Every year we have debates about football policing tactics and choose to blame the cops completely.
Fact is, if everyone who went to the game acted like fair minded reasonable people then there would be no need for the cops, and then no prospect of them inconveniencing anyone. But they don’t.
So the cops are left with the impossible task of preventing idiots clashing in a city centre setting, with absolutely no powers to allow them to do that effectively.
Granted they do make a friggin mess of it more often than not, mostly due to some shiny arsed clown who has no common sense and realistic view of situation trying to over complicate it.
It’s actually quite simple.
Lots of cops swamping the streets within half mile, zero tolerance policy to deal with aggression and groups of pissed up gobshites. Make it clear of this policy so that anyone who wishes to risk taking them on spend the night in the cells, miss the game and risk a banning order. Act like a twat, get what you deserve.

Difficult to argue with much of that but Durham Police on Derby day in September were led to believe by some shiny arse knob that the trams were full of hardcore hooligans. Deliberately. As I said earlier, those on the frontline have the hard job while some twat in a dress uniform who carries a pen rather than a baton, gets a photo on the front page patting himself on the back with no comeback for lying through their teeth.

What exactly do they think people will be taking in, rocket launchers
During this game, three flares were aimed from the South Stand at the Sheffield Wednesday fans who occupied both tiers of the Bramall Lane end. The first flew high over the roof of the Bramall Lane upper tier. The second hit the penalty area where Owls’ keeper Kevin Pressman gave possibly the first instance of a ‘bouncing pig’. The third hit the Wednesday fans in the Bramall Lane upper tier. Report.
The coppers I know are bigger idiots and like a ruck more than anyone I know who goes to the football.
That's the real problem.
..
You mean there's no lube involved?
heard a rumour that booze in the ground was banned. would be a classic SYP decision if so as that certainly won't tempt many who fancy a pre match drink after work to get in early.I think McCabe has told them to say that so he gets a load of money from booze and pies

I'd hasten to add to this to plod on the door probably aren't the blokes who's made the decisions, so don't treat them as such
thanks LJIt is banned for away fans
Delay the kick off, fuck sky. It was good enough in 2002/03 i think, when brownie scored
"I was only following orders"
"I don't make the rules, i just enforce them"
Any police officer that abuses the rights of law abiding citizens (regardless of who told them to do what) deserves what they get, in my book.
What on earth are they expecting?! This is a football match that's going off tonight isn't it?

In cases of violence or moral conduct I agree wholeheartedly.
In cases we are due to see most often at football, e.g road closures, searches, etc, the "them and us" view isn't needed.
That's what time SYP kindly ask that we all take our seats. 6:45pm at the absolute latest.
I don't really 'look forward' to derby games, but this lot really know how to put a fucking downer on the whole event.
An hour before kick off? Fuck off.

Additionally, they are planning to keep Wednesday fans in the ground "for around 10 minutes" after the final whistle.
