So from the position we were in and playing with the style we were doing why haven't we? Were we lucky to top the league?

Leon stopped scoring, Brooks got glandular fever.

And as Ricky said, Fulham woke up, Boro have woke up, Preston have woke up.

We've still won the 6th most in the league. We've just not drawn as many as others.

Poor defence or individual errors for the one nil defeats and not taking your chances equals a drop off.

My take on it, the loss of Coutts took away some creative impetus and we didn't really have a like for like replacement, therefore needing to adjust tactically. Not necessarily the only reason, but I feel a key one.

A combination of our best player getting injured, teams figuring out how to play/beat us, fatigue setting in and Wilder taking a month or so to realise we have to tighten up in certain games...

The difference between us and the teams around us are the top notch/superstar players that each team has at least 4 or 5 of. The two we have have been injured/ill...

We were at the top of our game and it's hard to maintain in this league all season. Fatigue develops and teams work you out. Throw in the Coutts injury, and Brooks' absence for that matter, and it's not hard to see why we're in the position we are now.

There's been a huge reliance on the likes of Basham, Stevens and Clarke and it's a big ask of them at this level.

If you look at our squad on paper objectively, you'd have to say that we're still overachieving to be where we are.

The highlight of my season was the 2nd half v Hull at home . We were beyond belief .

I remember turning to the guys behind me and shouting in a mad crazed way that this was the an example of teamwork at its excellent best . We were awesome and some . I’ve been going to BL since sept 1970 and that moment was the most uplifting and spiritual moment I have ever felt in football and the most magical surreal connection with supporters , team , manager ,the universe I have ever experienced at BL . For that I will for ever and ever be grateful to CW .

Since then we have flatlined which isn’t surprising as we have a manager who is in his first year in one of the toughest leagues in World football with a very well intentioned but limited chairman in terms of funding to push on and a group of players who have over achieved but have lost their talisman in Coutts .

CW is at a crossroads

He is now challenged with meeting the external expectations whilst finding an approach not to fail with limited resources compared to the company we have been keeping at the top end of this league .

We have lost our zip and that’s a fact and I personally would love CW to be brave and pick our flair players at every opportunity but he seems to be caught in the twilight zone of twist or stick which = more bland performances

Chris. - f em all - you have earned the right to push on with the flair which has captured all our hearts . Don’t doubt yourself and drift into safety first

Has to be said too, we looked wobbly pre Coutts at Elland Road and Brooksy saved us.

Coutts' injury made a subtle change in midfield, replacements aren't as happy running with the ball even if the stats back up their passing and chance creation.

I'd say not scoring and leaking at the back is more the problem though. Have as many opportunities now as in October I'd imagine but we just don't put them away, and we let more soft goals in. Can you see the 1-0 win against Brentford happening now? I can't. It'd be 2-1 or 1-1 or we'd lose haha

Losing Coutts was a huge blow to the team we have no real replacement still, add to this the boardroom shenanigans and no real investment in January and we were always going to struggle to kick on. Same owd I'm afraid always trying to do things on the cheap.

I know what you mean and felt...and that Hull game is the only one ive been to this season so far, the unity in that game was immense, and the belief running through them even at 1-0 down didnt waver.

Anyone would think we have a divine right to win and boss other teams. We are the new boys, others have been here for years.

I sense we have been worked out a bit, that and efforts to integrate new players, the injury to PC, have clearly unsettled the team.

There is also no doubt that to build a team to get promoted to the strongest and best league in world football we need to look further than the lower leagues of English Football for recruitment options. We also need to spend a lot of money.

We have done well so far, exceeded expectations. We are on the up, and there is a lot to look forward to, patience required.
