  • Pick two of the quick, mobile players in the starting line up, ie. two from Forte, Murphy and Poleon.
  • Play one of them up front, the other out wide.
  • On the other flank, play a more solid/creative option, i.e. choose between Flynn, McFadzean or Robson.
  • If Robson plays tell him try to create more from wide, and to avoid getting into deep central midfield. It upsets the rhythm and disturbs the roles of McDonald and Doyle.
  • If Flynn or Robson is picked at left midfield in home games, at least consider if playing McFadzean can give them better support and us more width as an attacking left full back. If either (Flynn/Robson) is played on the right, encourage/demand more overlapping from McMahon.
  • Don’t listen to people suggesting to drop McDonald. His poor performances will pick up if we play a well balanced team.

Bergs - what about tempo? We have to play with more urgency. Inferior teams just come and press us over the pitch. Brentford, with slightly more quality, might actually cause us some damage.

Agree but Bergen's line up is more likely to induce tempo - hopefully due to some movement up front.

They have to want it next Saturday. Must be positive

Bergen for Manager!

Why is McDonald undroppable? Most of the side very poor today, no excuses for being unable to do the basics.

That's the concern for me Foxy, it's all in our hands and here we go with the wobbles again. FFS, did we learn nothing about disappointment last season. Step up to the mark you tossers, the only ones who can fuck this season up is us, don't let it happen again.

I think the poorly balanced team selections are the primary cause of McDonald's disappointing performances of late. If we put that right I strongly believe he will improve.

Plays better with movement Foxy.

Movement by him or the others? They all play better with movement, was my main argument with those slating Flynn. A lack of movement from others doesn't impair your own ability to control the ball or move yourself.

Only positive today was McFadzean having a go whenever he got the ball.

Agree. Though don't particularly rate McDonald.

We've got no mobility in central midfield; no element of box to box play. Yet we continually tell the wingers to cut inside and inevitably the momentum stalls because of our lack of penetration down the middle. If our wingers got beyond their men and our strikers had some mobility to run beyond, we'd create much more space for our central midfield further up the pitch to do some damage.

I've been saying this all season. When will Danny realise for chuff's sake? It's tipping me over the edge Bergs!!!

because he is the only player remotely capable of making a killer pass.. if he makes one pass per game (like the one to Forte last week) then he has done his job and done more than flynn monty and doyle in their entire careers

Clearly. *shakes head*

Seriously, we're scared of fucking Brentford. How the mighty fall.

Having been humped 4-0 by the mighty Stevenage we should be scared of Havent & Waterloovile at this moment in time. Mighty? When was that pray tell?

At least Warnocks been talking about hanging his boots up today so every cloud.

Bergen for boss !!!!!!!

Advice for Radio Sheffield do not setup the commentary in the kids section.

Pretty annoying wasn't it? Screaming kids and that woman who kept cackling. And what about that mongo that kept shouting "come on you red and whiiiiiiites" in a high pitched nasal whine?

why are you shaking your head?.. you constantly stick up for mediocrity yet have the audacity to criticise our ONLY decent player

He was nothing but mediocre today yet again, does that mean I'm sticking up for him?

How did you think he played today?

He can be a quality player, that doesn't mean he should play by default.

Im sorry but he isn't decent. Strutting round and almost playing killer passes really isn't decent. Last season I saw KMac take teams to pieces with his passing and quality. This season he looks a yard short, his passes are shotgun to say the least and he looks like he is as invested into mediocrity as the rest of them.

I'm guessing the next thing will be he is that much better than the rest of our players they can't pick his passes. Breaking news here, football is a team game played by eleven players. If your team is good enough you will win. If it isn't you won't. Right now our TEAM isn't good enough one to eleven. If you want to go join the KMac circle jerk then thats fine, but please don't pull everyone elses pud into the bargain. Some of us see through the myth.

some of you have decided to be anti mac because all of the flynn haters love mac..
ive seen all this shit before with the same golden lion suspects sticking up for monty.. you wouldnt know a decent footballer if they ran up and kicked you in the bollocks
edit.. and it wouldnt be flynn.. he'd fall down before he got there

But he doesn't make one killer pass per game. There is often movement in front of him but he ignore it to pass wide. If slight defence of KMac,Robson was far worse than him today at ball retention and passing

What are you on?

I merely said a poor McDonald shouldn't be beyond dropping, after watching another poor performance from him and the majority of the side.

What's all this other crap? You didn't answer how you thought he played today?

Watch thr 3 rd goal and tell me he was giving everything. This isnt about any other player ,but our best ball player negated his one killer pass every couple of games by letting them just stroll one in. He has had a wretched season :(

Just to clarify, I don't think the real disagreement is that some thinks McDonald's been great and some thinks he's been poor.

The theory is that McDonald is struggling to do well unless he's surrounded by the right type of players in a team that is well balanced. If we get that right McDonald will do well even at Premiership level.

If not, McDonald will look out of sorts even at non-league level.

The debate should be how can we get the balance right to get the maximum out of our players, including McDonald. If the management just looks at which random underperforming player they should take out of a dysfunctional set up we could remain limited, ineffective and miles away from achieving our true potential.

It is a very rare occasion when we have a player with the ability for us to build a team around. With McDonald, I think most agree we have one. Play the right game for him, which is also the type of game the fans have been clamouring for, he will excel.

Get some movement from either the wingers or full backs, like last season, and the forwards and he'll regularly take the piss out of the opposition. Play static wide and forward men, he'll be anonymous and often hold onto the ball for too long, waiting for somebody to make a move.

Play the players to play his game and we'd sail to victory.

If he is as good as you claim, then other clubs would have snapped him up in the summer, when if I remember correctly, he was out of contract and available.

Don't get me wrong, he is a decent and gifted player who is comfortable on the ball but to my mind he fails all too often to have a positive impact on the game. He doesn't shoot when he should and does not score enough goals given his undoubted ability.

Danny should have another word with him.
