What did you say when he interviewed you?

"I'm embarrassed to have to come here watching this shameful, route one hoofball team.
I've only just got over the misery of seeing United narrowly defeated by Liverpool in the League Cup Semi and now this.
Knowing my luck I'll have to endure a thrilling Play-Off Semi victory and another bloody Final in May.
I just wish 'Ol Big Nose would get the sack so we don't have to suffer this sort of torture any more"

Presumably?
No, he just said 'it's the best of times and the worst of times' and left it at that.

Always liked Paul walker and as others have said he is a Blade. I met him and Seth Bennett in Pop Tarts I think it was called at Sheffield City Hall about 12 years ago and I got speaking to him and Seth and they both were really friendly. He said he was a Blade then too. Rob Staton's definitely a Pig as you said Pinchy, I know someone who went to school with him who confirmed that. Andy Giddings is a Halifax Town fan, but never seems to mention that, funnily enough! I met him by fluke two weeks ago on the way back from Gillingham in a petrol staton, Got talking to him and he seemed really happy to talk and was very friendly. Just gave Keith the thumbs up as I walked past the Radio Sheffield car, who did vice versa. That made my day but maybe that says more about me!

Giddings has stated many times he's a Halifax fan.

AAaargh , a whoosh moment?

The SUFC history Chanel on you tube is a great place for loads of United videos. Not sure who has done it but full praise to that person, it saves me having to convert my videos onto DVD and I haven't got all of the ones he has, namely this video and the 100 years and 100 goals.

I wish we had Darrell Bentley back. What a true legend of commentators that man is! Even my mate who's a Pig thinks he's heroic! In an age now where commentary quality is generally decent, bit often waffle, you never get bored to hear him say !ITS THERE"! I wish he could be added to the Radio Sheffield commentary team, although he's probably about 70 by now. Can you imagine it! Keith Edwards with Darrell Bentley:

"Moore has possession, he takes the ball out of his box now and walks slightly up the pitch before hitting long. Of course he can kick the ball further up the pitch by doing (that was actually said by the way, although not sure by Bentley, its on the 100 years video), Clarke flicks onto Duffy, now running at his full back (Bentley's pace and excitement is now building, he usually gets faster in his commentary at this point a bit like a horse race!), Duffy to Billy Sharp, who crosses for Clarke AND ITS THERE, THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL GOAL BY SHEFFIELD"!

Thanks for the info. I will check it out.

Good stuff, I'd forgotten about this documentary. - a few points - bloody awful racist baying at Deane and particularly Agana by the Mansfield inbreds; always loved Bryson - a proper footballer. Just reminds me again how bloody good Deane was at this time, no way would we have held on to him as long as we did if he was playing like that today he would be hoovered up into the reserves of some PL team after half a dozen games, probably never to be heard of again.

Yeah that's no secret is it, maybe because its only Halifax he feels he can nail his colours to the mast, whereas the others haven't (officially!) I wonder who Jonathan Buchan supports? He has his dirty West Yorkshire accent doesn't he?! :D

On the 100 years video, 100 goals from the same season the interchange between Deane and Agana is a thing of beauty! With Bryson and Roberts on the wing too, its no surprise we scored so many goals. The 5 - 1 v Swansea is worth watching for Deane and Agana in particular, although most remember the 6 - 1 v Chester. As for the video I love the cheesy music during the goals!

I wonder what happened to Bentley. A constant voice in my childhood watching old United VHS tapes. The scruffiest of goals would be described by the words "WHAT A GOAL"

I love his research techniques expressed on the video you posted. He reads the paper to see who has come back from injury, who is our top scorer and how our opposition are doing in the league. Wonder if he is part of Opta stats now?

I'm genuinely gutted that I only heard Darrel Bentley respectively on videos like the above as opposed to live, nut I don't he he comentated for Radio Sheffield that said? It was Clarke and Jackson that I was brought up on and even then I was only young and generally just waited for the score to come up on the vidiprinter on Grandstand! Without any knowledge of how the game had gone I used to jump in the air like I'd won the lottery when we won!

I wish Bentley could be brought back to Blades player for a season! He must be getting on now but I think the club should at least interview him for those that remember him. His enthusiasm is infectious as you say with his WHAT A GOAL! Sometimes he would be equally loud when the opposition scored too! I guess when he watched he didn't realise that it would only be the goals that would be featured so you just have him going ITS THERE or the equally catchy AND ITS THERE etc! His commentary seemed to stop when we got to the top flight so i wonder if they decided we needed a top notch commentator then?!

No finally about it. He made his allegiances very very clear. Unlike the ridiculous posturing of the recent and present day local radio hacks who seem to think they are of sufficiently celebrity such that they have to conceal their support for a particular club. In so doing the fucking morons continually insult our intelligence.

For those who remain unsure the obnoxious Paul Walker is a Blade. So is Seth Bennett, who is OK. So is Mr. Praise and Grumble, Robert Jackson. Staton is a Pig.

He was on the same coach as me to Wembley v Huddersfield P/O final, wearing a Blades shirt.

Are you sure that Bob Jackson is a Blade? When we played a preseason game at Wendy in August 1994 (Steel City Cup?), Bob Jackson was the tannoy announcer at Hillsborough. He said "Welcome to Hillsborough, the home of Premier League football in Sheffield" to cheers from the wendies. I thought at the time it was a provocative comment given our heartbreaking last-minute relegation at Chelsea three months earlier. Mind you, we beat Wendy 3-2. I think Nathan Blake got a last minute winner.

Lucky boy! I presume you've seen this video mate?

Never seen this in my life and neither has the old man, he follows this site but doesn't post, rang me a couple of hour ago and told me to get on and have a look. My eldest lad who is just short of 4yr old who watches the Wizards with me is the double of me back then! Great 3 second clip that i will never forget!

Quality! Chuffed you've seen that and full praise to the guy who's done SUFC History on Youtube, there's loads of videos on there! I can't compare to that memory, but I'll never forget going up the steps from the concourse of the South Stand (I had no choice in that, I wanted the Kop!) and seeing the Lane for the first time and then beating Manchester United 2 -1, Bradas getting the winner! When we scored, I looked up at my Step Dad next to me and I'll never forget him laughing in delight for me! UTB

I shed a little tear watching it, i 1st watched United at 18 month old, mascot at 3 but have no real recollection until around 4-5yrs old. Travelled the length and breadth of our great country to see You-Nited as my old man found it a great punishment for whatever reason :-)

Brought back some fantastic memories, i even have a fish called "Jockey"

A bradders winner vs Man Utd? Memory evading me or could it be Jamie Hoyland in '93?

Up the fuckin' Blades!

Bradders winner was in February 1991. Hoyland in 1993 was the equaliser. Hodges scored the winner

How your mind plays tricks on you, anybody got a clip of Bradders winner? Something i'd love to see! Hodges goal that day in '93 was something special, his left foot wouldn't go a miss in any day and age. Sheffield United F.C, the biggest and best rollercoaster the world has ever seen!

It was Vinny Jones who handled. Wilder had a good game that night

I'm sure the commentator blamed our saviour? Ah well, either way we had a great team, cameraderie and no nonsense manager back then that i hope Tufty can replicate in the coming months/years. Personally i feel we're going the right way after a strange start but we look an outfit now, cut out the odd mistake and we'll be up there come may! UTB fuck everyone else!

Seen that video so many times! The commentary on the Manchester United version always sticks with me when he says "the victory clearly meant more in Sheffield, than defeat did in Manchester"!

What a match! This mans left foot is magic!

No doubt many of our fans will have seen this either at the time or on the SUFC history Chanel that someone has kindly set up on you tube (not me by the way!) but I have never seen this particular video from the third division promotion season. Its a bit like the UNITED documentary a year later, but this one is done internally. Highlights for me included Bob Booker signing, trips away to Mansfield on the coach with the players and also various instances of a very young Chris Wilder! A very young French on there too and Dave kilner sadly no longer with us of course, presenting the video and featuring a double bed in the chairmans office! Anyone know if that's still there!? Steak and Veg (Reg Brealey) is on of course and the prospect of a membership scheme seems to be causing concern at the time!

Whenever I watch highlights of this time it always strikes me how good Roberts looks, but then we sold him to Lincoln when we got promoted, and Bassett in the 25th anniversary dinner last year said "he (Roberts) wanted to go so we fucked him off to Lincoln"! That drew many laughter but I'm surprised that Roberts wanted to go, since he was with United and had just got promoted and then decided to join the Mighty Lincoln?! I started supporting us the season after, aged 10, so I missed out on Roberts, Pike, Benstead (on the bench), Thompson, Joseph, Brian Smith, Andy Barnsley and co. Webster didn't play much either.

You can get it on DVD for £3 here...

That was Mrs Revolution's first ever game too. Seeing us beat Man U in your first game - it's all downhill from there!

It was truly a great game wasn't it!

My misses first game was against the Pigs when we lost 2 - 1 at the Lane meaning that we'd been doubled by them for the first time since whenever it was;1923 or something! I'd got tickets (not intentionally!) above the Wednesday fans in the upper tier of the Bramall Lane end. She'd never seen a game before, let alone a Sheffield derby! She wasn't too impressed with my behaviour sadly and in hindsight I was totally naive to take her to a derby! I seem to recall shouting BASTARDS repeatedly at the top of my voice whilst pointing my fingers at anyone looking from their end didn't impress her that much! As a few will have noticed this week (irony!) I'm a Christian and was then too, and so is my mrs so you can imagine how it went down! We've not watched much of United since for some reason!
