Got to say, I agree with Mic on this (didn't know you were going to this one Mic, could've got my pint out of you from last season)
The atmosphere on Sat was brilliant, never been to Elland Road before and with the talk of 30k plus before the match I expected a really loud home support... but what a joke the Leeds fans were.
Apart from a small time just before and just after halftime the singing was loud and we were United. It really gave me hope that we can pull together.
ANd yes, "Sheffield Wednesday's fooked it up again" was perfectly timed and how long did it go on for? Brilliant!
Couple of issues though:
I was on the lower tier in the corner, so was within ear shot of the banter between fans. Of course it wasn't just good natured fun, but it was the Leeds fans that were getting overly excited with the Blades, yet the Police were constantly filming the Blades, getting good video footage of everyone. Back to the good old days of every fan is a hooligan.
There were two lads just behind me with shirts off, singing and dancing, no bother being caused from what I could see. Yet midway through the first half, the Head of the "Response Team" (aka thugs) sent his boys in and took them down to the concourse. It seemed to be just singling out those enjoying themselves. I watched Chief thug in his cheap black suit and leeds tie throughout and he seemed to be getting his thugs to push people about.
When we hit the bar, one blade ran onto the pitch. Pretty stupid but hey he must be from the wrong end of the gene pool. Anyway, Chief thug's boys all 4 of them dealt with him until the Police could leap on him and cuff him. Hardly fair treatment.
Then at the final whistle a Blade in an anorak who the Police had been eager to wind up all game finally got lifted. Of course there was the usual handbags and pointing from both sides, but this lad whom the police had been on top of all game, shoving their camera in his face finally got dragged down the steps to pitch side, where by 5 coppers/ stewards used what they perhaps consider "reasonable force" to place him under arrest.
A few people mentioned this to the coppers at the top of the concourse steps as we walked out and we got reminded to grow up. I reminded them that if you poke a dog with a stick and it bites, don't be surprised. I was told I would be arrested if I didn't move along.
I'm not saying Blades fans were angels, but didn't merit the treatment that the Police dished out
Finally, I counted 5 Leeds fans who were Raoul Moat lookalikes!
Good day, Bad result, Horrible ground, Nasty Fans, Bullying Police, Response team Thugs we were glad to get back to Sheff and get a decent beer or two in
