he could have pondered over sentencing till monday, the twat
but he was meeting a girl in a Rhyll hotel
But he would still have denied him bail, given that a custodial sentence was inevitable.

If that's the case why weren't Pryce and huhne locked up prior to sentencing?
I'm playing devil's advocate here though. It's ridiculous to suggest that united would have played someone convicted of rape, the day after the conviction. The club would have been ridiculed by the press, and it would have been the worst PR move possible in the circumstances.
Promotion at Crewe, champions at Bramall Lane.
I'd take that.
my we have an over inflated view of ourselves thereEight weeks later than it should have happened!
I remember a penultimate game in 1990 vs Blackburn away. Went to that, saw Paul Wood in the chip shop after.
The score - Nil nil....
Not if he wanted to keep his job as a judge he couldn't.....
Really?
I was joking of course but I didn't know there were occasions whereby judges can't suspend a sentence. Not that I actually think he should have done.
see disappointing 0-0 are nothing new , even in promotion seasons
was in what was a shed then at Ewood that night , how we didnt win Ill never know , battered em
we went up with 82 points that season, losing 4 at home
At the time Ched was sentenced, the longest term that could be suspended was 12 months. Since then the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 has extended that to two years.
It would be an affront to justice and common sense if really long gaol terms could be suspended, wouldn't it?

Yeah, but we'd have been promoted......![]()
Interesting point. Say by some miracle Ched had got a suspended sentence and as a convicted (but free) rapist had been able to play at MKD, should we have played him?
See my earlier post re: the pryce case. It would have been phenomenally bad PR by the club.
But when it's not in our own hands (cf Exeter last season, Palace 2009), we still don't win.
In fact, we never win. Ever.
And you, who was full of "We never throw it away from this position" last Season too!
"We have never thrown it away from this position" would have been the way to phrase it, less prone to hubris I'd have said. Basically what I'm saying is is that it's all your fault.
We never had - until last season....
How soon they forget 1938....
Tell us more. How did we cock that one up?
On the morning of United's last game, the top of division 2 looked like this (2 points for a win)
Aston Villa P 41 Pts 55
Sheffield United P41 Pts 53
Manchester United P40 pts 51
Coventry City P40 pts 51
Top 2 promoted and 2 points for a win, remember. Our goal average (no goal difference then) was worse than Man Utds and Coventry's by a large margin.
That Saturday, Man Utd lost 1-0 at West Ham, and Coventry lost 3-1 at Plymouth...and we lost 2-1 at Southampton, when a draw would have seen us promoted.
The following Saturday, Man Utd were at home to Bury, and Coventry were at Stockport, both needing to win to pass us. Coventry drew 1-1 - but Man Utd won 2-0, consigning us to 3rd place for the 2nd time in 3 years.
We went up the following year, pipping the Pigs by a point.
