A Yorkshire first?

I've just read on the BBC that we are only the third Yorkshire team to win against Man U at Old Trafford in the Premier league era, after Leeds in the FA Cup and York in the League Cup, so I take it from that we're the only Yorkshire team take 3 Premier League points from Old Trafford!!!

One of my big cricket watching regrets was not going to see Yorkshire there when I had the chance.

My final year at Sunderland uni (the home of British Academia ) coincided with Yorkshire's last year at the out grounds in 1996. My very last week at Sunderland, Yorkshire were playing at Acklam Park, starting on the Thursday. One of the lads in our shared digs asked if I fancied going down to Middlesbrough that day but I back heeled it to go back to Sheffield instead. Other than being skint I had no other reason to rush back to Sheffield. I'd been to see Yorks v Durham at Chester LS the previous month so always wished I'd gone to Acklam Park too when I had the chance.

They are sounding out the idea of going back to out grounds so you never know I might get the chance yet!

Spent some good days at Abbeydale Park watching Yarks in my youth. My mate’s family were members of the sports club so we used to get in free/cheap on their cards. I remember walking into the bar when we were still at school and finding half our teachers in there!

Abbeydale and Park Avenue had definitely been considered over the last couple of years before all this started with Covid. I've been Scarborough, Headingley, Harrogate and York. Kick myself I didn't get Abbeydale and Park Avenue in, in the early 90s, I had planned too but missed out due to a combination of weather and in the case of the latter laziness. Does Don Valley count for the Darren Gough benefit game or when Yorks played the rest of the world twice in the early 90s?

One of my best mates from Uni is a Boro lad through and through and was born in the North Riding Infirmary ( clue in the name) about a mile out of the town centre.

Middlesbrough is North Yorkshire believe me when I worked up at Thirsk we had a few from there and Boro supporters and we used to tease them about not being in Yorkshire and they would get the right hump. Middlesbrough is definitely North Yorkshire. I didnt realise Redcar was too. Dont forget its pronounced Redca not Redcar or you will get lynched if you say Redcar up there!

Middlesbrough have won there in the Premier League 3 times, in 15 attempts, the same strike rate as us.

Boro is in Yorkshire. When I was an ignorant student at Coventry Poly I became good mates with a lad from Boro. It's a miracle we became mates because my opening sentence was summat like "Ayup, you're one o' them Geordies aren't ya?" I did live to tell the tale. That's it about Yorkshire, it's reyt big!!

The Tees was the boundary between Yorkshire and Durham. Boro and Redcar are both on the south bank of the Tees, hence in Yorkshire.

My best mates at uni were from the Boro and Redcar and were definately Yorkshiremen. One of them refused to play for the Lancaster team against York in the annual battle of the roses! Calling them geordies is just asking for trouble. Also misspelling Middlesbrough is a good way to wind them up.

Yeah Middlesbrough Council report into North Yorkshire County Council so in that sense they are definitely part of North Yorkshire. North Yorkshire as a county is huge when you think it boundaries the outskirts of both West and South Yorkshire and to Settle in the West and all along the coast in the East.

Also went to Suderland Poly as was then, went to watch Yorkshire play at Middlesborough, Was bloody freezing, drizzly, and as I remember sod all of interest happened.
