New to here but love catching up with Blades news from afar. 81/82 was my first year watching the Blades and I thought all was rosy - 96 points, didn't see us lose all season and won the league with a hatful of goals from King Keith (allbeit div 4). Besides the great times under Bassett and a few decent Warnock years the 36 years since have been largely dissapointing.

Feeling very confident that CW is going to deliver out first league title since. While I now live in Brisbane and won't get to see it first hand the passion has certainly been reignited. Hoping to get back in September and get to a game or 2...in the Championship all being well. UTB

Still have happy memories of that division 4 season which was the club making up for the shambles that was the season before (shudder).

I loved watching the Blades all over the country that season and went to most games with the old man. He loved that season too.

Trying to think if i saw all the 4 x defeats that season. I know I saw 3 at least (Hull City with Edwards scoring the winner for them, Stockport on a Tuesday night, and Scunnie away with fat lass in white being Scunnie top hooligan boy) but can't remember the other one. Maybe I missed that one. Fantastic wins that season and I loved the 4 nil wins home and away versus Peterborough. Hopefully our kids will look back 35 years from now and remember United winning something this season too.

And a warm welcome to you. Would love to be in Brisbane today, but not if I had to trade Brisbane for being able to watch this Blades side this season !

Watch out for the, ahem, "sharks" :)

We lost to colchester 5-2 in that wind ruined match ,some strange goals scored that day ( on match of the day ).
Northampton away was also a strange game as they played us off the pitch for most of the game ,but we still came out 2-1 winners,Mike Trusson got the winner if my memory serves me right (Silent ?) .ironically we beat them 7-3 at the lane on a very heavy pitch there back 4 were strung out like sheets on a washing line.

Ah yes. Colchester away and Waughs nightmare game. We got our arses handed to us on a plate that day and remember we was 3 down before we had taken off our tracksuit tops.

Didnt we score with a Kenworthy penalty and a Edwards late consolation? I know we played in Colchester's away kit that day.

Yep. We did.
I was at the Col U game and the Hull game.

The Northampton 7-3 game at the Lane. Was on a Tuesday night if I recall right and it pissed it down all night. Didn't we go in 6 nil up at half time or something and 'lost' the second half 3-1 and thus Utd managed to get booed off after scoring 7!!!

Now you're here just remember one thing ....... don't mention anything at all Blades related and you'll be just fine .

Welcome aboard :D

Remember the first game if the season, think it was Mansfield? We went 2-0 up very quickly and I thought we were going to breeze through the season - then we let them back into it and it finished 2 all. It was probably the wake up call that they needed and the season was great after that, culminating in that wonderful 'home game' at Darlington. We even had a song for our Chairman, Reg Brearley, back then!

Think it was 5-0 at half time, but we should have been leading by more.
Northampton were shockingly poor and didn't seem interested.
Many Blades knew we had a great chance of scoring 10 or even going for our record win.

I think we scored very early in the 2nd half to make it 6-0, the chance to hit double figures was still on. Then we took the foot off the pedal and sat back. Northampton came back into the game.
6-1, then 6-2, then amazingly 6-3 and the crowd were booing loudly all round the stadium.
Then we scored a late goal to make it 7-3.

Coming out of the ground there was a strange feeling of dissapointment.
We won 7-3 but had such a great chance to win by at least 10-0 and create some history.

In fairness to the players the pitch might have played a part. It rained all day but just before half-time there was a 10 minute monsoon like downpour, with puddles forming all over the pitch.

It did cross my mind that it would be typical for United to be winning 8-0 mid way through the second half then the ref stopping the match due to rain.

Hereford I think rather than Mansfield

3-0 up at half time but 6-0 before the hour mark. We totally took our foot off the gas and if there's one thing Blades fan won't stand for its lack of effort hence the booing. Edwards made it 7-2 in the 89th min but they got a third in the 90th. With half an hour left at 6-0 I genuinely thought we were going to hit double figures

Was my first ever game...Steve Neville scored one I think, can't remember the other though
Neville after 35 seconds. (Quickest goal on the opening day) then John Matthews. Another game in which we strolled about 2nd half thinking it would be a piece of cake

Missed the Neville goal as our lift was at wedding. We left the wedding do and made it to the game very quickly and it was during a time when there were road works on the M1/M18 link so went via Wickersley etc.
The Stockport game and Hull were both matches we went to.
