This season, the Category 2 Academy fixture schedule has twenty teams competing in the relevant Professional Development Leagues. Split ten teams in the North Group (including Sheffield United), and ten in the South.
Burnley, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town have all been reclassified as Category 1 Academies this season. They will play in the Premier League 2 schedule. There are now 29 Category 1 Academies.
Huddersfield Town have moved up into Category 2, Professional Development League, for this season. The PDL has "lost" three clubs to the higher level, and "gained" one club from the lower level.
PDL will be a 28 game regular season, home AND away against your group rivals, and one game home OR away against the clubs from the other region.
Only the U18 PDL fixtures are released at the moment.
The Carrier Bag Firm were circulating a rumour last season that our U21s may be playing games at the Coach & Horse, home of Sheffield FC. The latest rumour is that will NOT happen. And we can expect U21 games to be scheduled at Bramall Lane (as required) and York City.
