in Notts and go see county a bit. I personally think we look elsewhere. Not looked great whenever I have seen him. That said, Notts are not far from awful...

He's been suggested in every transfer window since we've been in this league and I think he was actually close to signing for us before he went to Bradford. I did rate him quite highly when I first saw him play against us (I think he scored a free kick for notts at the lane?) but the more I saw of him the more he reminded me of Tony McMahon. Lethal at set pieces but dreadful at everything else.

I get the comparison to McMahon, other than the bit about McMahon being good at free kicks! I think he scored two for us or something similar and the rest were usually pants. Bit like hoe Baxter is supposed to be good at free kicks when in reality he probably scores two a season. Sheehan is actually good at set pieces but I still think we could do better. I didn't get the impression yesterday from Adkins interview that anything was imminent and it seems we're trying to sign other clubs better players.

Not necessarily just free kicks, he was decent at corners too. Now you mention it I'm struggling to remember any other free kicks he scored other than the by the two screamers he got in that game at Crawley. Perhaps that tinted my memory!

Says a lot though that McMahon kept Sheehan out of Bradford's first team!
