September 18, 1968, a great United player made his debut for us in a 1-1 draw at Hull City.

I can't think that anyone who saw Dave Powell play for United would have anything but fond memories of a terrific defender, fast, courageous and whole-hearted, who gave us great service for the all too short time he was with us before injury brought his career to a premature end.

He'd still walk into my all-time Blades Eleven.

A great exponent of the “cement tackle”

A pleasure to have seen him. Joe Shaw and Paul Mcgrath get the centre back berths in my all time team but David Powell would have been on the subs bench. You just don't see tackling like that anymore, a great reader of the game sweeping up behind the centre half. Only injuries prevented him from being a regular in the Blades and Welsh sides.
