I've never seen that regarding McCabe saying that, i'll try not to mention Parkinson and Bradford again but it has crossed my mind once or twice has that scenario, i'm not promising anything though:)

it's here mate, at 29 seconds in . Time for closure on the Parkinson scenario now ;-)

Cheers mate! Now although he states he enquired for Adkins 2 years ago that doesn't neccessarily mean he was first choice this time:D Ok then, i'll leave it:)

Either way he's here, and in the interviews he looks so genuinely pleased to have taken the job! He's been walking around the city, "right up the top of Ecclesall Rd" apparently, and talked to some fans etc - think he will be a right breath of fresh air for this club.

Wait till he's even on The Moor, then see how positive he his.

Plus it sounded like Parkinson was the main man that the board was after anyway with how many times they apparently tried to approach him which is pretty frightening when you think about it. Did the board really get their main man or have we fell lucky and got Adkins:)

I'd say we got lucky that the board didn't use their normal managerial selection criteria. Think 'stick the tail on the donkey.'

I wonder how the fans will react when we have an off-day and fail to win at home. Because that's going to happen a few times this season. Even Arsenal and Man U screw it up in front of their own fans on occasion, and the impatience of home fans can have a negative effect on the team. I do think it's very important to give Adkins a lot of slack and not expect miracles at first. As long as we're keeping pace with the top two, or count ourselves among them, we should be happy. Even if we're down in 6th or 7th we shouldn't start booing, it often takes time for a new manager to get it right.

Let's see if he can survive the Saturday Shoutbox Test, eh? Personally, I fear the crayons will be out in no time...

Reading some of the comments on here I think some of those who wanted Clough to stay want Adkins to fail so the rest of us won't be proved right.

Adkins has the CV that proves he has what it takes to get clubs promoted, but he has to sort out the mess that the previous incumbent left behind, it's more than just a striker and two centre backs which some seem to think is the Panacea we need.

Five or six positions need sorting out, that may take two seasons, but I am confident we will set out to play attacking football at home, from the off that's what most of us crave, we haven't seen it since Wilsons first season.

I hope no fan , (whether they wanted Clough to stay, and be given longer in the job, ) , want Adkins to fail . It would be shear madness . Thankfully i see no political infighting either at board or fan level with Adkins appointment .

You cannot please everybody all the time , but we seem to all be in agreement , he is the right man for the job.

With regards the number of new players required ( not taking into account the obvious ) , we will have to wait and see , how good Adkins thinks the existing squad is , with his preseason assessment . IMO he may already be close to that judgement , and hopefully sees positives and not negatives , with contracted players . It wont be long , until we find out.

And certain posters on here will give the credit to Clough laying good foundations when Adkins is successful just so they can lay claim to being right all the time, much like a certain section of the Derby support when McClaren showed even an average bod was far better than negative Nigel.

You can look at it however you want, long and short of it is Clough was given enough time and money to succeed, and he didn't. So he failed. Simple. :)

They don't exist. It's just part of the purely fantastical narrative of the poster you're replying to.

The most tiresome opinions on here come from those who are only capable of binary judgements. Thankfully most are capable of more nuanced thought.

I didn't want Clough sacked. My preferred choice as his successor was Karl Robinson.

However, I'm absolutely delighted we've got Nigel Adkins and very excited at the prospect of some proper, exciting, winning football.

Why would I want him to fail to prove people whose views I don't value, wrong? They really do flatter themselves, don't they? Does the self-importance of the Saturday Shoutbox Crew have no limits?....

Watch out Nigel....first time you select a team of which they don't approve or, still worse, go a goal down...

Says the Saturday Shoutbox Crew's head honcho ;)

List of last pre-seasons acquisitions, how many of these were really used? Not sure the foundations were even layed

Higdon, McNulty, JCR, Wallace,Basham, McGahey,Butler, Alcock,Ben Davies, Turner, McEveley

If the offer of a 3 year contract was instrumental in getting Adkins in the door then I'd say it was worth it.
One would also hope that the contract would not be paid in full if he did get sacked. A lot of people pointed to Blackwell not getting a job after we sacked him. I know nothing about this by the way, but presume a big factor in that was that we were still paying him to do bod all. Much like Adkins has been using his time on gardening leave recently to take in New experiences to improve himself for his now dream job:)

I'm in the 'let the man go to work for three year's camp. It takes time to make and leave a Mark on a club. If he's the right man, he's the right man. Trust him.

I just hope 5% of his positivity rubs off on the fans and we'll be a force of nature:)

I thought the fans last year were unbelievably positive given the context of the situation we were in. Not once did i hear chants or signs of Clough out anywhere within BDTBL. I think if it'd been at a different club Nigel would of been absolutely abused throughout all the home games we were losing against the likes of Fleetwood and there'd be banners everywhere. I think he got off lightly given how he managed to mess up in such style. So i think suggestions that the fans played any part in his sacking are ludicrous and I think even an ounce of success at the start of next season with NA and BDTBL will be rocking. I hope this is our year.

Hope so. When Clough first took over the only way was up, but I think it was the disappointing start of last season that set the tone, especially after a full pre-season when more players were brought in than at Bristol. Yet strangely Clough said a few times that Bristol had had the chance to do their business pre-season and we hadn't, I didn't get that - quality over quantity?

We got: Higdon, McNulty, JCR, Wallace,Basham, McGahey,Butler, Alcock,Ben Davies, Turner, McEveley

Bristol got: Korey Smith, Luke Freeman, Mark Little, Wade Elliott , Aaron Wilbraham and then Agard a few weeks in
