Realistically, what we need is a shot stopper. Coming for crosses isn't a priority in the way we play - with three at the back, it's less common for us to be conceding crosses, and when we do, one of the back three (or wing backs tucking in) gets there first.



Here's what the stats say (only up to January, cause that's all I can find). This is performance versus xGOT for PL keepers - how many more/less goals did each keeper conceded versus the an average keeper, given the shots they faced.

• Ramsdale is pretty much bang in the middle of the PL, and pretty much =0 (concedes as many as you'd expect)
• Up to Jan, he was better than Adrian, de Gea and Pickford, but not as good as Roberto (the calamity at West Ham), Matt Ryan or Guaita

And here's some stats on Cakir:

• Of players to have played more than 3 games, he has the highest save % in the Turkish league (78%). It's a low bar, but you can't be better than the best
• Most saves in the league, with 11% more saves than the second-best
• Can't save penalties

No way is Ramsdale worth anything near £22m..... he's a decent keeper granted but if being relegated in a side that shipped 65 goals puts a £22m price tag on your head the world is officially fucked.

£10m tops IMO with a decent sell on clause and an extra couple of million if he is capped for England whilst playing for us.....in fact, chuck Bournemouth £25m for Rambo and Brooks and they have got a fantastic deal...

TBF Ederson and Allison has spells at Roma and Benfica respectively. There’s definitely an element of risk with Cakir as he’s unproven in Europe.

The question is then who do we get, assuming Hendo's not returning? I can't think of many alternatives that would match the quality we need and obviously Ramsdale is young and time to improve and increase in value. Maybe Etheridge from Cardiff.

Previous Talksport gems... We're not taking the league seriously, we play with a back 4... Etc!

TBF if we buy a very good keeper, they're going to be very expensive.

I have total trust in Wilder, Knill and Ward. They knew Ramsdale as a kid, and presumably it'd be easier for him to adapt. Very young so should improve a lot over time. If the viable option is to choose a Turkish option, I'll have equal faith in them - though it's true the lad would need to adapt and settle in the country (goalkeeping is more universal a position to adapt to).

I worry about Wilders judgement if he goes with Ramsdale! His confidence looked shot after the restart and might struggle trying to win crowd over, he (anyone) will be in the shadow of Hendo.

The more we up the value of Ramsdale, the more Leeds, Villa,Wham have to pay. Match it with £15m for Cakir then we get one of Europe's best young GKs for a bargain price, and weaken our competitors player budget. A similar tactic would help if DCL comes on the market.

Cakir would be the bigger gamble, but he comes with higher potential returns. Taking a young lad out of Turkey (can’t think of many who’ve followed this route), and putting him in such a high profile, exposed position.... Well, I’d want to know his character and his support group in fine detail.

Ramsdale is the safer option. And if he’s significantly cheaper too, then I‘ve no issues with pursuing him.

I really hope we aren't going to blow millions on bringing Ramsdale back. If we want to give Bournemouth a handout, there's a few more of their players that I'd go for before him.

Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against Ramsdale, but from what I saw of him he was a bit slow for my liking. I can't remember what game it was now, but there was one match at the Lane when we were losing and he's taking ages to take a goal kick - like he didn't know the score or something. And I thought he looked generally quite hesitant. That was then, this is now. No doubt he's improved further, but I've still not seen or heard anything to suggest that he's a top keeper - and that's what we should be looking to sign.
