We're desperate for a quality striker. Who'd have thought that come the end of the year our top scorer would be Harry Maguire and that he'd be on 5 goals. I'm surprised we're not rock bottom with that record.

Porter is ok as back up, but should never be a starting striker (some around me say he should never be a striker full stop).

Our Marlon has gone, hopefully never to return.

Miller was always going to take time to get over such a horrific injury.

Leaves us pretty bare. Could we realistically get this Russell chap? I can't see either of the Coventry lads coming to us now like I could earlier on in the season.

Who's out there?

I wouldn't have minded DJ Campbell before the recent allegations.

Who are we going to go for? We surely HAVE to sign a decent quality striker or I fear a very very long second half to the season.

Imagine that first half against Oldham, but the agony spread out over several months.

We will bring someone in but we be lucky to to get a "quality" striker, maybe with the right money we could temp someone but there is always the chance he is a flop :p.
What we need is a well balanced team where everyone can chip in with the odd goal.

Funny how BladesMad has a poster called PeteBlade with exactly the same avatar as this guy.

Don't disagree with that but it wouldn't fit in with the Wages to turnover protocols

The problem as I said on a thread the other day is finding a striker who can lead the line, hold the ball up, run the channels, and score goals, they aren't that easy to get hold of. Remember last season when the pigs were looking for one similar? Who did they finish up with? .... Steve Howard!

If the prince say puts in 5 million then 3.25 can be spent on transfers and wages for players over 21 and the rest can be spent on under 21s. It doesn't have to be a sponsorship or anything and the protocol only didn't work for us because KM was not putting any more money in. If we could get Wells for a mill plus addons it would also be a good investment.

We really should be able to pick off some talent because apart from parachute and premiership teams we should be next in line to compete.

Sylvan Eubanks Blake (27yrs old) out of contract. Heidar helguson(36yrsold) but scored 8 goals 2012/2013 season from 27 starts (16 as sub) for Cardiff, Out of contract . Source Pfa.com . Don't know what the wages would be, but worth a punt at this level surely.

Ebanks-Blake has gone to Ipswich. Helgusson (who would have been great for this level tbh) has retired I think. A player I thought we'd sign one day - think NW tried to at one stage.

Leon Clarke and Nahki Wells would form a lethal partnership I think. You could also play Baxter off either one of them or both.

To get those two you would end up paying in excess of £2m but we should have the money and those two are the best realistic targets on the market imo.

Bring in those two, a winger and a left back and I would be happy with the squad until the summer. It would give us more than enough quality to climb up the league.

When do we finally get Alan Lee??

I really don't want Clarke at the lane, he scored a few I grant you but I think he's overrated. I must admit though to a wee bit of bias, he's just one of those players I can't stand. Just think he comes across as a right bell end

Call me negative, but I really can't see Wells wanting to come here when Championship teams are sniffing around.

It amazes me, that the last 4 Blades managers have all selected Porter for their team on match day.

No one has sold him, been out on loan, done fuck all, come back and got back in the team.

I would have thought one of the Cones would have dislodged him by now

Twat will still be here in 2020

Won't Championship sides be sniffing round Wilson too? I hope there is competition for players we are after because years of going for players who others don't want such as Porter, Collins and Doyle etc; the results tend to suck

Morning gentlemen, thought I'd add my tuppence worth to the matter of signing players. As has been so correctly identified, which player of promise will want to sign for a struggling team in this division? The things in our favour are Nigel, his standing in the game might sway an undecided player, plus the appeal of coming to t'Lane and what the future holds. Horses for courses I think, at least for now.

Until we're in sniffing distance of the Championship, or actually in the Championship, I think attracting players of quality will be difficult. Hope I'm wrong of course, and if I am I'll be one very happy Unitedite. So, transferwise, we shouldn't expect trees to be pulled up in January, but come the summer, well we've been told that's when major surgery will happen, so patience and a reliance that the Prince will provide NC with the resources to do his job properly, and not expect to him to operate on a shoestring.

There were 3 championship clubs rumoured yesterday to be interested in Leon Clarke, so you'd imagine there'd be even more interest at that level for Wilson. Can't see us having a sniff now.

Jutkiewicz of Middlesbro would have been a good shout a few weeks back maybe, being shut out of the 1st team picture there, but their new manager seems to have brought him back in from the cold.

Leon Best of Blackburn maybe?

We need a neil shipperley type player. Porter isn't anywhere need the quality ships was. If we are gonna persist with porter up front we may as well play maguire there and move hill to CB. Maguire will win more headers, got a better touch and can score goals!!!

Open question; what in your view is the main criteria(s) when a player chooses to sign for another club. The reason I ask is because, standings in the league apart, surely we are up there in the top 10.(below the premiership that is).

I never liked him either but he's shown a marked improvement in his all round play since he was at the sty.

I've watched him both when he was with them and recently with Coventry. Looks a different player. Experience has brought him on. I think he would do well for United and the fans would take to him after a bit.

Depends if Championship clubs are ready to pay the going rate and take a chance on him because he's unproven above the third tier. There was lots of talk about a couple of Championship clubs taking him in the last window and nobody did.

United supposedly have the money and we know he can score in this league. We are in a better position to gamble on him if we want to.

For the record I don think we will even try to sign him, but we should that's all I'm saying.
