Advice please: switching to the kop

Hi,

I'm considering switching from the family stand onto the Kop for next season but I am concerned that my son (aged 10) may still be a little young for the choice language and behaviour that I have sporadically witnessed myself whenever I have happened to sit on there.

I'd appreciate the thoughts of any fellow blades who have faced a similar dilemma.

Thanks in advance.

In general, all good, but don't sit on Gangway B near the front cos when things aren't going too well, I swear like a trooper and I'm forever apologising

If we'd had a swear box, I'd be skint 10 times over

Thanks very much for the input everyone, really appreciate it.

There are some who take their kids as young as 2/3 to the back of the kop (where they cannot see a thing) and proceed to join the masses in screaming obscenities in their ears. I really don't get it

Started taking my lad when he was 7, he didn't have that much concentration before that age.
We started down at the front on kop as he liked to go n get close to the players but as he got older we migrated towards the rear and we are SS Blades now ( good seats for kop )

Yes...forgot to say too that the view for smaller people is crap when the folk in front stand up everytime the ball gets near the 28 yard box.

Enjoy being further back and watching them all rise like the world's most organised mexican wave. Must be playing more havoc on their knees than just being stood up the whole game.

So we've got people to smash up the aircon and squirt mustard around in twenty years time.

Unless it's a cost consideration, I wouldn't bother personally. View and facilities better where you are.

The time to do it was last year, so he handily couldn't see us every week :D

Myself and the 2 JBs have been members but have now gone for season tickets. Over the last 3 seasons we have been on the Kop, Westfield and John St. We have gone for John St, you still get the odd gobshite though. Atmosphere in all the areas is much improved this season anyway. My favourite is Westfield but kids can't get signatures.

He will hear some bad language, but you'll soon realise he's hearing far worse elsewhere and you can't control it.

Better to let them hear it, and you teach them the context of when and where it's "acceptable".

Both by sons grew up from 5 on the kop hearing it all, including from me. But they didn't swear, to a point when it became an issue at school (being singled out) and I had to assure them it was okay, at times.

Make the move. :)

It's how you are at home rather than what they witness at a match that determines what they'll grow up like, I reckon.

A mate of mine takes two of his daughters from time to time and they're no older than 6. This is the back of the Kop as well. They'll turn out fine though because their mum and dad are good folk.
Bang on.

At ten year old he will have heard it all at school anyway but on the kop he will struggle to see unless stood on his chair the viewing angle really isn't that good.
