Going a bit nerdy stats however on the "ball in play time" between 01/07/2019 and 03/03/2021 in the Championship according to football observatory the average was calculated for the ball being in play over 954 games during this period the ball was on the pitch and playable 57.2% of the time so on average that's under 52 minutes in a 90 minute game. There has been proposals and potentials for trials to run the clock differently where you play 60 minutes of "in ball time" which means stopping the clock every time the ball isn't playable, based on the average we would be getting an additional 8 minutes per match worth of football. I personally would like to see the stats as you do wonder sometimes where the time comes from however if it was 2 halves of 30 minutes of in ball time we would actually be getting more football for our money!
